Apparently, there's also a band Can and then there's the Can Can dance.

Hey, that demonstrates a can do-do attitude.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 26 June 2003 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course, it also serves as an informal prefix meaning that something is Canadian.

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 26 June 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

pete is god, that is all.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 June 2003 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 26 June 2003 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 26 June 2003 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being fully engaged and stimulated at work and 10 being climbing the walls in desperation to alleviate the boredom, would you give yourself an 85 Horace? Anyway, I love these threads… you CAN’t beat them. Hahahaha. Oh.

Alex K (Alex K), Thursday, 26 June 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

New job starting tomorrow - hope I don't get the can.

Alex K (Alex K), Thursday, 26 June 2003 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

And no come back of 'no can do' please.

Alex K (Alex K), Thursday, 26 June 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh my god. I completely forgot about getting CANNED.
Yes, if I spent as much effort DOING my job as I do AVOIDING it, I would surely be CEO by now.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 26 June 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

It's quite possibly Bad Manners, but in France they repotedly do the can-can whenever they hear that the new film, Gladiatress, starring the Smack the Pony team, recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.
You know what you've done: can, worms, opened.

A few interesting things about all things "can":

1.  Can recorded a song called "Hunters & Collectors", which one of my very favorite artists then used as a band name (until they disbanded). This is all very cool to me.

2.  It has been proven that soda in cans cools down faster than soda in bottles. During the summertime, when you want to pull a cold soda out of the fridge faster, this is vital to know.

3.  What's weird about the French phenom-named-after-a-place called Cannes is that it's spelled C-A-N-N-E-S but is pronounced C-A-N by just about every non-French speaker out there (including me).

4.  The word "can" rhymes with Dan. Dan is the first name of veteran ILX poster Dan Perry. Dan Perry is a hilarious poster who is absolutely nutso about The Cure, two of many reasons why I like him!

can i just ask a question?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 26 June 2003 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, you call your mama Tiger
And we all know you are lying
And your boyfriend's name is Eagle
And he lives up in the sky...watch out
Watch out the tiger don't go claw the eagle's eye
But let the eagle take the tiger by surprise
Scratch out her eyes

So make a stand for your man, honey
Try to can the can
Put your man in the can, honey
Get him while you can
Can the can, can the can
If you can, wow, well, can the can

Well your sister's got the feline touch, she touches up your mind
And your eagle lover likes his little bit of evil loving all the time
Don't let the cat get into the eagle's nest at night
Because the eagle could say 'yes' without a fight
Scratch out her eyes

So make a stand for your man, honey
Try to can the can
Put your man in the can, honey
Get him while you can
Can the can, can the can
If you can, wow, well, can the can

Ooh, can the can, ooh, can the can, uh huh, can the can
Ooh, can the can, ooh, can the can, ooh, can the can
Ah, honey, honey, honey, honey, honey

Make a stand for your man, honey, try to can the can
Put your man in the can, honey, get him while you can
Can the can, can the can, if you can, wow

Make a stand for your man, honey, try to can the can...

Could you lend me a jar of love

Take my hand with this glove of love!

MARK KNOPFLER

No Can Do

Skint in a material world
I did a warehouse stint for southsea girl
It was Hong Kong clothes for cash
Everybody got treated worse than trash
Punch the card in the company clock
Load the trolleys and the company trucks
And around and around the whole day through
And you couldn't sit down when there was nothing to do

Well they had beaten up people from every land
Fools like me trying to be in bands
A little French girl so good to me
But I couldn't love her back so lonely
A backpacker travelling through
A lumberjack with the travelling blues
We had worn out shoes and worn out cuffs
And big ideas that were never big enough

He said the man wants you go wash his car
Hey you I'm talking to you
I said me, not me uh uh
No can do

No can can do no can
No can can do no can

Now some were grown up unlike me
And were dealing with reality
I was spittin' sulkin' smokin' shirkin'
While a lady from Jamaica was singing and working
I had everyone but me to blame
And every day was just the same
Well nobody ever said it was a righteous world
But if they did they never said it at southsea girl

He said the man wants you go wash his car
Hey you I'm talking to you
I said me, not me uh uh
No can do

No can can do no can
No can can do no can

Well I've made my bed on peoples floors
Opened up and closed some doors
Dreamed that if my dreams came true
Then I wouldn't do what I didn't want to
Walking through the gates to the outside
To dream some dreams that never died
And I walked the streets of London town
Looking for a place to put my head down
