What will, the problem or the relationship? Either way, everything is fantastic in the long run.

Chris Radford (Chris Radford), Saturday, 19 July 2003 08:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Relationships are way, way too complicated. People need to chill out more.

Andrew (enneff), Saturday, 19 July 2003 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

are you the one doing the breaking?

gaz (gaz), Saturday, 19 July 2003 09:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't envy you. The first time it happened to me I had this horrible burning sensation in my chest that went on for days. But then I got over it surprisingly quickly - three weeks, I'd say.

Don't try to hang on if it's not working. You might have to make the final decision for her.

thoth (Jake Proudlock), Saturday, 19 July 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll steal the next one too!!!

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 19 July 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been learning a lot from finally having an ex-serious girlfriend. Though the stuff I learned a lot from having a serious girlfriend was definitely more fun.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 21 July 2003 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Monday, 21 July 2003 06:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Hang on, how was estella's the most obvious consolation?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 July 2003 07:08 (twenty-two years ago)

doggy, your statement leaves too much unanswered. Are you scared for your ego, or for the realtionship? How old are you? Is this an early-kinda serious relationship, or an approaching 30 kinda serious relationship? Because there's a world of difference. Make that two worlds.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 21 July 2003 07:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Nobody is supposed to stay in their first serious relationship. I mean, come on, that's so 1800s!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm 22.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

you're 8 years younger than me. i have no sympathy...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

just kidding - it's horrid but it will pass and yr young yet, there's a lot of fun out there to be had before properly settling down. i'll throw a few mor cliches at you later if you like, but they do happen to be true in this instance...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 11:51 (twenty-two years ago)

My sister is 21 and engaged and I don't envy her for that. You're too young to be worried about this relationship so much!

(Gee, I've been talking an awful lot about my sister today haven't I?)

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Problem with "first serious" breakup = having no basis for comparison, you have absolutely no idea how satisfying the relationship is (it is simply a relationship, and thus seems wonderful no matter what). But you should err on the side of letting go, because otherwise you just may be afflicted with the lifelong doubt that maybe there was something better out there. This sounds like such a shitty "try all the flavors" thing to say, but it'll be even shittier to have some weird mid-life crisis where you're obsessed with finding out about anyone at all besides your now-wife.

eppie lederer (nabisco), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

true.
