I changed my name from William to Bill cause no one's ever called me William, and the Bill I was named for was a Willis. So I'm all set now.

My posh friend wanted to be called 'Mercedes'. Then I saw this John Cleese movie with a 'Portia' in it but I thought it was 'Porsche'. I was like, I don't get it, these people are all posh but they call their kids such gauche names, yet they ARE posher than me, so obviously there is something going on I really really don't understand.

My mate J and his brothers know/knew someone in Leeds who was called Merlin. Everyone thought it was a nickname but he apparently showed some people his birth certificate one day.

I have met a Merlin and he was pretty much an asshat, as far as I could tell. Very disappointing.

I like my name although when I first found out it meant 'sheep' I decided to be Ebony instead. I also used to pretend my middle name was Hermione, and this was waaayyy before Harry Potter.

One of my friends that I was staying with in NYC is a Merlin, and lovely with it. He doesn't really act up to it any more that the standard black-clad metal/geek. Though there was that copy of Arthur with Alan Moore on the front lying around...

When I was younger, I used to wish that I had a more dramatic or glamourous name, though I can't remember any of them. (Charlotte, I think may have been one of them, because I was so impressed with a girl named Charlotte who lived in a proper Gypsy caravan.) But Kate suits me so well, I can't imagine being called anything else.

I always wanted some kind of interesting name...I was always jealous of my friends Woganee, Tamini, and Kianda in high school. In the classes I teach there are always a large number of great names. My favourites from the last quarter: Arghavan, Zuoya, Marie-Pierette, Yujie, Cassand, Sunaina, Jeya, Deorani, Zhida, and Indu.
