so, what's up? how are things with you?

geeta (geeta), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

geeta rescue me!!

i am bored out of my mind, rewriting a feature about ARTS FUNDING AND HOW IT'S OK AT THE MOMENT MORE OR LESS

if i cut any more the above will constitute the entire article

mark s (mark s), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

erm, you could compare it to the sorry state of arts funding here in the US! i mean that's actually big news that arts funding is ok isn't it? i mean that's good!

geeta (geeta), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

but not as much as Canadia (I'm guessing).

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:20 (twenty-two years ago)

that is boring, mark - is it about the reconstituted arts council of england and how they have streamlined the services to present a more 'client' based organisation?

doom-e, Monday, 23 June 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

the writer doesn't compare it to ANYTHING: other countries, other times, counterfactual situations

mark s (mark s), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I have just rearranged my enormous one-part imminent deadline into three lesser staggered deadlines and am a very very happy Tico Tico

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello Geeta! Things are OK but my life is currently rather too factual and could do with a blast of counterfactuality.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

How are things with you?

Tim (Tim), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm currently contemplating several potential boyfriends, some potential review work, and a definite trip to the UK. Plus: how I can take off work on Friday to wait for a mattress from IKEA to be delivered, and if I should call my dad.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:41 (twenty-two years ago)

A Blast of Counterfactuality:
How would London be difft if Tim Hopkins had gills?

mark s (mark s), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure I can't imagine any situation in which Tim Hopkins would act like a fish.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Should I go to Kim's Mondo on my lunch hour? Should I instead buy a book on the history of American television (this prompted by my memories of a very young Ted Turner Superstation '76-'77)? Should I resurrect my "Send in the Clowns" project (don't answer that, folks)? What's next on my spring-now-summer cleaning agenda?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

How would London be difft if Tim Hopkins had gills?

Gilberto Gil or Andy Gill? HA HA ugh

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yeah, Geeta -- BOWIE! WORLD TOUR! Your thoughts?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 23 June 2003 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm currently contemplating several potential boyfriends, some potential review work, and a definite trip to the UK

haha daddino i wish i had your problems!! when are you going to the UK, dude?

i'm fine mostly, just a little Fall-ed out at the moment

i'm of mixed feelings about the bowie world tour -- i think he should only play small clubs and appear anonymously at bars and carnivals and state fairs and stuff. also he needs to remember how grebt 'lodger' was, and he needs to sack his backing band and find a new one.

geeta (geeta), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

mark did you manage to print out CoM?

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 23 June 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

ok i titled the article HAVE FUN WITH FUNDING!! - my editor may change it

all the oxygen in london has been sucked off into space

mark s (mark s), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

or brighton...

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 23 June 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

marcello yes i did!! i wish i had brought it to work with me though!!

mark s (mark s), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

There's still plenty of oxygenated water here in the river!

Tim (Tim), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

lucahopkins sleeps with the fishes

mark s (mark s), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Am currently a small bundle of nerves, thanks to working on a large article whose nature will be revealed in a week or so. Have a giant stack of stuff from yesterday's MoCCA festival to read; hope to get to it later in the week.

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

hey tim, i can't get that jimmy webb - but is there any other stuff that you may want from me?

doom-e, Monday, 23 June 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

the jimmy webb is still in canada, i thought you were an e(ther) friend and the curt would never make it on the doorstep (ooh. i am so cynical). what is happening re: revola, tim? did joe email your friend?

doom-e, Monday, 23 June 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i want to read the CoM book!!

mark that is the best title ever. will the headline include the double exclamation marks too? haha also you should add (get it?) to the end of the title to make it even more punchy

geeta (geeta), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't you spell that "geddit?"?

Doom-e: I dunno, I'd be grateful for any of that reasonably recent revola stuff becaus eI don't have any apart from the DD.

I want "Gills" by the Go-Betweens.

Or one sixteenth of a gill. Or two.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

heheh geeta i want to PUBLISH CoM The Book! but i need advice on how to pitch it properly. according to Suzy, if I go for Serpents Tail they'll pay me £3000 and that's all I'll ever get from them. Verso are another option and might offer a better deal. Either way I want to get it out before the end of the year.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 23 June 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

tim, i will make you a sampler of revola stuff and you can choose from there...!

doom-e, Monday, 23 June 2003 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

The headline should read: PUTTING THE FUN BACK INTO FUNDING

when are you going to the UK, dude?

October, for the big wedding-related thing.

I want "Gills" by the Go-Betweens. Or one sixteenth of a gill. Or two.

You need two heads.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

The headline should read "Taking the Ding Back Out Of Funding".

MD: two heads good; forehead's bad.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

b-but he is arguing that the fun was never OUT of funding!!??

i think the writer has ADD: there is zero logical connection between any two sentences and he repeats himself at least once a paragraph

mark s (mark s), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I am at work now -- it is grey and rainy but it's a warm summer light rain/heavy fog, so yay. This week should be a good one and far less busy than last week, rah. I am looking forward to the FAP, considering various long term trips and plans and otherwise enjoying life.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

haha mark change all instances of 'funding' to 'pudding' and see if they notice

geeta (geeta), Monday, 23 June 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Taking the pud out of pudding!!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 23 June 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i think it would rock if you put - FRISKY FUNDING? COULD IT BE TOO MUCH FUN?

doom-e, Monday, 23 June 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm of mixed feelings about the bowie world tour -- i think he should only play small clubs and appear anonymously at bars and carnivals and state fairs and stuff.

Has any megasuperduperstar of Bowie's stature ever been able to pull something like that off? I suppose if anyone could, it'd be Bowie. He's rich enough, and he's still got enough subcultural allure in him to make small intimate shows seem like not too much of a stretch, if that makes any sense.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 23 June 2003 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Mike that's the best news I've heard all day (beating even the deadline shifting ;) ) - thankyou very much! We're clearly going to have to have a pretty colossal FAP as well as the wedding party.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 23 June 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, that's right! Is that date for the wedding party firmed up yet?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 23 June 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Radiohead's last tour was all small venues. Sub-thousand rather than sub-hundred, though.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 23 June 2003 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm v v v v tired.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 23 June 2003 14:11 (twenty-two years ago)

(ps Hello again geeta)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 23 June 2003 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Didn't I send you an e-mail about this, Tico? :)

Apart from Ned and myself, I'm not sure which New World Ilxors are coming, but I can name more than a few East Coasters for whom attendance at this thing should be mandatory.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 23 June 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Mike what email address of yours is working - only my work one is currently so I'm not getting any emails. I said something about this somewhere on ILX but not anywhere prominent I think.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 23 June 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Today, I'm okay. I'm on holiday. Just got the Fly badge in Pokemon. Listened to Neutral Milk Hotel just now, next it'll be Pinketron, then Polvo's "exploded drawing", I am listening to all my previous summer obsession albums, or albums I listened to alot in a particular summer. I had a really nice cake earlier.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 23 June 2003 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Hi geeta, I am still working on the Pulp CD for you (with special secret bonus track!!!)

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 23 June 2003 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinketron! That's what I was listening to a bit ago, jel.

Geeta, the carnival idea is fantastic. He should play Coney Island.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 23 June 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I was just sent home from a home patient because of flood. (She's OK, her house is on stilts and she has plenty of food and water; the problem is that I wouldn't have been able to get home if the water had risen much past the 6 inches that surrounded the house.)

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Monday, 23 June 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I listened to Maladroit. My potato wedges are taking too long to cook.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I was listening to the Blue Album all day yesterday, I"m not really sure why. I'm totally in the mood for Weezer, and INXS.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello ILE. My back pain is getting worse and worse and do notunderstand what it causing it. Except it happens in this chair.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Mike what email address of yours is working - only my work one is currently so I'm not getting any emails. I said something about this somewhere on ILX but not anywhere prominent I think.

When in doubt, use the epicharmus-AOL one. The ones with the ibm.net, the palm.net and mariasducktales.com domains are history. The nyc.rr.com isn't but I never use it because I'm too lazy to do anything about it.

As for yours -- sadly, this seems to explain a lot. The work one I can't find anywhere. At least the ticoticoilx one works, right?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Things are okay. I'm looking forward to not-working for a couple weeks -- I'm going to sit around reading all day, in an effort to get myself back in the literary mindset for school. It looks like I'll have a place to live, though I've been given no details as to what or where it might be yet. Now I just need to sell my car.

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a week off work and I intend to loaf around whenever possible, while listening to Scott Walker with my shades on.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 23 June 2003 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Hi Geeta. My life is entirely on hold waiting for visits from exciting American ILXers.

Okay, not entirely.

Also, Mark: YOU CAN'T SPELL 'FUNDING' WITHOUT 'FUN'!!!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 23 June 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

ARTS FUNDED
Leisure Docks Yacht, Chortles Dismissively

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 23 June 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

you can't spell funding without 'dung'

you can't spell funding without 'gun'

you can't spell funding without 'nun'

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 24 June 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Hi geeta.

Not much happening here - I am watching my mylar turtle balloon spin in the draft from my fan - the ribbon is getting all kinked-up and by the hour it's getting shorter. (Kinda like watching paint dry.)

But I just watched a video of my sister belly dancing and that was fun - and now I have a crush on her teacher, which is more fun. Ta.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 01:49 (twenty-two years ago)

At the moment I am currently attempting to stay awake and alert after having taken what is possibly the strongest allergy medication ever made. It's fantastic for its ability to stop the sneezing that seems to be a nonstop occurrence for me, but I feel more out of it than I ever felt when I was on my daily Vicodin.

Folks, if you want to replicate this feeling -- Walgreens Maximum Strength No-Aspirin Allergy Sinus Geltabs. Ask for it by name.

Innocent Dreamer (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm in new york for a little bit and sad one piece i worked hard on is staying on hold but also having a good time otherwise and also possibly have tracked down a sorta lost friend. Am somewhat fearing returning to boston conducting the job-hunt there etc. Almost thru Harry Potter (another childerens book author: Alfred Sleater! [there mark]) feeling generally pretty satisfied.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 03:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Jarvis Cocker should play Coney Island too.

I just took 36 pictures down the park of hogweeds, other weeds, aeroplanes flying overhead, my dog and an empty playground. I feel very creative now.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 09:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello ILE!

I have to get off the electron future-web quite soon, since Chatelet's future-prices are eating a hole in my future wallet, but I just wanted to do spray a little drive-by bonhomie your way and note my appreciation and admiration for your etc.

I also somewhat disturbingly note that ILE appears to have "gotten better" in my absence

KORITFW!!!!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah yeah, go off and keep celebrating in Europe you PUNK. Have a good time! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Bonjour Geeta & ILE

I'm drinking some home-brewed Dunkin Donuts coffee & feeling a bit sad, because I just had 4 days of real Dunkin Donuts on the east coast. I wish I was going to NYC for the July 4th FAP, but I'm either staying here or going to Boston (which has Hatch Shell concert & fireworks!!).

lyra (lyra), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello ILE,

This is my 1000th lifetime post to ILX. Thank you all for making it such a good time!

james (james), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm pretty good. Settling into the new job is a lot easier than I'd anticipated. The weather here is k-fucking-gorgeous, and I've become a morning person, which is a refreshing change of pace from my usual haggard-night-guy ways. I also move into my apartment in Belltown today, yay! It is schwank, kids--private bathroom, lap pool, barbecue, sauna, gym, courtyard, deck, the works. Still have to figure out where to store my belongings back in NYC and how much it'll cost to have them moved, though.

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

and I just signed up for a massage. I'm decadent!

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm now going out to a local diner with the Michelin guide to London I AM GOING TO THE UK IN OCTOBER I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH PEOPLE!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

And I'll be there too! Tagging along in Mike's wake as he PARTIES ON DOWN.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 16:25 (twenty-two years ago)

hip hip hooray for jaymc! on his magical 1,000th post day!

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 16:39 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, thanks, jel!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

gosh, maybe I oughta go to London in Oct. too....

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Matos, you're in Belltown?? Wow, DB is no longer my closest ILX neighbor. Anyway, I don't know that I'd describe Belltown as decadent- although we do have the yummiest croissants ever.

lyra (lyra), Thursday, 26 June 2003 04:49 (twenty-two years ago)

things are horrible here, all is ruin

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 26 June 2003 06:50 (twenty-two years ago)

lately i'm finding it excruciatingly difficult to COMMUNICATE. not all the time (yesterday was a good day actually), but i just had a phone conversation and it sounded like a series of wrong notes. it feels like i've forgotten how to engage with rhythms of speech - it's hard to express 'suprise' or 'thanks' or... i dunno. i'm tired and sick today.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh. This is funny.

I'm reading this thread not even 15 minutes after taking yet another one of those lovely allergy geltabs that made me feel so out of it the last time I posted herein.

I'm doing rather well right now, thanks. The meds haven't kicked in yet so I'm feeling alert still. This will change. I'm quite happily listening to the newest MP3 CD I made and wondering if I should save up for a new computer (so I can burn regular music CDs and not have my system be all wonky anymore) or save up for an upgrade to the stereo system on my Chevy Blazer (so I can listen to MP3 CDs while I drive). They'll both cost about the same amount of money. Hm.

Innocent Dreamer (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Compared to the last few weeks, I've been feeling rather good lately (despite private home situations). Can't help wishing I was already back in London, though....

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I second that!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

things are great and shit at the same time. rollercoaster

Things are great here. Really, really fucking great.

They could go one way or another by the end of this week though.
