Erm, don't you know of a more TECHNICAL way of doing that...?

This morning I saw two guys painting double yellow lines at the edge of the road...with a BRUSH! And they were using a PLANK as a ruler so they got their lines straight! People in the cars & bus in the adjacent traffic jam were laughing at them.

Don't they normally use a machine to do this? Give yr examples of things you've seen being done the hard way....

of course you may be of the saboteur (in the original sense), Luddite, grr-you're-talking-abt-people's-jobs persuasion....

This actually sounds like its the easy way.

Yeah, when they were building the new underpass at work there were basically two guys with a paintbrush trying to do white lines freehand. The completed cycle route divider is unsurprisingly wonky.

But sometimes the more technical way is not necessarily better...

Compared with pushing a modified wheelbarrow along?

There's a problem with some big harddrives where the read head starts to stick to things, and the recommended solution is to hold it a foot over a flat surface and drop it.

modified wheelbarrow, or indeed a powered vehicle! I suppose its largely dependent on the stretch of road they were expected to cover..."We want you to reach the coast by nightfall...OR YOU DON'T GET PAID!"

I hope they'd had their Weetabix....

"well, sor, the can of paint kept getting further away"

this reminds me a little of that Simpsons where Homer is watching how bowling alley pins are made

That is the modern high-tech way. They used to have to use their own toothbrushes.
