Friday or Saturday night party style

feel in need of a big night this weekend, so whats on people?

options mooted so far:

fabric (but that seems to suck fun out of everything)
93ft east (lucy says may be a bit too downbeat)
turnmills (hardhouse, but could be fun all the same)
mass (dont know anything about this)

so, make alternative suggestions! or perhaps you think one of these is the best option. there must be something a bit better on maybe, its a bit of a fallow weekend by the looks of it

and, what you up to this weekend?

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 27 March 2003 12:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Last weekend was all birthday birthday birthday and I've got a wedding and a holiday coming up so this weekend is going to be quiet and spent loafing around with Isabel watching videos and driving to the seaside, I hope.

Wouldn't mind a handful of beers on Friday, I shall see what comes up.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 27 March 2003 12:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Friday night I'm going to some gently wibbling dronerock with Saloon and the Projects at the Water Rats. Not exactly a Big Night Out, but I will enjoy it.

Saturday night, my mate Emma is having a Tube Station Party. I am going to try my darndest to bring SAB to this. :-) So this will be a Big Night Out for me, or, indeed, hopefully a Big Night In afterwards. ;-)

(Oh god, STOP me! I'm getting all rampant! What is wrong with me?)

kate, Thursday, 27 March 2003 12:39 (twenty-three years ago)

buttoned down disco? ;)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 27 March 2003 12:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to a big lez-up tomorrow night in honour of a friend who is moving to Liverpool on Saturday, and then looking after visitors for the rest of the weekend, so I'm probably out of all of this.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 27 March 2003 12:41 (twenty-three years ago)

saturday after next is Uncle Bob's Wedding Reception at Water Rats which is an alright place to go if you fancy just getting lashed and dancing to Suede, Slade and Strawberry Switchblade - it even got in the top 5 nights out in The Guide last month

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 27 March 2003 12:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Steve - Bob's has been k-rub recently as they appear to be phasing out the airings of I Like To Move It Move It and Lets Get Ready To Rumble and replacing it with boring old 70s rock and so forth. Boo!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 27 March 2003 12:43 (twenty-three years ago)

having a Tube Station Party

as in hiring out Aldwych tube station?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 27 March 2003 12:43 (twenty-three years ago)

i want to give BDD another try but i dunno if its got better since we went last

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 27 March 2003 12:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Friday = quiet night in with playstation
Saturday = drinking in town with chums, although I haven't heard much about whether it's still on
Sunday = eating fine food and drinking good beer with chums.

In other words, a relatively quiet one before the maelstrom of ATP next weekend.

chris (chris), Thursday, 27 March 2003 12:45 (twenty-three years ago)

No, as in, it's a costume party where you have to come dressed as your favourite tube station. I mean, invariably someone comes up with something really rub for, like Cockfosters, and four girls come as All Saints, but there are some really clever ones sometimes. It's just the sort of esoteric banal transport thing that I would think would really appeal to Gareth.

kate, Thursday, 27 March 2003 12:46 (twenty-three years ago)

its a great idea, and soooo London, heh

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 27 March 2003 12:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm gutted to be missing this!

A good cheat: look at Simon Patterson's artwork The Great Bear (Tube stations are replaced by Names, darling, names; Great Portland Street is Jean-Paul Sartre for example) and go as the person named for the station you like. I'd go as Audrey Hepburn = Belsize Park.

Or Kate could always be Farringdon and go as a side of beef. Better than going as Chancery Lane dressed as...a chancer, oopsie I mean a lawyer.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 27 March 2003 12:57 (twenty-three years ago)

leo smith w. e parker, j spaceman etc. at conway hall on saturday. improv meets dirty dronerock yum yum! ;-)

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 27 March 2003 12:58 (twenty-three years ago)

can't fucking wait to see e.parker. why can't saturday be today?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 27 March 2003 13:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Because I've got an Appliance gig and a Saloon gig between then and now!

However, if I *do* get to see the Guild Of Handsome Young Soundartists on Saturday... yes! yes! Why can't it be Saturday *now*?!?!?

kate, Thursday, 27 March 2003 13:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I have birthday party saturday.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 27 March 2003 13:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Not so sure yet, Friday probably drink some beers at my house and then go to the local and chat to some locals. Saturday I was thinking of taking a night of getting mashed and staying out all night but who knows whether I'll change my mind or not, Ian Pooley is playing but I'm not sure how into it I am. I am going to see the Hacker next week so might save my cash money for then.

Sunday probably play PS2 all day, I'm addicted to the thing. I like Matt's commandeering of the phrase "lez up" in place of the more commonly used phrase "informal shindig".

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 27 March 2003 13:16 (twenty-three years ago)

that's taking a night OFF not of, well we'll see eh

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 27 March 2003 13:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I am going to record some songs and go to the cinema a couple of times. I am off tomorrow.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 27 March 2003 13:31 (twenty-three years ago)

we cant decide what to do! maybe i should buy time out or something

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 27 March 2003 16:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Fondue party's the obvious choice, gareth!

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 27 March 2003 16:50 (twenty-three years ago)

i'll have a look in time out when i get home if you want gareth and let you know if there's anything that sounds exciting. sadly i am away this weekend (grandfather's 80th birthday party, grrr) and am also ill again (cough cough etc), so it's looking like being my least fun weekend in ages :-(

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 27 March 2003 16:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Friday night: birthday party for my friend Kate (no not our kate).

Saturday night: Sightings/Kevin Drumm/et al in LIC, QNS.

hstencil, Thursday, 27 March 2003 16:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm excited about not having plans for once.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 27 March 2003 17:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Gareth, go on and try Turnmills: if you're with a good crowd, even the house music shouldn't matter much.

As for me, I'm part of this (apparently) large L.A. FAP on Sunday that Ned's bringing me along to. [The location is still up in the air, though.]

Saturday: a dash of fun gardening, and perhaps a museum outing, afterward.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Thursday, 27 March 2003 18:14 (twenty-three years ago)

stencil- have fun on sat night. kevin druum sounds grebt.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 27 March 2003 21:06 (twenty-three years ago)

he's cute, too.

hstencil, Thursday, 27 March 2003 21:39 (twenty-three years ago)

even better!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 27 March 2003 21:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Meeting my pal SW on Saturday afternoon, prior to the Leo Smith gig, which we are both well up for too!

On Sunday I am working boo boo

Andrew L (Andrew L), Thursday, 27 March 2003 22:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Julio - in actuality, he's a friend of mine, and I haven't seen him since I left Chicago, so I'm really looking forward to hanging out.

Plus, he is cute.

hstencil, Thursday, 27 March 2003 22:08 (twenty-three years ago)

anyone know what is on at herbal tonite?

or the fortress? er, what is the fortress anyway? people are mooting it as a suggestion but i dont know what it is?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 28 March 2003 15:20 (twenty-three years ago)

whatever you do you should wear your new tie

Mary (Mary), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Tonight (and today, since I called in sick): stay home, take it easy, try to catch up on sleep, try to shake off whatever is wrong with my sinuses (but if this is just spring allergies, I may be in for serious trouble for the next few months or so), do some laundry, hopefully read something besides ILM and web based news sites. Tomorrow: go out dancing probably with SO and a couple of my (female) friends. The little arts center I had planned on taking my SO to, because it has a mix of ballroom and Latin, does not have a party tomorrow night, so we will probably end up going to a Latin night at a club. Or, alternately, we could go see the Sun Ra Arkestra perform. Sunday: recover from staying up way too late the night before.

Rockist Scientist, Friday, 28 March 2003 18:19 (twenty-three years ago)

how was school disco gareth?

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 29 March 2003 04:54 (twenty-three years ago)

stop it you.

friday, went to bricklayers arms for supplies and a couple drinks first, then went off to herbal, first time i have been, its ok, downstairs was house, upstiars sort of a mix of house and hip hop, nothing amazing but there were quite a lot of people out so it was good.

that closed at 3ish so we went to fortress, which is the warehouse thing that the warp christmas thing was on at the other year, i didnt realise its on every week, music was much better here, kind of dave angel style techno, quite a good feel about the place too. lucy started getting a bit panicky/claustrophobic about 6ish though, so me and charlotte went home with her, and i stayed round till about 830, walked home and went on aim for about an hour or smoething, i have absolutely no recollection of whaqt i said on aim at all. hmm:/

saturday, i felt the pain:(

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 30 March 2003 09:57 (twenty-three years ago)

the gig was excellent for the most part. hurrah!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 30 March 2003 13:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Last night was a birthday party for a friend and all was great...except for the huge allergy attack I suffered. I wondered, and then I realized and asked the host, "Do you have any cats here?" I spent an hour and a half on the patio waiting for my ability to breathe to return.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 30 March 2003 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Mine was grebt - friends over, record shopping, hugely unhealthy food, pints by the river, lacklustre England match, tiny gig, noisy punk r0x0r, gatecrashing art student parties, more hugely unhealthy food, Sunday afternoon lounging in the sun reading the paper and then off to the parents to play the dutiful son on Mother's Day, and not feeling like a walking zombie for any of it.

More weekends should be like this.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 30 March 2003 16:54 (twenty-three years ago)

i totally forget Mothers Day and have done pretty much sod all this weekend

bad, sad mang :(
