This is my attempt to get you all to send me postcards of airports, if you ever see them. (Here's an address that you can send them to if you are so inclined.)

I'm especially lacking in non-American airport postcards.

This one is unbelievably classic:

Apparently I'm not the only one who collects them. Some even go for lots of money! This is madness.

This one is huge, but it's nice in a different way than most airport postcards: http://www3.uakron.edu/src/Postcards/em/airport.jpg

I'll see if I can find any Montreal ones for you. Especially Mirabel (the city's secondary, weird airport. I once found a fresh-rose vending machine in there).

slutsky (slutsky), Monday, 21 April 2003 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Wow, that is excellent!

This "e-postcard" need not apply:

But this is pure gold:

Chris P (Chris P), Monday, 21 April 2003 14:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought this was going to be a gareth thread!

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 21 April 2003 14:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha really? Oh dear!

This is nice and retro, but it's not as great as the Tri-Cities, (eastern) Washington, card I have with all the 70s cards planted outside the airport. (It's unclear if the picture on that postcard was actually taken in the 70s or if it was more recently.) But since I can't find any of the cards I actually own, here's this:

Haha really? Oh dear!

Surely a compliment, good sir! :-)

sent to me by someone on this very board:)

gareth (gareth), Monday, 21 April 2003 14:53 (twenty-three years ago)

OK, then if you see airport postcards, get two, one for me and one for Gareth.

I keep meaning to scan my collection...

Chris P (Chris P), Monday, 21 April 2003 15:07 (twenty-three years ago)

like this?

gareth (gareth), Monday, 21 April 2003 15:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes. Except only with airport postcards. Other postcards are fine and all, and I'd gladly get them, but I specifically collect airport postcards.

I mentioned this to my coworkers, who were doing some work travelling, and they didn't believe that airport postcards existed. But they spent their entire layover in Salt Lake City looking for postcards for me, with no luck. Finally they decided that my collection was just a way to get them to think about me while they were travelling.

So I had to bring the collection into work. And they were amazed.

Chris P (Chris P), Monday, 21 April 2003 15:28 (twenty-three years ago)

What's the ugliest one you have seen? I have one from Salt Lake that makes your San Diego card look like a tourist resort :-).

Ryan McKay (Ryan McKay), Monday, 21 April 2003 17:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, I'll have to double-check. That Tri-Cities card is pretty bleak but I think there are worse.

This doesn't even count the garish ones like an SFO card I have with a ginormous moon and horrible typography.

I do have to see your SLC one now though. Especially since my friends couldn't find one of the SLC airport...

Chris P (Chris P), Monday, 21 April 2003 17:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm moving [ away from PDX :-( ], but if it turns up I'll scan it for you. I knew someone who would collect postcards from all over the world that were like "Tokyo at Night" and then would just be black. She eventually amassed a surprisingly large collection.

Ryan McKay (Ryan McKay), Monday, 21 April 2003 18:03 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah i presumed this was a gareth thread as well...

robin (robin), Monday, 21 April 2003 18:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Why are you moving away from PDX? Jeez, now there really won't be any other ILX0rs here.

Chris P (Chris P), Monday, 21 April 2003 18:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Chris, if you are ever in the UK and have nothing better to do, try and get to East Midlands Airport, where they have a little shop selling loads of airplane/airport memorabalia/tat. I think they had lots of airport postcards the one time I was there. But I'm not sure.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 21 April 2003 19:35 (twenty-three years ago)

neat postcards!

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 22 May 2003 17:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Gareth looks more pale and sickly with each new animation!

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 22 May 2003 21:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Wouldn't you be tired and drawn after all that flying?

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 22 May 2003 21:38 (twenty-three years ago)

He's gonna hurl all over Frankfurt!

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 22 May 2003 21:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Think of the Germans!

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 22 May 2003 21:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Why? When do they ever think of me?

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 22 May 2003 21:51 (twenty-three years ago)

When they get all depressed and shit over a pint, and start singing "Deutschland Uber Alles". They think of us all then.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 22 May 2003 21:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Then what do I care if Gareth pukes upon them?

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 22 May 2003 22:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Touche, yes
