* rudy ray fucking moore. aka DOLEMITE, sat next to me in the airport lounge while i ate $9 fast food sushi. he had a diamond covered walking stick, a dolemite t-shirt and green snakeskin patterned suit on (and sandals.) i was too nervous to ask for an autograph but some young black kids weren't and i got to listen to him telling stories.

* 16 year old girls apparently dress like prostitutes as a matter of course now

* airport bathrooms are scary

* a 15 year old boy** was reading an anne coulter book across from me on the bus ride home (there is no hope, flee flee)

(**or maybe a particularly youthful midget. okay, mostly i just wanted to tell the dolemite story.)

Sea-Tac is a hub of mentalists.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

b-but DOLEMITE!

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

That is pretty fucking cool.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

What the hell is he doing in Washington State?

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean, not that I'm complaining or anything!

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

He was busy not visiting you. He hates you.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

he was doing a show in seattle! apparently he likes lots of cream in his coffee...i'm so disillusioned.

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

that kicks ass jess. viva viva sea-tac.

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Naturally, Dolemite flies to perform at the capital of creamed coffee.

I saw Jim Brown at the Denver airport once, so that's another Blaxploitation film star at the airport encounter, anyone else?

David Beckhouse (David Beckhouse), Friday, 18 July 2003 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Ever since Jackie Brown, blaxploitation stars think it's cool to just hang around airports.

Jess, what's (76)?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 18 July 2003 03:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought this thread was going to be about Airport 1975 slash

Sommermute (Wintermute), Friday, 18 July 2003 04:24 (twenty-two years ago)

they have slot machines in the waiting areas inside vegas airport. berlin airport is like a little alpine airport that is very tidy. lax is weird. you can buy momus trucker hats at jfk. koln and bonn share theirs like leeds and bradford share theirs. dulles is nice

gareth (gareth), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

you gotta be rocking the moscow sheremetyevo 2 for the ceiling made entirely out of big pipes pointing down, like they could throw a switch down and all this crazy shit could engulf everybody...

ambrose (ambrose), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Singapore Airport has a pool with crazy looking koi carp in it.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

stansted airport is very civilised and relaxing - shame it takes a million fucking light years to get there from london (well 45 mins)

I saw Frank Butcher at Gatwick once - I like to think he was flying Monarch to Lanzagrotty

j0e (j0e), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw Feeder at JFK once. God, they're short. They had that sort of dazed look that British bands touring the States for the first time always have. Like "God, I just can't wait to get home and have a real cup of tea!"

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I always mean to go to airports just to people-watch, no trip planned or anything, because you see people at their worst, tired and disheveled and pissed off. You see what kind of luggage people have, whether they have a guitar, what magazines/books they're reading, etc.
The Orlando airport is fun because it has a monorail you take from one terminal to the next.

NA. (Nick A.), Friday, 18 July 2003 11:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Do they still have the singing attendant at Newark?
