This is the thread where you remind me of things I need to take to Glastonbury. I am absent minded at the best of times and thanks to work these are far from the best of times.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 07:40 (twenty-two years ago)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 07:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Toilet roll

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 07:44 (twenty-two years ago)

fully charged mobile phone

chris (chris), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 07:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I found binbags very useful - for muddy boots etc.

Sam (chirombo), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 07:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Tent. Mattress roll thing. Sleeping bag. Medication. I am in a quandary over whether or not to take my wellies, I spent hours digging them out from under my bed last night.. they are quite bulky but if I don't take them and then need a pair I don't want to have to buy more. What to do..?

Emma, Wednesday, 25 June 2003 07:56 (twenty-two years ago)

A small washing up bowl & bottles of water. I always found this quite useful if you want to have a bit of a wash in your tent. A;ways a clean girl me!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 07:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I am a filthy tramp Pinkpanther but thanks for the suggestion anyway!

I have been thinking about the wellies thing too, but I'm not taking any cos I'd have to buy some now, so I'll risk the scalper's prices there I think.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Sun lotion.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I got my wellies a few years back and have worn them precisely once. My scheme to stomp round London in them and start a new fashion was too soon forgotten.

Emma, Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Tapes!

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a rummage for tapes this morning and all I could find was a surprising number of Erasure albums and a bunch of old crap an ex gave me including rub indie comps & Brian Eno. yikes.

Emma, Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I found THIS IS HIP-HOP from '94 which is a terrific comp though maybe a bit full-on for Glasto mornings.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I taped Gareth's 'Every Posse And Crew...' hardcore comp last night. Again, poss a bit full on, but it's all good stuff.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:21 (twenty-two years ago)

reservations for pilton travelodge

j0e (j0e), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Tapes. I found Indie City, Box Frenzy, Colourbox and an Indie Top 20 (about 1989) which has the Carter version of Rent on it! hurrah

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

wet wipes.

malt loaf.

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

You don't really need to bring Toilet Roll if you're low on space: they sell it on site.

My headphones! Oh bugger, you don't live with Starry anymore.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Tico - I apologise for assumption that you might want to be clean! :-)
(of course what i didn't say was, it doubles as a toilet in the tent if you're a girl when you're too out of it to wee in a paper cup/bottle!)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:38 (twenty-two years ago)

and you then wash from the same basin?! i'm so glad i'm not going to glasto.

angela (angela), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh & sunglasses are essential!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:41 (twenty-two years ago)

The washing thing is obv a no go after the toilet activity! It's back to good old baby wipes!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:42 (twenty-two years ago)

DADSTOOL!

oh, you've broken yours haven't you. i'll have mine though :)

maltloaf is a fantastic idea though, mmmm, maltloaf. where did i hear about PRE-BUTTERED MALTLOAF? was it a dream?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope, it exists in petrol stations all over the land!
Don't forget to take the jaffa cakes aswell!
Damnit I wish I was going!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Steve, avoid the pre-buttered maltloaf, Mike the student had it here and it absolutely mings.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

pre-buttered maltloaf. wow. I hope it wasn't a dream but reality, or at least a vision of the future.

truly we live in the age of convenience

j0e (j0e), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:50 (twenty-two years ago)

That's my lunchtime sorted - I'm off to the petrol station

j0e (j0e), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Jaffa Cakes are likely to melt in the saunaesque heat of a tent. Unless you eat them really quickly. Which is quite likely. well very likely.

I am taking Twiglets cos Anna once told me marmite stops you getting ill after a big nite out.

Emma, Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:52 (twenty-two years ago)

PRE-BUTTERED MALTLOAF holy shit. warning duly noted but i fear this is one of those things, like that Tizer which stays cold the whole time no matter what you do to it, which will have to be tried even though it's clearly a bad idea.

pete b. (pete b.), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 08:55 (twenty-two years ago)

chris the point being that if one takes pre-buttered, one doesn't have to take any butter (or a knife) which would be likely to ming even more after three days in a tent...

(i am assuming here that "pre-buttered" is actually "pre-highly-processed-and-full-of-preservatives-vegetable-oil-derivatived")

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

maltloaf = food of the gods (if gods are malt fetishists)

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 09:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Jaffa cakes never make it past the first nite!! Twiglets are a must too!
(the pre-buttered malt loaf is not too bad!) *ducks*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 09:01 (twenty-two years ago)

or maybe we're all confused and it has just been pre-butted in a field full of goats

j0e (j0e), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 09:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I am about to leave the house after some "difficulty" with Ryanair this morning means i am 60 euro poorer and on standby for the next flight. So I would suggest you ensure your student card is in date but I suspect this won't be a problem unless you are trying to cop off with indie girls or something.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

"student card"

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 09:16 (twenty-two years ago)

So *that's* why I haven't had any success pulling the indie ladies of late.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

ear plugs

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 09:24 (twenty-two years ago)

RickyT, always be prepared for the indie ladies, ...i see with this week's NME - 2 free durex performa, and has anyone tasted that free Go-Co milk choco energy bar yet? nice or disgusting?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

If RickyT brings any indie ladies back to our tent circle they will be entertained by my extra special mixtape.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 09:59 (twenty-two years ago)

oh god I am stuck here until a flight at 8.30, I may end up spending the night in bristol airport yet. stress.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan - you can come back to town during that time, or are you in a clear perspex cube? Never ever give RyanAir any excuse for just taking your money and running - cheeky student tricks don't work with them, they are The Man.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.bristolairport.co.uk/getthere/getthere.asp?g=coach

as long as you're out by 2345 you can get to temple meads or bristol bus station Ronan. however that's not a whole lot of use if you can't get to the site from there, which i fear you may not...

last bus from bristol 2030 it seems...

http://www.firstbadgerline.co.uk/weston/newsf.htm

sorry matey.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

WEBCAM WEBCAM, i can SEE THE PYRAMID!!!!

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah so I saw Steve : (

I'm checking the trains but I doubt there's any chance really.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

no, no chance. how nice/dodgy is the train station?

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought if RyanAir have just fucked you on a flight, the simplest thing would be to walk over to the Aer Lingus desk and get a ticket from them. Or are RyanAir still cheaper on no notice?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i am now on another flight so it may be a bit late for that. I don't think Aer Lingus had a flight until tomorrow. I am thinking of trying to hitch a lift or something, or maybe I'll just find a hostel in Bristol.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I find it strange that no one has mentioned a TORCH. I haven't got a torch.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

So *that's* why I haven't had any success pulling the indie ladies of late.

No Ricky - I suspect it may be the malt loaf.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I have two torches and lots of batteries. i have promised one torch to starry.

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Well then you can't very well go to Glasto N! Come on, hand over your ticket & all will be well again.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

indie guys with trucker hats, you'll be needing a few of them

chris (chris), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah yes TICKET! That would be a good idea!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I also have no torch. This is vexing me somewhat. Perhaps I should go to Argos and buy one.

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

both GLASTO ticket and COACH ticket tico...

i have a crappy torch, but really need a better excuse than going to glasto to finally buy a maglite...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I HAVE A MAGLITE DAMNIT, NOW HAND OVER YOUR TICKETS!!!!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

"extra special mixtape" = new euphemism?

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

only for horror, jel.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

oh no! endless pet art! oh NO!

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

has anyone ever stayed in bristol? i am currently trawling the accomodation lists. i envisage a wicker man style night of terror.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I've texted Bristolian Alex T so see if he's got any leads Ronan.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks a million Tom. I am at my wits end, it'd be fine if I wasn't on my own but as it is it's hard to know where to book or not.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:04 (twenty-two years ago)

He's drawn a blank unfortunately :(

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, Ronan.

.
.
.

But

Hurray, I am on holiday!

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.bristolbackpackers.co.uk/

try that one mate, don't know if they've got any space but it may be able to sort you out..

chris (chris), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

No worries Alan and Tom, I realise I am killing the Glasto vibe on this thread a bit. I'll sort something out and be back in the spirit of things tomorrow.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I have well and truly learnt my lesson having checked every barn and hotel in Bristol, not found a room, and had to book a new flight tomorrow morning for the bargain price of 170 euro on top of the 60 euro on top of the 50 euro I already paid.

You'd think this would leave me cranky but no, it has steeled my resolve to get messy more than you could know. BRING IT ON!
