never ever use vanilla fridge wipe to freshen up yer sneakers. i tried this on the advice of a mate and the potency has doubled. when i wear these now, the smell arrives before i do.

sitting in a cafe today, i noticed two couples moved away from where i was, wrinkling their noses whilst glaring at my shoes.

do yer shoes give off a frightful pong and how do you solve this problem?

How long have you had the shoes in question? Maybe it's time to retire them.

a couple of years. they're those old school puma thingamees, nice and light, excellent for bike riding. unfortunately when i ride my mountain bike, unsuspecting cafe goers cop the brunt of the smell when i take a caffeine break.

couple of years, eh? I say it's definitely time for a new pair. At the very least, get some new insoles.

Canvas shoes, if that's what they are, are notoriously smelly. Those black retro baseball boots with white details are probably the worst. Chuck these shoes away and wear leather. And if you have smelly feet anyway, dust the shoes with foot powder before you go out and avoid eating fish, smoked meats, or larkstongue in aspic.

I have washed trainers (sneakers) in the washing machine before. That seemed to work.

Put them in the freezer for a couple of days; this seems to kill some of the baddies and will help for a little while at least. Plus they will be cool and refreshing when you put them on! (Put in big ziploc bag first to avoid trainer-flavored ice cubes.)

but surely they will be twice as angry, burning with the searing heat of their lust for revenge, when they are thawed from their cryo-prison??

My feet and shoes never seem to really smell, but perhaps the 'ground coffee tied in a pop sock' trick that works for fridges also works when seeking to absorb trainer stink.
