.....Vienna! What really means nothing to me is this error message:

RUNDLL32 caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 016f:bff7b992.

I get to see this every time I start my PC at the moment. The dialogue box that apprears states that RUNDLL32 has performed an illegal operation etc. This means nothing to me, so this is a dull but kinda necessary plea for help.

Answers on a postcard. Please!

You'll be pleased (?) to know that this error message means nothing to just about everyone. In fact, I think there's probably about 6 or 7 people who would be able to tell you what's actually, truthfully going wrong here. Your solution is to reinstall Windows.

(I exaggerate. An afternoon of tinkering and I could probably sort it out, but it's really not worth it.)

Oh, I used to get those error messages all the time the last couple of years I hung onto Windows 95. It was very annoying, because I would be working on something or clicking around and the next thing I knew, the system was crashing and I would either get that message or the dreaded Blue Screen of Death.

Hmmm. Now I'm trying to remember how I got rid of it. I know that ever since I've started using Windows 98, I can't remember ever seeing either, so maybe a Windows upgrade is what you need [er, that would sound silly if you use Windows XP, but I can't imagine you having that kind of problem with that OS]. Reinstalling Windows is another good idea [which needs no disclaimers if you use Windows XP]. Also, I'd look at the programs that automatically load up on your system once you get Windows loaded up to see if maybe they're being the culprit. Sometimes programs get corrupted and this is the end result.

Hm, though. Trying to think if this error message business happened even after I got a new hard drive. Oh, I went through a period of having such a hard time with my system that now seems all a jumble but thankfully has not been the case for at least a year and a half (knock on wood). Can't remember, though, if Windows 98 solved it or the new hard drive did.

*searches around desperately for someone who knows more than she does*
