i find his schtick highly amusing. that aeroplane scene from made still makes me chuckle. i also thought he made an excellent host of the late show. rosie perez was putty in his hands!!! how can one man have so much charisma?

your thoughts?

Vince Vaughn rocks the cinematic idol casbah! I love him!

I get him and Favreau(?) mixed up. Who's who?

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Thursday, 17 July 2003 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

he was great in swingers, but man he was annoying in Made. I realize that was the point, and he accomplished that point very well, enought that I wanted to slug him and/or shut off the film.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Thursday, 17 July 2003 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw him on Letterman and he was being an absolute fucking tool about how he went to england and was chewing gum in BUCKINGHAM palace and the guards got kind of shirty and then he got all uppity about the Marshall plan ....and the audience went wild.
fucking asshole.

Nellie (nellskies), Friday, 18 July 2003 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I dig him. I used to want to be him when Swingers came out. I failed.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

He was far too effective in Made - he was just such an idiot that it was almost impossible to watch. (The entire film played like the brilliant but excrutiating answerphone sequence in Swingers - but for two hours).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

made was blah, except for a few scenes. I liked the hotel scene "this is how we do" and the very beginning "she wants to fuck me".

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 18 July 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

He was pretty good in 'Old School'!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

ah yes. But he has made some horrible movies since swingers. that piece of garbage with travolta, that one with anne heche. Has anyone noticed that Jon Favreau has become Gutter again from PCU. The man has ballooned.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Vince Vaughan is a funny guy. He was good in Return to Paradise, which I really liked (a real old-fashioned DRAMA).

two years pass...
vince vaughn is about to make a movie with david o russell, this is whathe says about it:

Did he initially write it with you in mind?

He wrote it... It was an idea he had prior to me and then I think he's sort of personalising it as I've talked to him about what I want to do. So, it's becoming more specific, yeah. I play a 60s gym teacher in Bangor, Maine and I work with a bunch of different schoolgirls who are tired of laughing at what the boys say and want to make some jokes of their own.

which is total bollocks, i think: it's about a radio dj. i like vince vaughn.

i like him too. i think it's because of wedding crashers. or because he seems to drink a lot.

carly (carly), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 12:06 (twenty years ago)

Wedding Crashers: Classic performance in so-so movie. He did tell some magazine that The Fountainhead was his favourite book, which is a bit of a dealbreaker for me, but nobody's perfect.

Anyone see Brawl in Cell Block 99? As a fan of the director's Bone Tomahawk, i dug the first hour, but it got a little too bleak and comic-splattery for me after that.

VV is quite good; beats up a car 10 minutes in.

one month passes...

so having just seen brawl in cell block 99, s craig zahler’s m.o. really is a long slow buildup to a third act filled with horrible violence huh

I've never much liked him in anything, and what I've heard about his present political leanings does nothing to endear him to me any further, but he's actually pretty great in Freaky, doing sort of a contemporary teen girl spin on Steve Martin's Lily Tomlin in All of Me. The film itself is pretty decent as well, though probably more successful as a comedy than a horror film--depending on which metrics you use to evaluate these things, of course (the movie didn't scare me, and even its ample gore is pretty cartoonish). A pleasant surprise.

I enjoyed the movie, and Vaughan’s flouncing, too, though iirc there was some dissent on ILX

bobo honkin' slobo babe (sic), Sunday, 1 August 2021 23:26 (four years ago)

Just watched this tonight, was also pleasantly surprised by it. (The girl was very good, too, especially when she was the killer in disguise.)

but also fuck you (unperson), Monday, 2 August 2021 00:57 (four years ago)

Agreed. The entire, mostly young cast is generally strong.

The female best friend is given only one trait—P.C. scold—but the gay kid suggests that the character has dimensions beyond his quips.
