Emerging Art in Williamsburg Brooklyn

Anyone up on the Williamsburg artists like Lori Ellison and Daniel Zeller and their obsessive art? Is it abstract expressionist? Is it brilliant? Is it crap? Is it therapy? Have you heard of it? Cheers![You know I'm not talking about one of Derek Beckham's kids, right?]

I have nothing to say on this subject, except to proclaim catwank to be the perfect ILX email address.

it is a great address, I would imagine the amount of pseudo right wing truck cap wearers in williamsburg will put off many people attending any art shows

It's all crap.

Note that the new artists live in the 'Wick.

Pseuco-intellectual catwank wouldn't fit, so I had to abbreviate.

Tim, see pierogi2000.com and check out the flat files. Interesting stuff.

I've had a quick look at bots of it (will look at more tomorrow) and there is some interesting stuff there. A lot of it would have been called New Neurotic Realism if it had been around London at the time, and my main criticism of chunks of it would be the same as NNR. That is to say that some of it falls into the trap of being not-visually-arresting-enough and not having any obvious conceptual hooks.

Oh that sounds terribly negative. I like a lot of this kind of stuff (or at least its UK equivalent) when the work gets incredibly obsessive and detailed and gives the impression of pop-ish flatness while being incredibly closely worked. I tend not to respond very well when it feels hippy-dippy, artsy-crafty, or when it looks like the doodlings of teenaged fungus enthusiasts.

The weird shirtless opera man of Graham Ave (this moniker does not do him justice, but I'm really not sure what to call him)
