this has never happened from a clonk on the head like in the beano, but after sneezing yes, sometimes

What do they look like?

Are they the sort of stars that you see when you close yer eyes and press on your eyelids?

Do they twinkle and move, or other optical illusions? Tell me about these stars.

Pressure behind the eye caused by the sneezing maybe?

Is it true that your eyes would pop out if you sneezed without shutting them?

Yes, and your soul escapes, too. Be careful of the Debbil when you sneeze!

I saw the Big Dipper tonight outside the club in Berkeley.

Two or three times a year I get a half-hour spell of seeing stars everywhere (but without any sneezing being involved) - also the air takes on a wobbly appearance, as if I was underwater. Don't know what causes it - there's no discomfort involved so I've never bothered having it checked out.

You saw stars in the Bay Area? I thought they had too much light pollution, and that was why they wanted to move the telescope. Wow.

I hate light pollution. I went 6 years in NYC without ever seeing a star.

When I go wobbly, I don't see stars. But I do get grey-outs. If I stand up too quickly, every now and then, my vision will just go completely grey. It creeps in from my peripheral vision like a camera lense being shut, and then it clears in the opposite direction. I think it's related to the anaemia as I tend to get it more when I'm feeling faint.

they are little dancy points of light, as in "blimey i am seeing stars"

HSA has hundreds of books on this sort of phenomena and illusions and perception and the like. But, erm, I don't have a clue. I'm reckoning either some kind of synesthesia - that your nerve signals are getting scrambled on the way to yer brain so that the nasal explosion turns up as random static (interpreted as stars) in your vision interpreting circuits.

Or maybe it is indeed internal pressure on your eyeballs?

So my bizarre theory turned out to be right after all.

kate (kate), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I often get little things that look like tiny worms wriggling around, if i press on my eyelid or something. It's funny.

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, I reckon they are cells.

I love the stars, and there is too much light pollution.
