It pisses me off so much that he has enjoyed his freedom for so many years, aided by cretins who probably indulged and pampered him, that his arrest isn't as satisfying as it probably should be.

This freaked me out, because I frequently commute to work in Murphy (I'm driving there tonight actually). When I found out yesterday, I realized that I hadn't made hotel reservations yet. I called the hotel I usually stay at, and they were all booked up (I had guessed that it was mostly reporters, but the front desk lady said that it was mostly FBI people!). I'll bring my camera and take pictures of the back of that Save-A-Lot grocery store. SO WEIRD...

I think it's interesting how many sympathizers Rudolph apparently had in the area. It's a modern variation on the outlaw legend. I'm glad Rudolph's caught, but anybody serious about addressing any of the things Rudolph stood for needs to contend with the reality that there are subsets of people who feel very strongly those things and have reasons for their opinions. They need to be understood as people, not just written off as ignorant hicks. None of these issues will be settled without a fair amount of understanding and respect on all sides.

A cogent point, but I'd feel a lot better about the situation if they were just supporting Rudolph for whatever views they might have had as opposed to somebody planting random (or not so random) bombs.

What actually most occurred to me about that situation was how in fact there were a lot of assumptions that Rudolph would 'naturally' find sympathizers in that area. He would? Just because they were people living in a certain area, etc? A dangerous assumption to make, I'd guess.

alot of the sympathizers sympathy is due to a general anti-fed antagonism than any actual anti gay/abortion/olympics (read: globalisation in black helicopter land) snetiments.
