electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 31 March 2003 23:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to call in sick to work and then ring back at 5 to say "ONLY JOKING!"

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 31 March 2003 23:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm planning on not writing

Gatinha (rwillmsen), Monday, 31 March 2003 23:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I'll break up with my boyfriend just to watch him cry.

No wait, that's everyday.

Carey (Carey), Monday, 31 March 2003 23:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I tried fooled myself into thinking I was a famous author... but I talk better than I fool.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 31 March 2003 23:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I'll light a candle in a church for Carey's boyfriend. The poor rube.

I don't plan to do any fooling. Just as drunkards call New Years "Amateur night."

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 31 March 2003 23:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to turn in a letter of resignation.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 01:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I had the "oh, there's a letter from the army for you" this morning. I was like "it's way too early for the post to have arrived"

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 06:51 (twenty-three years ago)

im going to look at newspapers now to see if there are any good made-up stories. but i dont plan to do any fooling.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 06:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Talk Talk to reform (NOT)

I never knew Belgian's were so funny.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 06:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I hate April fools day. It was my Dad's birthday and I used to feel really sorry for him when relatives thought it was hilarious to give him elaborately wrapped gift boxes of nothing. And since he died it's always been kind of a sad day. I tend to sneer very angrily at people who try to play April fool's tricks on me now.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 07:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I always associate it with school. That's the only place I've known anyone to play many tricks.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 07:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Gino Vanelli is releasing a remix by Pharell of "I Just Wanna Stop", they'll be making the video in Brazil, Gino will rub a brazilian girls booty, with his curly hairdo.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 10:26 (twenty-three years ago)

that might as well be true, seeing as I've no idea who he is!

I would add to my previous comment that the pranks we tried to play on teachers never worked - they'd prolly seen them many times before.

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 10:29 (twenty-three years ago)

This Dominic Mohan music career thing is an April Fool, right? Tell me it's an April Fool.

Ferg (Ferg), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 11:53 (twenty-three years ago)

our receptionist has probably just fallen victim to an April fool. She has just sent an e-mail to everyone in the building saying that a driver from Barry Baldwin Cars has arrived to collect a Professor Pugsley and she has no record of any such person in the building! Or maybe its the *driver* who's the victim! It all gets so confusing! And I thought you weren't supposed to do them after midday anyway (although this never stopped That's Life!)

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

when i was in grade 4, i gave this girl in my class a (used) earplug and told her it was a mini marshmallow, she actually put it in her mouth before she realized the "april fool's joke". she laughed, but i still feel kinda bad about that. but then again, she used to eat earthworms, and i think a used earplug is a step above that.

sand.y, Tuesday, 1 April 2003 22:14 (twenty-three years ago)

you will burn

Simeon (Simeon), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 22:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, I think that Mohan record is for real, FWIW. My mother reads the Sun and she was debating whether it was that or the scuba-diving dog. I pointed out to her that the dog's owner's name is supposedly 'Alf Lipoor' -- um, geddit, really clever and amusing...

ChristineSH (chrissie1068), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 22:27 (twenty-three years ago)

April Fool's day, when celebrated by anybody outside of the media industry playing a few pranks in print for the amusement of readers, is a total dud and brings out the worst in just about everyone who fancies themselves funny

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 22:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Man, you really do hate fun.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 22:41 (twenty-three years ago)

My kids have a big, long project on this novel we're reading. I wrote on the board that all of it was due today. Unfortunately my kids are thick and lazy and I had to repeatedly reprimand them to read the board before I got any reaction.

I had one kiddo tell me there was a big roach on my foot and I jumped up quick. There are often big roaches in the school so it was a justified response.

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 23:12 (twenty-three years ago)

April Fool (see)

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 23:13 (twenty-three years ago)

But does jumping help?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 23:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Jumping is reflex when faced with something unplesant. Tom, they're 13 and 14 year-olds. The level of humor is appropriate.

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 23:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Is there a Key Stage framework for April Foolery?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 23:17 (twenty-three years ago)

no no no now you're getting it all confused

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 23:20 (twenty-three years ago)

"...[By] year 12, students are expected to show command of the basic principles of April Fool pranks and should show evidence of having mastered the use of at least one of the following false alarms for comic effect: i) Roach on teacher's shoe ii) Deceased parent iii) Nosebleed. It is not expected that they will have sophistication of foolery sufficient to spread these alarms beyond the confines of the school (to local radio stations etc.) although an understanding of the requisite methods and the acclaim bestowed upon such escalations is desirable. (see KS5:321)"

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 23:33 (twenty-three years ago)

is that from a real curriculum?

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 23:36 (twenty-three years ago)

It's from the Book of Nick, aka Dastoorology. Apparently we have to give him money so that way we can be audited by his Beard-Meter and eventually achieve a state of 'beer.' Nicole has raised objections.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 00:40 (twenty-three years ago)

ohh, he fooled me, etc.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 00:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I told my best friend that I was pregnant. And she believed me! I had thought of telling my mom this, but it seemed more mean than funny to tell her that.

rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 04:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's also D. Boon's b-day. :-/

And also today marks the 5th anniversary of Rozz Williams' suicide, which was also the same day Bauhaus announced their reunion shows.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 04:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I was planning to tell my flatmate I'm in love with her, but I realized I couldn't say that with a straight face. Anyway, it would've been too cruel.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 08:52 (twenty-three years ago)

yay, i escaped without being a fool this year. it's tough for me, being er, foolish and all.

i am still haunted by an incident a few years back when some 'friends' tricked me into thinking my site had got lots & lots of hits, when in fact it was getting its usual pisspoor 1/week. revenge was mine in a way, i guess, because i was so overjoyed when i thought some motherfuckers were actually visiting that the resulting guilt for the pranksters must've been crippling. either that or they just thought it was twice as funny. buh.

but yay, this year, i'm no fool, yo.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 09:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw the That's Life April Fool with the Lirpa Loof animal at the zoo last night (with its purple droppings!). I'd totally forgotten abt it. I only remembered the dog driving the car!

Fave April Fool of all time was an ad for BMW in the paper just after cars started appearing on the market with those little wipers for their headlights. It said that BMW was such a distinguished marque that they were bringing in a new feature - BADGEWASH! This little optional extra was a wiper and wash for the badge on the front! The small print in the coupon you could snip & send off rather gave it away as it included three check boxes: "Tick here if you want to find out about * Screenwash *Badgewash *Hogwash"!

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 2 April 2003 09:15 (twenty-three years ago)

eleven months pass...
Harvest thy spaghetti.
