Cos I'm just off to pop the kettle on.

Alex K (Alex K), Thursday, 17 July 2003 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll have a T,please Bob....

Eugene Speed (Eugene Speed), Thursday, 17 July 2003 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

As I mentioned yesterday, we need to get matter transference over IP sorted.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 17 July 2003 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

if its earl grey, yes please!

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 17 July 2003 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Tea, no, but if we don't get some fresh coffee in here, my crankiness quotient is going to go over acceptible parameters.

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

funny, just before i spotted this thread i said to a colleague, "I reallyy feel like drinking good iced tea now..." and kate... you... cranky... i've never heard of such a thing ;-)

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh tea for me purlease! And for the love of god, someone please get Kate a coffee!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

yes please. earl grey would be lovely! and kate, i thought you were making espresso?

Chris Radford (Chris Radford), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not ALWAYS cranky. Sheesh. On Friday, between engaging in some particularly entertaining bits of flippancy on ILX, I was walking around the office with a massive grin on my face as I concocted my next riposte. My boss immediately stopped me and demanded "WHAT'S WRONG!?!! WHAT'S HAPPENED?!?!?!?"

Like it was so astonishing that I was in a good mood. Humph.

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:12 (twenty-two years ago)

i winked kate - my mornings wouldn't be the same without us good-naturedly annoying each other

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

(I know. I am only exaggerating my cranky old curmudgeon routine for the purposes of humour.)

THOUGH THEY SHOULD GET SOME GODDAMN COFFEE IN THIS OFFICE, STAT!!!

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone here a plumber?

Alex K (Alex K), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

THOUGH THEY SHOULD GET SOME GODDAMN COFFEE IN THIS OFFICE, STAT!!!

I warned you folx! ;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone here a plumber?

Shouldn't that be on the sexual innuendo thread?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, what it is, is like, plumbers always have sugar in tea. Always. Fact of life. You know, it's "you want sugar mate?" Oh yeah ta, just the seven. I was just askin' if any of you guys are plumbers, like whether you take sugar in tea.

Alex K (Alex K), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

That's true.

I'll have Lapsang Souchong. Mmmm, bacon.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Do what now?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i had chai today instead of coffee at lunchtime and i felt good alllll afternoon :)

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

ugh some idiot in my office has just made me tea with some kind of Guardian-reading, sandal-wearing, caffeine-free substitute - it's disgusting... why do vegans/health-food types never eat/drink anything that's what it's supposed to be... i can understand the not eating animals/animal proucts thing but tea is a plant and it tastes better than this filth...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Be careful. You may be making fun of freak tea now, but like HSA, you may find yourself picking up a taste for it.

I drink "freak tea" after about 6pm, because if I have caffeine too late then I get excited and I do not sleep. HSA used to make fun of my "freak tea" saying that it was rats urine and brown sugar. Until he decided that he liked the smell of it, and wanted to try it. (Chamomile and Honey, extremely yummy.) Now he is hooked. Mwah hah hah hah!

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

And you are now a poet!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

(I love how Guardian-Reader is just a catch-all insult for cardigan-wearing, sandal-shoed, Radio 4-listening, Archers-following, herbal tea-drinking, windowbox-gardening FREAK.)

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it tatooed in the back of my neck or something.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

If I didn't think it would slow down the server, I'd post a facetious link to the "corporate logos you would have tattooed on your body thread" and add The Guardian/Ed connection there.

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Talking of window boxes I finally found the ones I want, plus a book on growing herbs and evegatbles on the window sill.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i like herb tea, especially that real tangy covent garden orange one and the lemon and ginger one, but this is just a piss-poor attempt at imitating tea... (it's probably even worse with soya milk). just drink the real thing you great ponces, it won't kill you... my granddad drank the stuff for 96 years!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

You are not a real Guardian-Reader, though, Ed, as you do not RECYCLE your Guardians. Tied up in nice, organic, non-nylon twine, of course.

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Recylcling paper is pointless, the energy benefit doesn't add up and you get a better carbon benefit from landfilling paper, coupled with sustainably managed forests.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 17 July 2003 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

guardian readers actually aren't all that eco or hippy, they're more often than not middle-management professionals who drive volvos and live in the 'burbs...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 17 July 2003 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

(I knew he was going to say that. Which only makes him more of a Guardian-Reading Freak.)

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

get a coffee kate...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 17 July 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

2PM... need.. coffee... zzzzzzz

robster (robster), Thursday, 17 July 2003 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

They still have done nothing about this "no coffee" situation. I might be reduced to... ::shudders:: tea.

Tea in the workplace is so unacceptible. I'll take instant coffee before I take tea at work. Speaking of which, there is a jar of Nescafe next to the coffeemaker. Am I really desperate enough to go there?

I think yes... my Guardian readership shall be revoked...

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone in London suffering from low water pressure? We rang the water board (or whatever the're called in these modern times) and they said it was across a lot of london. not here at work though.

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 17 July 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably a rat stuck in a valve somewhere.Or a crocodile,if you read the Daily Sport.....

Eugene Speed (Eugene Speed), Thursday, 17 July 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I would like some sun tea, please.

I only really like to drink hot tea when I'm sick or it's cold out. And when I do, I tend to drink FREAK tea. I especially like orange spice.

Sarah MCLusky (coco), Thursday, 17 July 2003 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

No water problems here (Marble Arch)

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 17 July 2003 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Tee hee, I love Freak Tea. :-)

But ugh. Meanwhile back on Planet Suck... rather than face cold turkey, I am sucking down a cup of Nescafe. Is this how heroin addicts taking methadone feel? It staves off the caffeine withdrawl but it doesn't give me that KICK of WHEE I COULD ENTER INVOICES ALL THE DOO-DAH DAY!!! that real coffee after lunch does.

Though I'm not quite so predisposed towards lying down under my desk and taking a nap as I was.

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

nescafe is v bad on both ideological and taste sensation levels...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 17 July 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

THIS IS HOW DESPERATE I AM!!!

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i feel your pain kate... snort it dry, that's the way forward...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 17 July 2003 12:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I AM POSSIBLY ONLY A FEW INVOICES AWAY FROM THIS!!!

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

HA HA HA HA HAHAAAAAA HAPPY KATE OH FRABJOUS DAY, CALLOO, CALAY!!!

THEY FINALLY GOT SOME COFFEEEEEEEEEE!!!

OK, the Sys Admin looked slightly askance at my suggestion that we didn't have to load it in the coffeemaker at all, that we could just chop lines of it on my desk. But still.

Marked productivity spurt the moment that the coffee hit my system (and ILX Poxy Fuled for an hour, but that's besides the point...)

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate needs a hug.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 17 July 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

You could hug me if you could peel me off the ceiling. This isn't as bad as when Barry and I double-dog-dared each other to do multiple shots of Starbucks Frappucinos and floated back to HSA's place, but it's pretty close.

BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!!

kate (kate), Thursday, 17 July 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't know how people can drink fucking Nescafe. The only thing instant about it is my resultant headache after downing it.

Alex K (Alex K), Thursday, 17 July 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

now you've had your coffee kate you may notice that this thread is actually about tea!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 17 July 2003 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i have 1 and a half sugars in my tea, and soy milk. i enjoy the old herbal too, i'm stuck on echinacea at the moment cos i don't want to catch a cold.

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I am currently drinking tea. Yorkshire Gold, no sugar. No sleep for me tonight.

Matt (Matt), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

would you like some tea?

The different kinds of tea that cats like

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 18 July 2003 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, but who in their right mind would go to Starfucks and actually give them more money?

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:14 (twenty-two years ago)

BUT NOW WE ARE OUT OF STAPLES?!?!?

Now there I CAN help you!! staples for everyone!
Please can I go for a frappucino with you, i love them! *ducks*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkpanther, I want to come and work in your office instead of mine. There would always be staples, there would always be milk, and we'd have frappucinos every day! Hooray!

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't forget seeing deers in the grounds of the converted stately home that I work in!!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

So it maybe a little twee, but it's gotta be nicer than just seeing hoards of people & traffic!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

and they had a selection of coffee in thermoss dispensers there one decaffienated (which i really see no point in as my so-called continental blend doesn't even have enough caffeine in it to help me get properly angry about it tasting so blasted rotten), one continental blend (the one that's causing my bad mood) another one with a kinda exotic name and a "fair trade" one. it struck me when i left that making a virtue of said "fair trade" coffee only highlights the ethical fucktitude of the rest of their range. bad for the world and tastes like urine: a pox on you starbucks!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Stately Homes = ROXOR!!! HSA's mum and I both share a Country House Visiting fanaticism.

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, but who in their right mind would go to Starfucks and actually give them more money?

yes, yes, yes i see the error of my ways but it was a case of having to after having bad coffee this morning. it backfired. i feel used and dirty... go on, gloat away...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not gloating dave. I'm just... disappointed...

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:24 (twenty-two years ago)

SO AM I!!!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

on so many levels...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know, I just hoped, maybe even expected, so much more...

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Would you prefer that we drank Nescafe? I mean, really.

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Starbucks roolz! *ducks*

DISCLAIMER: this was meant as a joke & should by no means entitle any reader to injure, maim or kill the joker.

Frappucinos rock! *stands proud*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

kate, hey, I'm not a sadist you know, sister.

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkie, you and I is gonna have big problems if you continue to big up those donkeys. I won't make you a tea later so nerr.

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:34 (twenty-two years ago)

nescafe = ethically screwed, tastes bad but can be snorted in its dry form = better than starbucks

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Even better than the Frappucinos are the ice-tumbled double espresso shots with cream. This is what Barry and I were daring each other to shoot the other day. HSA was laughing at how we kept talking faster and faster and faster and our eyes were bugging out.

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkie, you and I is gonna have big problems if you continue to big up those donkeys. I won't make you a tea later so nerr.

Ok, I promise not to anymore, I hate them already! *crosses fingers*

Kate - when we gonna go for a coffee session, that sounds like loadsa fun!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Next time we play a gig in or near Cambridge, yer on! Buzz buzz buzz buzzz buzzzzzzzzz!

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll drink you under the table (or up to the ceiling) kate...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay!! bbbbbbbbuuuuuuuuuzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:27 (twenty-two years ago)

you can tell that many of you work in london - i mean, real coffee at work? starbucks IN yr work?

try having a cost-co oil drum full of maxwell house - feel the pain suckas!!!!!!

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh dear. A coffee drinking contest. I've had one of these once before in my life. We had to end it when my then-BF's veins started sticking out of his forehead and throbbing so bad we thought we might have to call an ambulance. We invented a new god called MOCHA JAVA and made an idol out of paper bags and Reese peanut butter cup wrappers. Actually, it was brilliant. Though it scared the shit out of his housemates to come in and find us seated round this thing bowing and chanting MOCHA JAVA MOCHA JAVA MOCHA JAVA...

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Erm Kate, I don't think I can make that coffee session now!!! *runs & hides* ;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

You would have liked him! He was a bit twee! I mean, he was made out of CANDY WRAPPERS!!! How twee can you get? ;-)

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm not doing that... where was the single best cup you ever had though?

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I am scared.

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

You can never be TOO twee. Now repeat until you know it off by heart! jeez!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

The best cup of coffee I ever had in my life was at a vegetarian cafe in Amsterdam. Organic coffee, very strong, with cream, and sweetened with honey. MY GOD, WAS THAT YUMMY!!!

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

a cup of coffee made me cry once, it was so good

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave - you need to get out more!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i was in paris, a city i loathe beyond any other apart from los angeles, and had been sent over there to interview a french producer who i liked a lot at the time (and still do on a musical level) and he had been the biggest pain in the arse. i had to do the interview in french had been buggered about all weekend to the point i didn't think it was going to happen, then got it done IN FRENCH and had a taxi driver take me back to the shit hotel i had been put up in pretending not to understand a word of what i was saying and then asking for his fare in perfect english (tete de merde!!!), went to the gig that was on that evening to find i had not even been put on the list, went back to my hotel made a phonecall to my then lady and was pretty much dumped so it wasn't exactly a successful trip. however i got up early (with a bit of a hangover as i'd taken respite in booze the previous evening), arrived at the train station desperate to get home, had some time to kill and went and got a coffee from one of the stalls. i sparked up a cigarette and took my first sip and, blast me, in a weekend where everything had gone irretrievably tits-up, if it wasn't the most perfect cafe au lait i have ever tasted. i felt a tear run down my cheek and felt a complete idiot, but hey, that's why...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave, I retract my statement, I am indeed an arse!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

no you're not - you weren't the one crying over the the transcendental beauty of a cup of coffee were you?

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Me thinks that it was a culmination of things!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, guess it was but i've never had a coffee so good either before or since... maybe just context, but hey...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Context is the key always!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah... what was yours anyway? tea or coffee will do ;-)

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 18 July 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooohh, pop the Harvey on will ya somebody.

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Nowt do memorable as that Dave I'm afraid! To be honest I prob couldnt even tell you!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, OK, I'll get it. You in Pink?

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Me in for what? Tea? Always!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

just had pretty bad tea with london-tap-water film of scum on top. whay is everything tasting bad today?

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

You have the Starbucks lurgy.

Alex K (Alex K), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

It is your destiny Dave. I just had a yummy cup of tea with a bounty.
tea + chocolcate = heaven!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

We invented a new god called MOCHA JAVA and made an idol out of paper bags and Reese peanut butter cup wrappers.

I think I've just found a god I could worship.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and I normally drink tea only when I've got sinus problems, but green tea (especially blended with plum blossoms) with lemon and honey is niiiiice.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I wasn't going to have any more caffeine today, but I feel an overwhelming urge to worship at the altar of Mocha Java RIGHT NOW...

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

It is your destiny Dave.

i think it's that dratted context thing (cf the unhappy thread)!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)
