donut bitch (donut), Friday, 11 July 2003 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

so which unnamed cia source is in this story, the 'we told him not to put that limey shite in there' guy or the 'no no, it's cool man, the company always proofreads'

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 23:36 (twenty-two years ago)

ie. what spin motivation is at play: the 'cover our ass' instinct or the 'never admit we don't really have the president's ear, especially when rummy's creating his own intel force to replace us'?

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess I could stop being a prick and read the story and find out for myself

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

option b!

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

so did Bushco keep Tenet around post 9/11 cuz they figured 'hey, it's always good to have a handy fall guy ready'?

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't you love how they've managed to boil down the whole issue of starting a war based on lies and distortions to "These 16 words"? Way to redefine the issue.

JesseFox (JesseFox), Friday, 11 July 2003 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Whatever works!

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm still not tired of saying i told you so.

that last post of mine was rather belligerent.
what i meant to say was i am not the least bit surprised. it's quite obvious that the decision to invade was made and set in stone before the public ever heard about it. and the presentation of evidence was reflective of that, i find. most of the "proof" we saw from the american govt would never stand up in any court – basically hearsay. then stretched and spun untill it would conform with americas desires. i doubt we're going to see any u.s. sources piont out more errors (as it would be unpatroitic) but hopefully the uk may do some more digging – check a source or something.

dyson (dyson), Saturday, 12 July 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

" i doubt we're going to see any u.s. sources piont out more errors (as it would be unpatroitic)" - haha, dyson you're completely unaware of how gotcha politics work (love of the get/party trumps love of country everytime). how it impacts public opinion has more to do with iraq future tense than iraq past tense.

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 12 July 2003 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

i was thinking more in regards to the media.

dyson (dyson), Saturday, 12 July 2003 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

see: "love of the get"

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 13 July 2003 01:42 (twenty-two years ago)

that said, Republicans have caught on to the Clinton model 'wait it out' response, knowing after two news cycles (three max) the story begins to evolve into 'why are the Democrats still harping on this?' ie. post-90s (post-impeachment esp.), scandals are more likely to end up backfiring on the hunter than to capture the game.

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 13 July 2003 01:44 (twenty-two years ago)

(that, or foster a cynicism that plays right into Republican hands at the ballot box)

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 13 July 2003 01:46 (twenty-two years ago)

scandals are more likely to end up backfiring on the hunter
then why did the republicans win thelast election¿

dyson (dyson), Sunday, 13 July 2003 07:08 (twenty-two years ago)

exactly - despite enron, the republicans take the 02 midterms, defying history. despite lewinsky, the democrats take the 00 midterms, defying history. the american public's all scandalled out, and as a result more likely to get angry at the person doing the prosecutin than the one doing the perpetratin.

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 13 July 2003 07:42 (twenty-two years ago)

replace "00 midterms" with "98 midterms" obv.

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 13 July 2003 09:58 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmmm...

Kerry (dymaxia), Sunday, 13 July 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

considering how bizarro cw this thing has played out (the more heat Tenet takes, the more secure his job becomes cuz hey, less heat for Bush)(remember when the fall guy actually had to take a fall?) you gotta wonder who leaked this. the story-a-day-a-thon (fallout from the instincts at play I noted up top) is getting pretty interesting. this thing might have legs!

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 13 July 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

One of the Senate Intelligence Committee drones (Repub. division) was quoted today about how somebody in the CIA was clearly doing all this to damage the president. I suspect Mill*r, indirectly.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 13 July 2003 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

It gets stupider.
