Can someone tell me about "The L Magazine"?

I don't live in New York, I know nothing of the city's virtues. All I know is that one of my oldest friends is working for this magazine. Have any of you New York types heard of it? Is it good?

Their press release actually includes the phrase "targeting our demographic." That's all I know. But good luck to them.

No one has even seen the thing?

I've seen their little newspaper distribution boxes around in the East Village, but I haven't read one yet.

Apparently it is a free listings circular for the Lower East Side and L train riders.

yeah i picked one up the other day. the layout of the listings was nice, but the same info is in the voice and the onion and stuff...it is easier to read, though.

I got the first issue and the second so far. There was an opinion piece written by two opposing authors about whether or not there was a need for The L Magazine.

I thought it was great at first, until I realized it only showcases things it feels are "cool" enough. For instance, the film listings and reviews are limited to a dozen or so films. Surprise, Bruce Almighty wasn't in it!

It's still fine to give you a sneak peak at what might be going on in the city, but it's not as all-encompassing as the Voice, so really the only point to it is that it fits in your pocket.

Also, in the first issue there was a page that showed one of their returned postcards, which I found funny. Apparantly, the L Magazine must've put out postcards on which people could fill out their event or club and send it back to the L Magazine to get advertised or listed. The returned postcard was from Astoria (my neighborhood) and the person who filled it out (and actually took the time to mail it back and paid for postage) wrote, "Don't bring your hipster crap here. We don't want you."
