are you going on a summer holiday?

with who? and to where?

I am unsure what I'm doing, alot of friends are going inter-railing but I'm too lazy to lug bags around Europe and fight with people and sweat like a bodybuilder, I actually want the traditional holiday whereby I enjoy myself and laze around. I may even go somewhere on my own as a wild experiment. Places I have thought of, Berlin (maybe), Ibiza (too expensive and I wouldn't go on my own), New York (also expensive). And my other idea was to rent a cruiser and go on some rivers in Ireland but that's cheap enough that I could do it along with something else. It's a very weather dependent one though.

So where are you going?

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:19 (twenty-three years ago)

The only thing I've got planned so far is a cousin's wedding in Utah, in June (no, she's not Mormon).

hstencil, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:26 (twenty-three years ago)

not this year, but the wife and I have decided to go to London next summer.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I've decided I have to go to the UK this year, but prolly not 'till the fall.

hstencil, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I am off to Denmark for a week at the end of April and will probably take myself off somewhere sunny for a week before the end of June. In August my friend, the Jza, and I plan to attempt to get to Asia together again. We failed horribly last year as he lost his job and I went with another boy...

I also plan to fit in several trips to Scotland and England and the obligatory Glastonbury weekend.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:28 (twenty-three years ago)

No. I'm going on a Spring holiday and then my honeymoon's in November. I will have a weekend in Barcelona in Summer too though, probably.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:28 (twenty-three years ago)

seeing as how the war is now on, the question is whether there'll be anywhere left to go come summer (if indeed summer comes at all).

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Which reminds me, I have been contemplating availing of one of those cheap flights to New York in the next couple of weeks.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:31 (twenty-three years ago)

American's got $249 JFK ---> Heathrow for next weekend. Prolly the same coming over, too.

hstencil, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

It depends on whether I need surgery or not, which I will find out tomorrow.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Money permitting, I'm hoping to do two... one proper lie around in the sun and get drunk and do sod all holiday (god knows where) and one big exciting city trip (hopefully New York, Prague or Barcelona). I'm going to Glasto as well, but I don't consider that a holiday any more, I consider it a necessity.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Money permitting SONARin june combined with some cooking and carousing in the laguedoc. August Catering for 80 people for two weeks in North Yorks.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I need to get the hell out of NYC. I'll go anywhere. Newark! White Plains! Argh!!

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I need a cheap flight ex-Dublin.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Btw, Nicole? Good luck...

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I may go to Vancouver in late May but don't think money will allow me to book a ticket early enough to get a reasonable price.
Otherwise my work has air conditioning and my apartment doesn't so boo to summertime in my apartment.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I've got lots of weekends away - hen night, wedding and commitment ceremony, all in Edinburgh/Linlithgow.

Up until last year I was too much of a snob to take up my parents offer of using their caravan that's at a site near St Quentin, but last year finances meant I was desperate, and I realised what a fool I was for not using it before. So Chris and I are going again this July, to gorge on french food, and drink cheap independently produced champagne, and relax, all for the price of a Sea France ferry.

I'm always in awe of people who go off adventuring on their own. I could never do it, but I wish I could.

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Immigration paperwork permitting - it's now two weeks until my visa interview - I'll be moving to Northern California this summer. I consider that a kind of long term holiday, of a kind. Also going on honeymoon in September, hopefully.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, hope things go well, Nicole. *good thoughts*

I've decided I have to go to the UK this year, but prolly not 'till the fall.

Go for Tom's pre-wedding bash in October. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:50 (twenty-three years ago)

That reminds me, I better get my passport before I have a need to go stateside again. I've been checked for bombs 3 times in the past year (twice at Logan) and almost didn't make it through once cause my birth certificate is really chewed up. Customs on the otherhand has been a breeze (never longer then 30 seconds).

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Perhaps, Ned. At this point, tho, I can't plan a week in advance, much less months.

hstencil, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Not allowed to take time off in July or August. Or September in fact. At least I have a beach to laze on right here...

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Greece. An island. 25 kilos of books.

Skottie, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm really hoping for a long road trip, like maybe to Alaska.

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Going to Spain for a couple weeks around June/July

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I might go to the artic circle or Moominland.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:13 (twenty-three years ago)

That is so weird! I was researching Moomintrolls this morning - official bank business y'know.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going on Tuesday. OK, not quite summer, but it is a whole week off work, to Spain (Costa del Sol) to visit my parents. I think Barcelona is a possibility later this year. We went on our honeymoon except I got shingles and spent most of the week in bed

[insert Dan Perry comment here]

ON MY OWN!!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually I'm going to Moncton, Nova Scotia in July for a wedding. And to see my Gram in Yarmouth. I will drink.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Moncton, New Brunswick or is there one of those in NS too?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know...maybe I'm confused which is probably the case.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Moncton is in New Brunswick, as I've mentioned before I spent 5 years just one Tim Horton's south of there.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:37 (twenty-three years ago)

yup, Im an idiot. Maybe it isn't Moncton where I'm going because apparently it close to my Gram in Yarmouth...hmmm.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Well its about 5 hours away I guess, Moncton is 30 minutes north of Nova Scotia. You could take the ferry to Digby or just go through Truro and Windsor and the Valley or probably the more logical route through Halifax. Its all about the same distance I guess.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm (probably) going to Minnesota to drink for a week.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:46 (twenty-three years ago)

You must really like 3.2 beer.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:49 (twenty-three years ago)

no holiday.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Ferry to Digby would be the logical rte. seeing as yarmouth is right there. I like Yarmouth, haven't been there since I was 16...all my family is there. Should be a good time.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually suzy, if you drink enough of it, it doesn't matter.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually might be there during State Fair time. 4H fashion show, here I come.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:58 (twenty-three years ago)

fried cheese on a stick

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Greased hogs!

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i grease my hog every night...goodnight.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Andalucia is looking increasingly likely.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd *love* to go on holiday somewhere. Open to offers. Although I've had breaks of several days -- staying at friends or whatever -- quite a few times, I haven't been on a real holiday since I was a kid, i.e. 20+ years ago. *sigh*

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Andalucia is nice but have you considered Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Ed, going to Andalucia for a specific reason. Will likely tool around, though!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:08 (twenty-three years ago)

fair enough. I love the north coast of spain with a passion.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:09 (twenty-three years ago)

noted.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't even imagine getting enough money together for a holiday until I can sell this house and get somewhere a bit cheaper. That is some way off, so no summer holiday for me.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:49 (twenty-three years ago)

but I know for sure some fisherman would turn up with wellingtons and a bag of pills and I'd wake up at 6 the next day, remembering little

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

From Plaice 2 Bass '04 (this is the reeeemix!)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Matt, if you need a place to stay....

smee (smee), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh, thanks for the offer but I will be staying at a mate's house in Andalucia (and being cooked magnificent feasts every day if last time is anything to go by).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
sónar festival, barcelona. that's all this year. th rest of the summer, you'll find me bitching over my MA final paper.

Jay Kid (Jay K), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I am considering going to London in July or August. Maybe there will also be some sort of festival action? One of my two best friends from college lives there and the other will be working there at the time. My sister recently returned and now is talking about moving there. I have not been substantially outside the U.S. since I was 5 years old. Despite all of this, I wonder why I'd want to visit another city, even such a major one, when I live in and haven't exactly exhausted NYC.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going for an extended weekend to Berlin at the end of August with my friend Claire who was at my FAP with her sleepy boyfriend.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

yippie i think i might be going to new yaarrrk in june!

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

"are you going on a summer holiday?"
"yeah fuck u 2!"

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr Pumpkin and I are going abroad together for the first time. Flying to Tenerife on the 23rd of June at 1450 hours and I'm so excited I'm going to moisten my panties! Ooh ooh ooh!

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

You are such a minger.

smee (smee), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm thinking about interrailing around Europe and will be looking in the archives for advice presently.

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

But I'm so EXCITED! Can't wait to go up in an airy with my honey bun. We'll be the biggest kids on board. Was looking at the menu on Britannia flights - no more crackers, cheese and diced sausage by the way, they now serve "Chicken in a wild mushroom sauce" Pity I don't like mushrooms. But I'll eat it.

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Mind you, I doubt I'll be doing it properly - I'll just be calling up friends on the continent and asking to stay.

Ronan, fancy doing any Euro dance festivals?

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Caracas in mid-July. Should the flag of red (or non-red) revolt be raised, I will esconce myself somewhere relaxed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Leaving to go the West Virginia tomorrow for a wedding, not really a vacation. I've rented a house on Martha's Vineyard again in September, I can't wait.

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

SONAR as well, in june. Plus hopefully I'll get a couple of days sight seeing in Pakistan next week.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm rounding out my lost year with a jaunt around western europe. highlights will include day one of the North Sea Jazz Festival, 'Total Konfusion' starring the Kompakt crew in Cologne, the Venice Biennale, the Guggenheim in Bilbao, and a week in Berlin, Paris, and London each.

or as my sister put it, "Bullshit. I fully expect to find you passportless in a Turkish prison. We'll come get you in a month."

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

highly unlikely due to continued poverty. although a holiday from the classroom is not to be discounted.

I haven't been out of TX in almost three years. This saddens me greatly.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm going to glastonbury and then to copenhagen for a few days before the roskilde festival...don't know what else i'll be doing, though!

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

probably not a real one lasting more than a couple of days. this is a busy, crazy summer.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Me & my son & my parents & my sisters are renting a beach house in Outer Banks in NC for a week. We leave the 28th of this month. I neeeeeeeeed to see the ocean again RIGHT NOW. I can't exactly afford it, but my parents were like "we'll buy you all the food and alcohol you could possibly want, just cook dinner every night". Which is no prob, considering I love to cook fresh seafood more than anything else that is fit for human consumption.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

18 days in Buenos Aires on my own, wahey! I've been getting excited looking at guidebooks and organising malaria tablets.
I want to go to Wales too, but that depends on whether I can persuade anyone to come with me.
I wish I could have everyone else's summer holidays too.

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

nickalicious, will your parents adopt me?

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to Dublin on my birthday, june the 14th, and staying for bloomsday...eating kidneys for the faint tang of urine, going to bella's brothel &c....

it just doesn't feel enough like a big holiday. and a little too early.

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I cannot wait for the smell of pine trees to hit me as I step off the plane into the hot sunshine of the south of France next Wednesday.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Outer Banks is probably where I really want to go this Summer

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

My birthday's also 14th June although i won't be doing anything for that.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

when i first read that sentence i thought you were going to jump out of a plane and get hit by a pine tree.

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

tee hee actually my parents have a habit of adopting people into our family, JBR; I have at least 6 honorary sisters.

I've also decided that, while my friends are wasting an asston of money having a shitty horrible time at Bonnaroo (June 18-20), I'm going to go to Louisville for LebowskiFest, wear a bathrobe and facial hair, drink white russians, bowl, etc. I will text message all of them with "u hippies r dumb & broke & sunburned".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

states i've been to so far in 2004 (not counting new york): new jersey, pennsylvania, delaware, california, oregon, and washington. (airport layovers in michigan and minnesota don't count, do they?)

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i've changed my mind about glastonbury & roskilde. i think my new plan is the oxegen festival, t in the park, and a few days in london in july, then london and benicassim in august. i still want to go deep-sea fishing in montauk, but that's a weekend trip.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Lauren, I want to go to Montauk, but not to deep sea fish. Maybe I can watch you from the shore?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

you can cheer me on, and then we can have margaritas on the shore.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Where on the Outer Banks, NZA?

I don't know what I'll be doing this summer--my aunt and uncle who used to rent an Outer Banks beach house every year just bought a house in a Georgia beach resort for their retirement. And then my mother, who is looking into where she's going to retire, talked about renting a house in one of the Delaware beach communities as part of her investigations.

What I want to do is go up to New York (if that Firewater concert in May actually happens), and perhaps to London (although that would probably be nicer in the fall).

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Barima, you never know! Definitely keep it in mind for when I am working and have money.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I might be going to TO this summer; we've talked about vacationing in a couple of other places in the fall but nothing definite yet.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I might go to Stonehenge, just for a daytrip mind.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool, Ro! Oxygen also seems alright, but how will I do festivals, Eurorail and lots of shopping without ending up horribly broke?

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I so wanna go to Benicassim, if I can. That'd make three out-of-country trips to Spain in a row, though.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

party villa. that's all i'm sayin'.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

heh, do they sell those beer ball thingys in Spain?

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Spain is on my hypothetical Eurorail intinerary! I have a buddy in Madrid I'm hoping to stay with.

Barima (Barima), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

D'oh! Not Outer Banks, I meant Ocean Isle.

Man, I would love to live in a place where Stonehenge was a mere day trip away.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I have one essay to do tomorrow morning and then.............................................FOUR MONTHS OFF.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan, you magnificent bastard.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

i think they have rioja balls in spain.

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I will get to drink tons of kochemillo (sp?) without anyone looking at me funny.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I will theoretically spend in early July two weeks in Los Angeles (for my high school reunion) and then leave my job come early August, thus extending indefinitely the summer fun.

Baaderoni (Fabfunk), Thursday, 13 May 2004 06:18 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe a couple of weekends off in Tuscany, and if we manage to escape the office while preparing our festival in september, a week on some beach in Sicily.
not that you can do much when your tummy is getting bigger by the day...
