Have you ever been irritated by the jukebox in a pub or bar?

no. this is because i station myself very close to it and make sure no-one except a select group of people has access to it ie me. they don't call me a jukebox hogger for nothing.

the number of times I've been playing in a pub quiz league and the jukebox has been so loud that it's been impossible to concentrate or (in some cases) even difficult to hear the questions being asked! it's worse when you're playing a home game and the barman is asked to turn it down and he refuses, not least because the opposing team sometimes suspect its gamesmanship designed to put them off.

I think some NYC FAP folks were irritated by the juke at Siberia during the mid-March FAP.

of course there's also the characters who choose the worse song on the jukebox - then leave the pub! What are we to do with them?

chase after them, preferably throwing shoes.

it could be worse though, they could stay and convince their friends that singing along at full volume would be the funnest thing in the world. seriously, stake out that jukebox like the world depends on you.

The other thing is repetition. I don't think I've ever been in a pub for a period of more than a couple of hours without hearing the same song repeated. At last week's quiz, we must have been subjected to Mustang Sally at least four times! "Ride Sally Ride" ARRGH! (it always makes me think of the astronaut).

haha we always pick "rock lobster" and some strategic dylan tracks at the crown cos they're so long and you feel like yr getting your moneys worth. repeats tho, ug. once a night is enough. this isn't the RADIO, yknow!

A friend of mine collects jukeboxes. He has about two dozen of them in his house- you practically have to climb over them to get across his living room. He is a bit mental.

two dozen, that *is* a bit mental. I have a Canadian friend with one jukebox, but that's the limit of it.

I have a friend who used to make a point of putting "Stairway to Heaven" on the jukebox at least five consecutive times right before we skipped out the door. He's ensured himself on the train to hell for that, I reckon.

someone cued up an Elvis marathon yesterday which was underway when we arrived and was still going the hour and a half later when we left. Doesn't sound so bad in theory, but it got old fast.
