Story idea: what if there was a group of American citizens who took back the power?

This is a strange idea, sort of Fight Clubby, I guess, but I thought of it the other day on the subway. What if a group of [I guess you would call them] "terrorists" residing in America ("American citizens for political change" might be a better term?) joined the military, police and other such organizations in a large and secret organized plan and on a specified date, they shot dead the heads of the organizations and blew up the compounds, effectively destroying the country's means of controlling the people by force?

Wouldn't that be wild? And wildly frightening? To get such large numbers of people to cooperate with such a subversive plan would obviously mean the world had come to the most utterly hopeless lowpoint, like a global Nazi party or something, so it's a little farfetched, but I thought it was sort of a compelling idea that I could easily continue fantasizing about. It seems that the story would almost write itself.

Now, if anyone intends to use this idea, I wouldn't mind a meager sum of money to cover a few expenses. If you sell movie rights and become a millionaire, please help me pay off my college loans. That would be great.

The only way this would actually be interesting is if the "terrorists" were treated as the good guys, but this wouldn't happen in Hollywood in 2003.

"The Place of Dead Roads" and "Cities of the Red Night" by William Burroughs are quite close to that idea, except they're about retroactive takeovers.

If your movie is based on a government of robots and computers people will totally be down, 'cause for some reason people are afeared to death of the idea of technology-as-governing-apparatus. Which I find totally hilarious.

Oh, Nick, you're going to steal my idea and make millions and you know it!

Scaredy Cat, Thursday, 20 March 2003 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

it's called "the turner diaries" usually

Took back the power from whom? Who lost the power in the first place?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 20 March 2003 14:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I guess in a society that was ruled by like a global Nazi type power, it would be the people who are taking back the power from the other people.

I've never read any of the books mentioned above, but I'll have to look into them!

HELLO ECHELON! HELLO CARNIVORE!

hstencil, Thursday, 20 March 2003 14:27 (twenty-three years ago)

These are just story ideas, Echelon and Carnivore. This ain't the beginnings of some revolution. Go back to finding the real terrorists. Thank you.

Go back to finding the real terrorists.

Heh, well I know where one's hiding in Washington.

Nickalicious is just talking about The Matrix and has won no prizes today.

I hadn't even thought about that Ally! Ha ha!

I actually said that 'cause I just last night started writing a story about a fictional Right Now where there's a global computer-run actual-democracy with NO human politician-representatives corrupting it and everyone votes from their home on things and it's split up into world/national/state/local levels and everything is all based on renewable energy sources and blah blah whoop whoop total Bucky Fuller style utopia.
