rush limbaugh is going to be a football commentator on ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown."

Tad (llamasfur), Thursday, 17 July 2003 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

he was angling for the mnf job a few year back when they underwent their dennis miller experiment. limbaugh and hannity will usually portray themselves as broadcasters first and ideologues second (somewhat accurately)(definitely in terms of background at least)(har har - like Reagan)

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 17 July 2003 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

in theory can't be any worse than those incredibly awkward Madden spots.

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 17 July 2003 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

what's scary is that it sounds like they're trying to inject an element of that max kellerman show into sunday nfl countdown.

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 17 July 2003 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

he's not fat anymore.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 17 July 2003 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought this was an England hooligan thread!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 18 July 2003 06:31 (twenty-two years ago)

it can be if you want it to ... that topic might have more juice than the one in the header!

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 18 July 2003 06:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought this was an England hooligan thread!

Me too. Will England get chucked out of Euro 2004 because of the pond-life element? I think there's a real chance (and part of me thinks it would be a good thing).

(Speaking to a bloke the other day who's been following England abroad since before Italia 90 and he reckons the normal human being/fascist scum ratio in the travelling support is about 50/50.)

James Ball (James Ball), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I've heard that ratio too, and it's a crying shame. I still think there's going to be mayhem in Turkey.

chris (chris), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I blame WFAN for all this loud shouty controversial stoopidheaded nonsensical sportstalk horseshit (Pardon the Interruption being the only thing birthed from this asscrap that's worth a damn). Mike and the Mad Dog in particular, if they want, can bite on deez nutz. Chris Rose & Fox Sports Net ain't even worth a slim curly little hair off said nutz. Yeah, that's right.

Replacing Bill Parcells w/ Rush Limbaugh = I am going to weep for the sins of the world every Sunday. And replacing Sterling Sharpe with Michael Irving = I have another reason to sleep until 1 PM (4 PM if the only early game involves the Giants).

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:32 (twenty-two years ago)

And here I thought this thread was about Combat 18.

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

GOOD FUCKING LORD?!!! - they're replacing Sterling Sharpe with Michael Irvin?!!!

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

that, I don't think I can handle

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

PTI is easily the only "it's talk radio - but on tv!" show remotely worth watching

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:34 (twenty-two years ago)

ohmifuckinggod - I cannot handle Michael Irvin replacing Sterling Sharpe

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

jesus h christ

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

JESUS H CHRIST

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought this thread was going to be about Silvio Berlusconi.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I am eyeing razor blades and bathtubs right now

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:38 (twenty-two years ago)

popshots, dude -- if you think the FAN is bad, you've never heard the WIP (philly's version of the FAN). mike & maddog sound SANE compared to the motherfuckers on the fan (though one should expect that, philly being the city that booed santa and all that)!

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:39 (twenty-two years ago)

motherfuckers on the WIP (i meant)

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Turkey should be banned from Euro 2004 before England should. But UEFA would not allow emerging nations in international football to be held back like that (hence recent let-offs for Slovakia and Georgia despite intense racist abuse and hostility towards visiting spectators and players).

stevem (blueski), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:24 (twenty-two years ago)

As long as no one ditches Neon Deion, I'm alright with any commentator. That man knows how to dress.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 18 July 2003 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Fancy a fat fascist fuck?

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 18 July 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd like a fat fascist duck

stevem (blueski), Friday, 18 July 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm just happy I inadvertently spelled Irvin's name wrong.

Tad, thanks for the heads up, tho I try to avoid sports talk radio as much as possible, unless my friends in the car can't stomach a little of my CD action.

And, wow, Ally's comment just made me realize how goofy the CBS foosball pregame crew is - Deion, Dan Marino, and Boomer Esaison w/ Jim Nantz? That shit makes _The Other Half_ look as sensical and natural-looking as _Regis & Kathie Lee_ (y'know, excepting all the back stage catfighting & Giff jealousy).

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 18 July 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

WHere is Sharpe going? Somebody give him a coaching gig or something?

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Friday, 18 July 2003 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

This sort of crap would never happen on Baseball Tonight.

Is this supposed to be surprising? The NFL is made by, of, and for fat, fascist fucks. Will someone explain to me why the NFL even has a player's union? What the fuck is a "non-guaranteed" contract? "Here negro, sign this and we 'promise' to pay you a hundred million dollars (until we decide to cut you)." The players in the NFL are just a bunch of show cattle. Keep your shirt tucked in and your helmet on or we'll fine you. The NFL isn't about players; it's about the NFL and it's about keeping Vegas happy. Jimmy the Greek said too much and was beheaded. Al Davis turned a beautiful, publically-owned baseball stadium into a concrete-brutalist temple to himself and is suing the city of Oakland for 1 billion dollars for the privilege. They lied to him. Of course they lied to him; he had a football team! Can't have a city witout a football team! Can't have an Oakland without the motherfucking Raiders! Oakland can't even afford to pay its teachers; where are they supposed to come up with 1 billion dollars? I'll start caring about the NFL the minute all the players go on strike forever.

BTW, What has Sterling Sharpe done on that show that would make him so irreplaceable? At least Irvin's got the whole manaical whacked-out-on-coke thing going for him.

I would watch Ron Jaworski dissect film for 3 hours, but other than that what good are any of these shows?

Kris (aqueduct), Friday, 18 July 2003 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

ron jaworski does rule, i agree.

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 18 July 2003 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

yawn

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Friday, 18 July 2003 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

two months pass...
schadenfreude is soooooo sweet

Little Big Macher (llamasfur), Thursday, 2 October 2003 04:23 (twenty-two years ago)

and i take back the mean things i said upthread about the WIP ... which, apparently, played no small role in getting Fatfuck shitcanned.

DO NOT FUCK WITH PHILLY!

Little Big Macher (llamasfur), Thursday, 2 October 2003 04:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I have to say the changes espn enacted have worked out much better than I could've dreamed - irvin's been much better than he was on fox, and limbaugh gets humiliated and comes off as a huge idiot to anyone who knows anything about football.

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 2 October 2003 04:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I still wanna know what the heck ever happened to Sterling? Is he just counting his money or something? He's the only Sharpe I can stand!

I'm sorry, JB but Irvin's just BAD.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 2 October 2003 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm gonna have to call up those members of my family in Philly who are both right-wing and Eagles fans, just to see what they have to say about Limbaugh's comments. they may be republicans, but their iggle-love (and their McNabb love -- he came within a game of getting the Eagles into the Super Bowl last year, AND THAT'S A BIG FRIGGIN' DEAL DOWN THERE!) trumps any dittohead tendencies that they might have.

they never let me live down the Richie Kotite-becomes-the-Jet-headcoach fiasco, though.

Little Big Macher (llamasfur), Thursday, 2 October 2003 04:52 (twenty-two years ago)

oh I'm still not crazy about irvin, just that's he's been ALOT better than he was on fox and alot better than I thought he'd be. I though I wouldn't be able to watch the show anymore. I don't think he's any worse than say...bobby valentine on baseball tonight (which is still setting the bar pretty low, but I can deal) I don't know what happened to sterling - I don't know if he was let go or his contract was up and they decided to 'try something different' or what. I thought he did a good job and always assumed when his brother retired he'd slide right in too. all I can figure is they wanted to jazz it up (remember, the same corporate family hired dennis miller for mnf), and thought irvin had more name recognition and notoriety and that throwing rush into the mix also would make it more rambunctious/contentious/like talk radio (plus rush does have a loyal audience that'd follow him)(right now there's a poll about mcnabb re: whether he's overrated and if so why, and something like 15% agree with rush, I'd imagine at least 80% of that 15% is dittoheads thinking they're 'showing their support for rush').

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 2 October 2003 05:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Irvin would be better if he showed up in the fur coat he was wearing when got busted for coke.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Thursday, 2 October 2003 05:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean ... there is no doubt that Irvin is a presence! And I have nothing against the man per se. I just think his opinions are crap. Like, the other night when he was trying to defend Terrell Owens. Yay - the fraternity of egotisitcal Wide Receivers - the most overrated position in football. Whatever.

This BoSox/Oak game is insane.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 2 October 2003 05:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i am ILX's biggest niner hater, but i would defend Terrell Owens insofar as he is very talented. i agree that he's an egotistical asshole, but he's genuinely good.

Little Big Macher (llamasfur), Thursday, 2 October 2003 05:41 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, there is no question he's talented. The best WR the last 3 years, no question about it.

But you don't disrupt the team like he did last weekend. That had NOTHING to do with what was best for the Niners, and EVERYTHING to do with "waaah! waah! Randy is looking better than me!! I wanna look better than Randy! Waaah!!" I mean, grow the fuck up, Terrell.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 2 October 2003 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

there's actually a pretty good randy moss vs. terrell owens debate on the jay-z/nas thread right now

A's WIN! A's WIN!

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 2 October 2003 05:45 (twenty-two years ago)

that was so beautiful!

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 2 October 2003 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

on a BUNT

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 2 October 2003 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

grrrrrr

ejad (daje), Thursday, 2 October 2003 05:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I stayed up till 2:45 for that??

ejad (daje), Thursday, 2 October 2003 05:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate living in New England.

ejad (daje), Thursday, 2 October 2003 05:48 (twenty-two years ago)

throw in this - pop! - and I'm pretty damn happy right now

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 2 October 2003 05:48 (twenty-two years ago)

ha ha ha ... if the phillies couldn't get the wild card, then i don't give a hoot what happens to the stinky red sox! and since the phillies aren't in it, my default is the Yankees.

Little Big Macher (llamasfur), Thursday, 2 October 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Limbaugh is scheduled to speak at a broadcasters convention thursday in... Philadelphia.

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 2 October 2003 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)

oh man, that A's game was GREAT! A's win on a bunt! Haha - they never bunt! Wasn't even a squeeze.

And Foulke goes three strong!! I don't think Foulke's pitched three since like like AA, if that! Unbelievable. Now I GOTTA go to bed...

(man, just saw the replay of the original Rush Countdown segment [which I'd never seen before]; Jackson and Young looked like "who is this moron??!!" Irvin actually looked remarkably calm!)

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 2 October 2003 05:59 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, i'm in philly this (thursday) afternoon! where is this convention being held?!?

Little Big Macher (llamasfur), Thursday, 2 October 2003 06:01 (twenty-two years ago)

this has the earmarks of some serious karmic fun ...

Little Big Macher (llamasfur), Thursday, 2 October 2003 06:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't roll into Philly till late afternoon, though. i was in town yesterday (wednesday) at 1 PM and came home at 11. WHY COULDN'T THIS THING HAVE BLOWN UP A DAY EARLIER?!?

Little Big Macher (llamasfur), Thursday, 2 October 2003 06:03 (twenty-two years ago)

this makes up IN SPADES for the Repugnants polluting Philadelphia in 2000 with their stupid fucking convention ... the stench of right-wing bullshit is STILL lingering around the Center City area from that wingding.

"i think that G*d's got a sick sense of humor," indeed!

Little Big Macher (llamasfur), Thursday, 2 October 2003 06:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know where the convention is, I heard it in the wrapup to the sportcenter segment along with a quote from mcnabb saying limbaugh better not show up at eagles practice. good lord what do you have to do to be less popular than michael fucking irvin in philadelphia?

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 2 October 2003 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

good lord what do you have to do to be less popular than michael fucking irvin in philadelphia?

you could be richie kotite, circa 1994!

Little Big Macher (llamasfur), Thursday, 2 October 2003 06:23 (twenty-two years ago)

i didn't realize McNabb had in fact called him "a racist" and said that he wasn't welcome at Eagles practice, if he tried to apologize! Good for him.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 2 October 2003 06:29 (twenty-two years ago)

the pills story is quite possibly meant to distract you from, among other things:
1) this,
2) this,
and
3) this

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 2 October 2003 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, for Christ's sake, fuck off.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 2 October 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)
