I've downloaded a folder called
"sweatshops run by american corporations (including walmart & nike)"
here's what the folder list info have to say
"Charles Kernaghan talks about sweatshops and the U.S. companies involved.

Summary: Charles Kernaghan of the National Labor Committee, talks about sweatshop abuse by Wal-Mart, Nike, Disney and Kathy-Lee Gifford. Part of the ongoing series of speakers against the WTO from People for Fair Trade 1-877-STOP-WTO.
Featuring: Charles Kernaghan, National Labor Committee "

Anyone know more horror stories of sweatshop abuses?

i like the term "sweatshop abuse". its like "you can use sweatshops as long as you don't abuse them."

I like the "horror stories" bit too.

All those poor flights to Australia have burned people out in this day in age. Some people here can't even keep up there flat food diet!
The fact that people went ona flat food diet cause they read it in a Copland book is scary enough.

You should address the sweatshop issue instead of trying to trivialize it by attacking me.

I was not encouraging wall mart and nike before hearing those mp3s but farg, they go on about documented cases of starvation, beatings, humilations, stripping the worker of their rights, insalubrity of the working environment: heat, workers who can only drink (yellow water that makes them sick to their stomacs) twice a day uppon card presentation to gunmens, the same system used to go to the bathrooms, no proper ventilation, kids having to work with toxic glue with bare hands, they are left with no money and all this violence continues outside of work because they can't elevate themselves from the "misery" to the "extremely poor" status, etc
This shit is way more serious and important than how bad I can come across in writing.

Does anyone know of more compagnies who are using sweatshops?

Sébastien Chikara (Sébastien Chikara), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Lots of them do, Sébastien - it's one of the sad facts of living in the "modern world." Check-out this link - the site also has some excellent links to external sites, too - it's as good of a starting point as any.

Your writing is the least of my problems with you hippies.

Drop the ad hominem, you troll and write something constructive if you can or shut up. The question is: how would you solve the sweatshop problem?

I posted some info from people against the WTO but it doesn't mean I back everything they say on the contrary, esp when I think about some of their luddite/hippy/rage against the machine discourses: since this accelerating economical/technological progress is key to bring the future I think is best for humanity, it is against my interest to be plainly against it or to contribute into a disturbance that might delay my desire but still there is place for political subtility, like, I would say that I'm for the recommendations I've heard that were proposing taxation models to be applied to a free market to make sure international companies would at least pay for the social infra-structure they are using, and help the local development instead of being a nuisance/squatter. Such a thing could sound resonable and be an overall elegant solution satisfying to everybody don't you think?
People who would rise given this opportunity would likely contribute to the accelerating economical/technological progress.
About my wish to see a popular network of participatory economy around the world:
I think there is room for it without it being a nuisance to technological progress and ethically spaking I would like to see a viable alternative outside capitalism for people who, in due time, would like to benefit from advanced technologies like mind uploading.
I am not concerned by the dichotomy technocrat/hippy in my ascent into becoming ajupiter brain.
