Good luck in finding a jury.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Not as useless as 'Leith FM' which was on during the Leith festival this year...

alext (alext), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

john who.....pick me pick me pick me pick me

james (james), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

A friend of mine was a Leith FM presenter, apparently (I never actually listened).

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 12:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I was thankfully out of town during the leith festival. I probably would have been able to pick it up cos i live right next to leith. My flat faces fife which plays havoc with my radio reception. I can be standing at one end of the kitchen with radio 4 on and move to the other end and it retunes to kingdom fm without my touching a button

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

It sounds like your radio is possessed by a Kirkcaldy ghost

(I have terrible trouble getting Radio 4 too, but I've never known that happen)

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

We have trouble picking up *any* of the BBC stations (bottom end of Easter Road) but this may be because the radio is in a basement.

alext (alext), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex, are you back in Edinburgh now?

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm about 10 mins up the road from there in Craigentinny.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I've got family on my mum's side from Fife, mostly Kirkcaldy so i might be haunted.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope -- still commuting to and from Bristol.

alext (alext), Thursday, 19 June 2003 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

By the way, why haven't the names of those Rugby Gangbang players been made public? Couldn't be because they're a bunch of middle class, public school tossers could it?

Tom D., Tuesday, 24 June 2008 09:54 (seventeen years ago)

^was thinking this

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 09:56 (seventeen years ago)

Weird how four footballers having consensual sex with a woman is SHOCK FRONT PAGE SCANDAL material, but four rugby players raping a woman isn't

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 09:57 (seventeen years ago)

At least it'll put a temporary stop to all that "footballers could learn a lot from the way rugby players behave" rubbish

Tom D., Tuesday, 24 June 2008 09:59 (seventeen years ago)

Front page of (the bit above the main headline, anyway) of the London Shite last week was something along the lines of:

Andrew(s) to stand by rugby 'rape' stars

which makes it sound like it's something they should be proud of.

Bocken Social Scene, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 10:03 (seventeen years ago)

Rugby players having sex with women is a pretty big step forward for them, let's be honest

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 10:04 (seventeen years ago)

(xp) Oh I imagine a fair amount of bragging has taken place since, in between bouts of drinking each others piss or whatever high-spirited shenanigans these rugby chaps get up to on tour

Tom D., Tuesday, 24 June 2008 10:06 (seventeen years ago)

True. I should've said "makes it sound like something we (englanders)should be proud of. we may be getting beaten on the field but &c &c"

Bocken Social Scene, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 10:11 (seventeen years ago)

The rugby players have been named:

Handsome bunch, no problems in attracting the ladies there

Tom D., Tuesday, 24 June 2008 10:14 (seventeen years ago)

"Topsy"

The stickman from the hilarious "xkcd" comics, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 10:15 (seventeen years ago)

Bigwigs had been further embarrassed when a blonde told a newspaper how, on that same night, she arrived from a fancy-dress party in a saucy Alice in Wonderland outfit to romp with winger Strettle.

Try saying "romp with winger Strettle" 4 times quickly..

Mark G, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 10:25 (seventeen years ago)

He was fantastic in bed – awesome and had amazing staying power. He kept going like the Duracell Bunny in the TV ads. "We must have done every position imaginable by the time we’d finished. What a night."

Why is that they always do "every position imaginable" in these kind of stories? Very little imagination?

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 10:28 (seventeen years ago)

Every position imaginable = standing by the bed with one of your great mates watching

Tom D., Tuesday, 24 June 2008 10:30 (seventeen years ago)

Of course royal totties hubbies to be don't do such things...

Witnesses have said that while some players hit the booze after England’s defeat by the All Blacks, Zara Phillips’s fiance Mike Tindall, 29, stuck with soft drinks.

Backpacker Adam Hastings, 21, said: "Women were flinging themselves at the players but Mike wasn’t having any of it.

"He told me other women didn’t interest him because he’d got the best girl in the world back home."

Zara arrived in New Zealand this morning to support England in tomorrow's Second Test.

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 10:31 (seventeen years ago)

the best girl in the world

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 10:32 (seventeen years ago)

Zara arrived in New Zealand this morning to support England in tomorrow's Second Test.

In a saucy Alice in Wonderland outfit? Agggggggghh no, pluck out mine eyes.

Tom D., Tuesday, 24 June 2008 10:36 (seventeen years ago)

"saucy" + "romp"

Danny Care - sounds like some crap sub-Fratellis pretend-indie band lead singer.

banriquit, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 10:37 (seventeen years ago)

Couldn't be because they're a bunch of middle class, public school tossers could it?

FWIW Two were former youth footballers (Care, Strettle)from normal backgrounds. Ojo went to Dartford Grammar (definitely not posh). No idea about Brown.

Dr.C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 11:05 (seventeen years ago)

Yes, but it's fair bet that they would be middle class, public school tossers, so better safe than sorry for the media?

Tom D., Tuesday, 24 June 2008 11:06 (seventeen years ago)

It's more "footballers are not" than "rugby are", I reckons.

Mark G, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 11:12 (seventeen years ago)

Yes, but it's fair bet that they would be middle class, public school tossers, so better safe than sorry for the media?

Out of the 32 man squad for the NZ tour I found the schools of 28 players : it worked out 14 state school and 14 private. Most of the private schools were small independant grammar schools, not 'name' public schools.

Dr.C, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 11:37 (seventeen years ago)

Half went to private schools? That's more than I thought!

Tom D., Tuesday, 24 June 2008 11:38 (seventeen years ago)

Footballers in rape allegations, especially gang-rape allegations, seem to go unnamed as often as they are named.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 11:41 (seventeen years ago)

wtf? "EIGHT PREMIERSHIP PLAYERS FACE RAPE INQUIRY"

Remember this?

Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 11:42 (seventeen years ago)

Even if they were on international duty abroad for England? Hasn't happened, of course, because footballers can behave themselves on international duty, unlike rugby players

Tom D., Tuesday, 24 June 2008 11:44 (seventeen years ago)

That's because professional footballers are treated like tiny children and not let out of sight on international duty. Possibly with good reason.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 11:45 (seventeen years ago)

Also not surrounded by a bunch of sycophantic pressmen turning a blind eye/ joining in the "fun"

Tom D., Tuesday, 24 June 2008 11:51 (seventeen years ago)

wtf?

banriquit, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 11:52 (seventeen years ago)

you are kind of reaching here.

banriquit, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 11:53 (seventeen years ago)

Yes, I know, I'll shut up, I'm even annoying myself today
