What kind of progressive sickness would have you in a wheelchair?

This is probably too open to figure out, but I flipped on the TV a few hours ago, which defaults to channel 1, NY1 local news station and the first face I saw up close was a friend from the internet at the Mermaid Parade (didn't realize that was today). They interviewed her for a long time and kept coming back to her. Anyway, at one point they cut to a side view and she was in a wheelchair. This makes sense because the close-ups of her were aiming down and she's so tall that there's no way that shot would be possible unless the cameraman was on a ladder.

Anyway, I posted that I saw her and asked why she was in a wheelchair. In response, I was told nobody's spoken to her for a couple months, but last they heard "things weren't too good".

I'm nosy. I presume it's some degenerative disease. She was very happy to be at the parade in the rain. Maybe this is due to some whole new outlook on life or something.

Any guesses?

MS & ALS come to mind.

That sucks, I had considered MS but wasn't sure. ALS is new to me, I'll look it up now... Thanks.

That's terrible. A few months sounds like a pretty fast progression for MS or ALS, but what do I know. Injury maybe?

MS or maybe ME. Poor girl :(

Possibly muscular dystrophy? Or MND? There are a few possibilities. I doubt you could guess with any degree of accuracy. :(

Cystic fibrosis, maybe. Though I'm not sure how fast it'd progress.
