Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 28 June 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah I live in welling, which is between woolich/bexleyheath. I know blackheath, charlton and lewisham etc.

I don't think this thread is cool or anything like that bcz its just some fucking residential area and er, it has shopping centres, and crap like pubs so there isn't much of an opinion. its just there, its mostly a dump.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 28 June 2003 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

it's a shame that the cinema in Greenwich has gone, now

Andrew L (Andrew L), Saturday, 28 June 2003 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

it's the end of the North London line, I think I went there when I was 10. Isn't there some sort of Maritime museum there, or am I completely and utterly wrong? The Thames Barrier is there, yes?

Greenwich and Blackheath are generally recognised as the only nice parts of that whole region, and they are very pretty indeed.

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 29 June 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I lived in Greenwich for 18 months (Apr 99 to Sep 00) and loved the place, though much of that was to do with the happy fact that so many friends were a short bus ride (or less) away (many of them ILXers, but not in those neighbourhoods now - with one exception [toescantalk to thread]) and our flat became a node on a throbbing web of SE London social/creative activity.

I haven't been back much since I left; the area does seem to be slowly changing character - undergoing a similar kind of regeneration/blandification as Angel in the centre, with leisure pursuits being pulled into the peninsula by the developments there.

It took a recent viewing of Sunday Bloody Sunday to remind me how much I missed the glorious park and prom. I'd move back like a shot if I thought I could afford it.
