James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 17 July 2003 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Somebody teach this uncoordinated gay man how to care about football. I mean, apart from the lycra and all.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 17 July 2003 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I cannot turn your face into a heart.

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 17 July 2003 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Somebody teach this unreconstructed English man how to care about football. I mean, apart from the violence and all.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Thursday, 17 July 2003 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

sigh I'm outta here

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 17 July 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Poor Blount. I will drink beer with you during games but if it wasn't for the beer then I couldn't be arsed.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 17 July 2003 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

college game

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 17 July 2003 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm with ya Blount; you too Millar. Screw hoops and MLB for a while: I'm NFLing it up until, y'know, the playoffs start, or until the Blazers pick up someone like Todd McCullough or Suge Knight or something.

Actually, any team with Suge Knight as their power forward would go 82-0.

Neudonym, Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

jake plummer will be a complete bust, duane carswell will be arrested five more times. joey harrington to charles rogers best combo since manning and harrison?

keith (keithmcl), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I respect your interest in the whole gridiron thing but IT'S FUCKING JULY

Hello! Big Thighs For The Gay Guys!

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Also I live in Minnesota and hearing all these Norske Fargo accents talking about football is like living in that SNL "DA BEARSSS" sketch all bloody winter

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

If I ever decide to give a rat's ass about a professional sport again, it's gonna be (American) football. But I'm not quite ready yet.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, seriously, to answer Michael's question...

do you like any competitive pro sports? If so, which one? If not, why do you think not?

(haha, making Daddino a pigskin junkie is now MY QUEST!)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

any sport is enjoyable when watched with friends and beer. I only like the art of basketball; the art of other sports I can't be bothered with.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 18 July 2003 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

also: GO PACERS!

teeny (teeny), Friday, 18 July 2003 00:04 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm excited cause we get a full season of chad pennington this year. remember -- TAD IS ROOTING FOR A JETS V. GIANTS SUPERBOWL, AND SO SHOULD YOU!

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 18 July 2003 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

and if you aren't, YOU A FASSYMAN GEEK INTO CHICHI SEX

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 18 July 2003 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

neither of those teams will make the playoffs : )

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

my son decided in December to become obsessed about the Packers (he's four, it's a preschool thing), so this year I get to sit home every Sunday afternoon and watch football with him and call it bonding. oh I love my life.

plus we got akili smith now so PLEASE GOD (and I say this as a Ducks fan) KEEP FAVRE HEALTHY

Neudonym, Friday, 18 July 2003 03:21 (twenty-two years ago)

oh god - that's where akili ended up?

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 03:22 (twenty-two years ago)

o yeah baby. you KNOW we got the juice now.

Neudonym, Friday, 18 July 2003 03:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, you American suckers, Canadian football has been on the go for weeks! muahha

Sadly though our mens team bowed out of the Gold Cup without even getting past Cuba for fuck sakes.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 18 July 2003 03:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Jets v. Giants Super Bowl would result in the complete destruction of NYC, you realize correct?

I have disowned the Buffalo Bills.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

cuz of that time Vincent Gallo took you to meet his parents?

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm already in two fantasy leagues!!!

Falcons next year. Still not enough talent around Vick.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Why have I suddenly become an item with Vincent Gallo? That's so high school! James, I'm surprised you didn't jump on the J. Plummer reference upthread.

Yancey, you spend all your time on fantasy sports.

Hey, did anyone pick up Jason Seawhore?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Sehorn went to the Rams, I believe?

I hardly spend anytime on fantasy sports! I draft my teams and then I forget about them. It's just my way.

Bengals win 7 games this year.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Sewhore's a Ram now - I think they made him a safety maybe

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no idea who wins the Super Bowl. Oakland takes the AFC West again, Jets-Bills-Dolphins battle for AFC East title and the Steelers take the Central yet again. In the NFC it'll be the Skins, Vikings (!!!) and 49ers.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Yancey post your team! here's mine

QB - Mike Vick, Marc Bulger
RB - Marshall Faulk, Corey Dillon, Trung Canidate, Amos Zereoue
WR - Eric Moulds, Peerless Price, Jerry Porter, Josh Reed, Ashley Lelie
TE - Chad Lewis

K - Jason Elam

DEF - Miami, San Diego

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

God, why would anyone pick up Seahorse? He's the absolute worst. All he does is stand on the sidelines and wink and look purdy. WTF kind of athlete is that? At least Derek Jeter actually can play his sport.

Actually, thinking of baseball now, it's exactly like the Benitez trade--wtf are the Yankees thinking? Benitez is the absolute worst relief pitcher out there, short of like maybe if I was a relief pitcher. Did the Mets offer them some magic beans or something as well? That's the only way that decision makes any sense. He's part of the reason why the Mets lost to the Yankees in the World Series! That and the Yankees being better!

(I really haven't disowned the Bills but I'm still hella pissed about the whole Flutie debacle...oh for the good days when I was 10 and it was the Jim Kelly show)

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

last year I picked the Vikes to take the central and my dad harumphed and said 'they won't make the playoffs' and NEVER LET ME FORGET IT

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Ugh, James, have I told you my story about my dad and the '91 Super Bowl? :(

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

no

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The Vikes got hot at the end of the year and I think Culpepper might finally get back in form. Bennett might be out for the year though.

My draft ain't for a while. It's a keeper league, and I didn't even remember who I had last year! (I tuned out about week 7) But it looks like my best keeper prospects (I keep two doods) are Bledsoe and Green. Which is so-so.

I think the Rams picked up Seahorn so there can be a Rivarly of NFL Wives between Angie Harmon and Kurt Warner's DykeWife.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally = Vincent Gallo shockah!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

This is urgent & key:

http://espn.go.com/page2/s/simmons/030710.html

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

tell me that's not Trent Green

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

No no no. Ahman Green.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

The list of players my commissioner gave me:

D. Bledsoe
J. Plummer
A. Green
C. Dillon
Antwain Smith
Keyshawn Johnson
Hines Ward

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd be a little worried about Bledsoe - that offense faded hard last year (ha - sez the man who drafted two Bills receivers)

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Price is a Falcon now, dude!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

JOSH REED!

I'd probably take Green and Dillon out of that group

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously, wtf is up with the Vincent Gallo thing?

Anyway, ok, '91 Super Bowl, when that season started my dad started prancing around like fucking Criswell announcing that the Bills and the Giants would face each other and the Giants would win and--here is the keyest part--they'd win by 1 point. He actually said this, not making it up. So of course everyone's like, ok, whatever, shut up about that already, we don't care about your novel ideas. Me, being a 10 year old Bills fan, told him he was full of crap (not quite like that) and was going all bitchcakes for the Bills.

Of course, they end up playing each other. And of course, Scott Norwood is the fucking suxor who ruined my entire childhood, yadda yadda yadda.

It is now twelve years later and my dad still reminds me, every time I trump him in football knowledge which is like all the time these days cos he's gone senile, that I was wrong and he was scarily right. Still! WTF?

That part in that article about one of the Cowboys being assaulted or shot cracked me up, btw. This makes me a bad person.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha! I'm so out of it roster-wise right now. Yeah, I was trying to decide between Dillon and Bledsoe. And strangely, I'm a Bengals fan.

Bills are MUCH MUCH MUCH better now with Takeo Spikes. Dude's seriously underrated.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

HAHAHA!

Late August:

...Arizona is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs..

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, what's up w/the Seahawks' ugly ass uniforms? Or is this old news & just that I haven't watched them play for over a decade?

I just read Wiley. "Jet fans will have a great year -- long as they don't mind rooting for the Washington Redskins." HAHAHA! September 4th, Monday night, I'm ready for some football..

daria g (daria g), Thursday, 14 August 2003 00:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Martin Sheen is their coach now. I don't know, Snyder figured there must be some way to pour more $$$ into the team.

daria g (daria g), Thursday, 14 August 2003 00:23 (twenty-two years ago)

wiley's worse than hunter thompson these days.

vick IS overrated. at vt he was always an underacheiver. five amazing plays a game, the rest inconsistent. that's what his nfl career has been so far. i'm just ready for him to overcome that hump. (he's the nfl's yao ming)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 14 August 2003 01:11 (twenty-two years ago)

His "career" = 1 year!

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 14 August 2003 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

very true. i just have very high expectations for him. i've seen every game his played post-high school! i'm in love with the man!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 14 August 2003 01:52 (twenty-two years ago)

If you love him so much why don't you marry him.

Leee (Leee), Thursday, 14 August 2003 02:11 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread is so grade school.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 14 August 2003 02:48 (twenty-two years ago)

SHUT UP COOTIE GIRL.

Leee (Leee), Thursday, 14 August 2003 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sad I didn't click on it before. Here I thought it would be about football. . .

Texas Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 14 August 2003 03:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Nothing's about anything and everything's about something different. It's ILE!

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 14 August 2003 03:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm excited cause we get a full season of chad pennington this year.

-- Tad (llamasfu...), July 18th, 2003 12:00 AM. (llamasfur) - this thread's like the si curse squared

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Have my draft Monday night. Still haven't really studied a lick, but I'll be a'ight. My beloved Lions finish the pre-season at 2-2.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Friday, 29 August 2003 03:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Perhaps the Jets could get Chester Bennington to play quarterback instead.

daria g (daria g), Friday, 29 August 2003 05:29 (twenty-two years ago)

there goes the season ... does vinny have another quality year left in him?

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 29 August 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
So, Tad...

Who should I root for now?

Sir Leee (Leee), Monday, 29 September 2003 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Look at my Vikes prediction! Blount too!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

My offer to bandwagon to new It-team just another example of 49er awfulness?

Sir Leee (Leee), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

why do the Bears suck so much? :(

they have essentially the same team they did two years ago when they went like 12-4...

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

cuz that year the a-train was actually good, and the rest was luck

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, our high-profile skill-position draft picks have all been busts. Rashaan Salaam, Curtis Enis, Cade McNown, David Terrell, and the jury's still out on A-Train... Owell.

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 29 September 2003 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a salaam bears jersey!

cinniblount (James Blount), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

did it fall apart the first time you wore it?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

ALONZO SPELLMAN
REX GROSSMAN

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

don't forget they traded a first rounder for Rick Mirer also

cinniblount (James Blount), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:46 (twenty-two years ago)

it's been downhill since Jimmy Mac and VT alum Will Furrer!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 29 September 2003 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Phil, unfortunately this team is nowhere near the same as that 13-3 team. They lost a ton of playmakers on defense - Tony Parrish, Roosevelt Colvin, Walt Harris, and Ted Washington being the biggest (literally with Washington - haha). On offense they've lost their best receiver, Marcus Robinson, and pro-bowl offensive lineman, Big Cat Williams. They swapped Jim Miller for Kordell Stewart - meh, that's a wash I guess. Anyway, yeah, big big changes in just a couple of years. Welcome to today's NFL.

I'm actually just about to go take a stroll by the new Soldier Field - I live about a ten minute walk away from it - and take in some of the pre-game atmosphere. The whole neighborhood is filled with the smell of lighter fluid right now....

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Monday, 29 September 2003 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I have to admit I haven't been following football as much since the 2001-2002 season, since I was in Asia for the 02-03 season. I had no idea that Washington and Williams were gone - where did they go? Good riddance to Walt Harris though - another first-round bust. Can we get Neal Anderson to come out of retirement?

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 29 September 2003 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

washington's a patsy now

cinniblount (James Blount), Monday, 29 September 2003 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Kurt Warner the new Doug Christie?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1626574

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

this ain't the first time she's done that

cinniblount (James Blount), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

RICK MIRER??? WTF???

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 29 September 2003 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Did you go on a date with him too?!?!?!

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 00:21 (twenty-two years ago)

oh my god, we [the bears] suck

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 00:21 (twenty-two years ago)

that play was positively Detroit Lion-like.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Contrary to popular belief, I have not gone on a date with every shit NFL qb ever.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

PARIS HILTON!!! LOOK! Paris Hilton is on Monday Night Football!

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 00:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn, she's hot. I've never seen her before.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

17-0!!!!!!!!!!!

(only just put on game, sorry)

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

HA! 17-3 now, bitches.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 01:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I'm sure Green Bay just pissed their pants.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 01:15 (twenty-two years ago)

"why do the Bears suck so much?"

Because Mike McCaskey is a cheap bastard and they have NEVER had an offensive coordinator or head coach that has an original idea on how to move the ball.

I grew up watching the Bears and Bengals every week until the Colts moved to Indy, then it was the Bears and Colts. Being a fan that watched these three teams has provided great insight into existential thought.

At least the Colts are generally fun to watch since Manning joined the club. They looked this good a couple of years ago and then everybody got hurt and they turned to major suck, I so hope it doesn't happen again.

earlnash, Tuesday, 30 September 2003 01:22 (twenty-two years ago)

c'mon - "give the ball to the fridge" is an original idea on how to move the ball

cinniblount (James Blount), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 01:23 (twenty-two years ago)

That is just a subset of the plan, "give the ball to Walter", which through his great talent worked pretty well.

earlnash, Tuesday, 30 September 2003 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I blame John Shoop.

hstencil, Tuesday, 30 September 2003 04:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Kurt Warner's wife kinda looks like a transvestite hooker

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 04:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no idea who the heck Nick Bakay is, but that betting segment he and his wife do on SportsCenter is just freakin' hilarious!!

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 05:23 (twenty-two years ago)
