Is it "Mothering Sunday" where you are too?

It's Mother's Day here in the UK today. Is this a worldwide phenomenon today, or is the special day for America's Moms sometime else?

Did everyone go and see their Mums today, take flowers, make cups of tea, be nice to them?

I took flowers for my Mum, but it was to her grave so not as jolly as it might have been.

What did y'all do?

Ours is the first sunday in May.

That Girl (thatgirl), Sunday, 30 March 2003 18:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Jesus Christ I didn't know! Thanks a lot for that, I'll go and ring me mum right away.

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Sunday, 30 March 2003 18:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, it is Mother's Day here in London as well as over there in Oxford where you are. I phoned her up and listened to her complain for a while. She moved house last year to somewhere she had no desire to live, and likes to moan at me about it. I've not quite worked out in what way it is at all my fault (I advised her not to move there, since she was saying even before she did that she'd hate it), but it seems that it is.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 30 March 2003 19:06 (twenty-three years ago)

ours is in may too. guess i will call my mum, and maybe go get something for myself 'from my son' since he is too young to do anything about it yet :-)
a kind of 'self-appreciation day' haha

donna (donna), Sunday, 30 March 2003 19:16 (twenty-three years ago)

DG (D_To_The_G), Sunday, 30 March 2003 19:41 (twenty-three years ago)

It's the busiest day of the year for me. So I'm knackered now (I work as Father Mother's Day, delivering guilt-ridden gifts down chimneys a day too late).

Matt (Matt), Sunday, 30 March 2003 23:11 (twenty-three years ago)

DO NOT SCARE ME LIKE THAT ENGLAND

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 30 March 2003 23:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I celebrated it by having a fairly needless argument with my mom. All in the spirit of immensely good fun, I daresay...

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Sunday, 30 March 2003 23:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I was born on mother's day.

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 30 March 2003 23:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I am glad it isn't Mother's Day in the US, as I haven't been talking with my mother this week. By May we'll be talking.

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 31 March 2003 01:32 (twenty-three years ago)

my mother doesn't hold with Mothers Day. winner. I have inherited this antipathy to all greetings-card oriented festivals.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 31 March 2003 07:23 (twenty-three years ago)

DV do you hate flowers?

mark s (mark s), Monday, 31 March 2003 07:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 31 March 2003 07:44 (twenty-three years ago)

The DV hates his Mum. He is *EVIL*.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 31 March 2003 09:41 (twenty-three years ago)

My Mum had a great Mothers' Day as she has the house to herself and a freezer stocked with ice-cream. She described herself as having had a Bridget Jones weekend!

Lara (Lara), Monday, 31 March 2003 09:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I sent my mum a card, but it didn't get there in time. She phoned me up instead, and told me she's been having nightmares about me. I changed the subject fast, as they were probably rather medical.

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 31 March 2003 13:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I phoned my parents and wished them both a happy mother's day.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 31 March 2003 13:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you in a sitcom called "my two moms"

I gave my mum a Turkish Delight bar, I couldn't afford anything else. She was pleased though cos noone else got her anything.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 31 March 2003 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 31 March 2003 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

mother to my two brothers and my sister, my sister rang I think, I also cleaned the windows of the conservatory, er....not that I live in the cluedo mansion or anything.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 31 March 2003 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

But you do have candlesticks on all four landings and a butler to dust them?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 31 March 2003 13:59 (twenty-three years ago)

In German Cluedo, Miss Scarlett is known as "Fraulein Ming". This amuses me for some reason.

C J (C J), Monday, 31 March 2003 14:02 (twenty-three years ago)

What about the Ming Dynasty??
