Your favorite outfit !

i'll spend weeks sort of slumping around in random ill-fitting shirts, lumpyheaded and de-personalized, and then suddenly i remember something... and i put it on. and i feel whole, for a moment, boots in a slush puddle with the sun in my face.

your favorite outfit- when you find it, do you make it yr skin and wear it till it falls apart? (there is honor in this). my ex-gf had a dress in highschool, a red 60's dress with white dots. short, but with long sleeves. she wore it fiercely.

alternately, there is the conception of the favorite outfit as a sort of ritual, sacred garment- worn once on that holy morning, to wear it again would be to break a spell...er something.

so whats yours? RAMPANT DANDYISM IS ENCOURAGED. as is unspeakable sexiness. and PHOTOGRAPHS!!!!

mine: black suit coat (shiny lapels) over blueandgray vertically striped shirt, gray pants with nice blue cloth belt with a little horse and korean characters on the buckle, and my now deceased blue New Balances. oh and blak socks.

ahem:
hmm i cant post it directly oops

I change my mind every few weeks. Sigh. At the moment it is a pair of brown suede trousers that are so soft and comfortable and make me feel very rowwwrrrr sexy coz they are suede and all, with a blue and gold paisley shirt. Hopefully I will have pictures at some point, because I wore them at the Shepherds Bush Empire, and I know *someone* has to have taken pictures of that...

kate, Friday, 28 March 2003 11:01 (twenty-three years ago)

a couple weeks ago i came up with an outfit that was the perfect combination of indie-cute and hoxton-stupid: low-slung faded levis tucked into scarlet moonboots, cream yoko nakamura (i know that is completely wrong but i can never remember that name) t-shirt, big harley davidson belt, bright red duffel coat, and big old rockstar shades. it was a very "up" outfit, and made me feel happy (and dandy!)

jeanne picot (jeanne picot), Friday, 28 March 2003 11:50 (twenty-three years ago)

my fave outfit is my cropped leather jacket(not a biker one...like... different), tight levi's, my yellow SURVIVORS NEVER SAY DIE shirt, camo cons and my red and navy blue scarf.
Question: what y'all think of wearing jeans and a jean jacket? I was doin that last year at round this time, and I found myself doing it again this year... is this horrible?

kissmyfist (kissmyfist), Friday, 28 March 2003 12:24 (twenty-three years ago)

my fave outfit is a karen walker t-shirt that's pale blue w/ a bleeding bishop chess piece on it (st sabestian inspired) dark blue workshop drill pants w/ camper boots or old old pumas (even tho they're old). a jacket i bought in japan. a rainbow scarf. none of this will mean anything to non-nzers, and they'll think it is suck.

Clare (not entirely unhappy), Friday, 28 March 2003 13:17 (twenty-three years ago)

my birthday suit.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 28 March 2003 13:19 (twenty-three years ago)

is a karen walker!!

i will speak these words aloud all day. i have no idea.

what y'all think of wearing jeans and a jean jacket? I was doin that last year at round this time, and I found myself doing it again this year... is this horrible?

My gf's boss refers to this look as "full metal jacket" when I show up to fetch her sporting it.

Benjamin, Friday, 28 March 2003 15:11 (twenty-three years ago)

http://www.dirty.org/~minna/images/outfit-new.jpg
i have worn it for three days in a row now

minna (minna), Friday, 28 March 2003 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

haha i knew that was going to be minna!

gareth (gareth), Friday, 28 March 2003 15:19 (twenty-three years ago)

cuuute. minna wins for posting a picture.

i like the balls of yarn sewn to yr sweater.

gabriel (gabe), Friday, 28 March 2003 15:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Really depends on my mood so much. I had a power meeting scheduled for yesterday, so I wore a crisp white oxford shirt with Cynthia Steffe pinstriped slacks and pointy Gucci boots. Today--a little more casual but I still want to feel chic so it's the stripey Kenneth Cole sweater, Seven Jeans, and the boots again. Weekend will be slouchy band shirts and dad's levis. (note: this completely exhausts my supply of designer clothes splurges.)

Usually I have the most fun when I wear something goofygoth...big black tulle skirt with silly stockings and a band shirt.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 28 March 2003 15:35 (twenty-three years ago)

haha i made myself look tall and long legged with cool hair! which i um am.
i'm afraid there is no fluff on the real jumper, it is very flat mottled black and brown print on a grey marl windcheater material background (but the cuffs and collar are wooly). i love it because it reminds me of the ugly carpet we had in our house when i was a kid.
another inaccuracy: my real necklace is bright bright fluoro pink/orange but the magenta in the picture is probably nicer

minna (minna), Friday, 28 March 2003 15:36 (twenty-three years ago)

oh and like "my brown..." could have been anyone else!

minna (minna), Friday, 28 March 2003 15:36 (twenty-three years ago)

For once, I don't have a favorite outfit. I usually have a favorite shirt. I wear it until it has so many holes that it becomes too obscene to wear in public. Then I just wear it to bed. And I always have a favorite pair of jeans. Right now it's the ultra-tight Levi's I'm wearing today.

I'm excited about the warm weather because I love wearing flippy skirts with my converses.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I like my Kenneth Cole beatle boots
Vertical Stripey Banana Repub shirt (untucked)
Gray Banana Slacks
Argyle socks

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I always have favorite panties too. Right now they are pink and have little satiny pink polka dots on them and see-through ruffley pink lace around the edges.

And favorite socks! Current favorite: white socks with pastel argyle print.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:51 (twenty-three years ago)

"flippy skirts with converse"
rawr!!!1!#@!

gabriel (gabe), Friday, 28 March 2003 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I used to have this black cradigan that I would wear everyday, it was full of holes. And I like my haiwaian shirts but they seem to have shrunk.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Depends on the weather, obviously, but I do love my:

stretch low-rise Italian jeans
Purple Victoria's Secret camisole top
massive black leather belt (with silver holes)
Black linen/leather Perry Ellis boots (that finally fell apart, I was wearing them so often)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:28 (twenty-three years ago)

my clothing situation sucks so bad right now

i need someone to re-dress me

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:30 (twenty-three years ago)

My favorite outfit at the moment: greenish-blueish and black striped top with 3/4 sleeves, black A-line skirt, black fishnets, red highheels that have ZIPPERS on the side. I actually haven't worn this outfit yet, but i will tonight, maybe.

Mandee, Friday, 28 March 2003 17:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll do it for you Jess, but you'd have to trust my dress sense.

Mandee, what were you doing peeking in my closet?;>

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:35 (twenty-three years ago)

My new favourite item of clothing last night is a pair of GREY KNEE HIGH SOCKS from H&M. Whee.

I need to find a cool summer dress by June to go and see GHOST OF THE ROBOT (agrh nggg grrr also MUST LOSE WEIGHT).

Sarah (starry), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:38 (twenty-three years ago)

You are going to see Ghost of the Robot?!??! I am jealous.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:39 (twenty-three years ago)

My usual clothes sitch is just a hoodie away from totally emo.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I found something that seemed okay, and have stuck with it ever since: white trainers, white socks, black jeans, t-shirt (usually black), black leather biker style jacket.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 28 March 2003 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Black jeans
Dark silk shirt
Favorite V'sS bra
Favorite comfy panties
"I'm in charge so don't fuck with me" black leather boots

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Friday, 28 March 2003 20:45 (twenty-three years ago)

A black retro-ish Frankenstein suit (in that it's been cobbled together from bits of other suits, rather than actually depicting a monster) with a black tie and black shoes. The shirt doesn't matter so much. It's often not black.

Ferg (Ferg), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Dark Navy (virtually black) Pinstripe (very light) suit with hot pink button down shirt and low zipper boots.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm gonna miss winter. When the weather's cold I can wear black tights, a black sweater, and a gray or camel skirt and 98% of the time be the best-dressed person in the room. (Yes, DC is that dowdy.)

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Dark Navy (virtually black) Pinstripe (very light) suit

Same suit, with medium-light-blue gingham (oh no! mixing patterns! oh no!) button down forward-point shirt and dress shoes.

But my hot pink shirt is close behind. :)

gabriel (gabe), Saturday, 29 March 2003 04:38 (twenty-three years ago)

ok, dudes, I cannot pick a favorite outfit. I have sat here thinking about this all day. I can't. Do you understand my clothing situation? I have one walk-in-ish closet that is completely overflowing, stuff falling out of shelves/folded on the floor type thing. I have an armoire with two drawers besides the armoire cabinet bit that is also overflowing. I have a chest of 6 drawers, also, which is overflowing. I also just have a bunch of clothes lying on my bed. I have a cabinet in the kitchen which I use for jackets and laundry, which is overflowing. My computer chair is covered in skirts/pants I have no hangers for. AND DESPITE ALL OF THIS I ALSO HAVE TWO FORTY LB BAGS OF LAUNDRY I NEED TO DO.

Also, I'm around $10k in debt, most of which was clothes.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 29 March 2003 05:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Is anyone familiar with the tale of Strega Nona? It's Italian folk story, she has a big pot that makes never ending spaghetti and her helper Anthony doesn't watch is right and it overflows and like destroys the town with spaghetti. That's my closet. I have Strega Nona's closet.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 29 March 2003 05:39 (twenty-three years ago)

basta basta!

minna (minna), Saturday, 29 March 2003 05:44 (twenty-three years ago)

classic aaron:
kenneth cole black leather shoes with white leather stripes.
black socks
faded hugo boss black jeans
white or black solid color tshirt or eggplant-purple antibalas tshirt
tan izod windbreaker that used to belong to grandfather and looks sorta 80s-ish
in the winter, remove windbreaker, add solid black or olive green sweater and a black full-length double-breasted wool coat.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Saturday, 29 March 2003 05:58 (twenty-three years ago)

black chucks or early 80s white leather nike lowtops with black swoosh (my greatest thrift score evar)
solid or print tees in primary colors
diesel jeans (they fit best)
various color socks, argyle when i'm feeling emo
apply black or navy hoodie, or old jc penney camelhair coat with faux fur trim as needed (and sub in dark wool slacks for cold)

Aaron A., Saturday, 29 March 2003 06:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I like my light grey agnes b wool pants with this dark blue pinstriped short-sleeve H&M shirt, with a rectangle-shaped skinny dark-purple Costume National tie, with an APC belt, and these black Paul Smith shoes that my friend gave me because he never wears them.

but also I like my Brooks Brothers argyle sweater with these brown Helmut Lang jeans that I think were supposed to be for women, and my brown & red Campers, that I think were supposed to be for women too...

phil-two (phil-two), Saturday, 29 March 2003 08:37 (twenty-three years ago)

girl clothes are way better than boys clothes, in general

gabriel (gabe), Saturday, 29 March 2003 22:47 (twenty-three years ago)

tee hee I'm glad I'm not the only one that obsessively catalogs my clothes.

teeny (teeny), Saturday, 29 March 2003 23:30 (twenty-three years ago)

YOU ARE ALL PATRICK BATEMAN AND I AM FRIGHTENED.

Ally (mlescaut), Sunday, 30 March 2003 01:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, catalogs is too strong a word. But pull out anything from my huge mountain of clothes and I can tell you when and where I bought it and how much it cost and how much I saved.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 30 March 2003 01:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Sunday, 30 March 2003 01:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Ha, I actually kind of liked PB's fashion sense. If you wear Barney's labels you are eurotrash regardless of birthplace or current residence.

Aaron A., Sunday, 30 March 2003 01:33 (twenty-three years ago)

ever since the turkish function at work last night these are my favourite outfits:

(the ones at work were better tho)

minna (minna), Sunday, 30 March 2003 05:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I've got this grey "long underwear" thermal shirt that I just realized looks better on top of a t-shirt than underneath one. It's a size small and it's probably the one shirt in the world that can really emphasize one's small frame and make it look good. It makes me feel like that guy in Smilla's sense of snow who was always going on about how fashionably slim he was.
