That picture should be with an Onion article on the subject. And the caption, mostly!

Do Americans really see Canada as such a bad place?

N. Ron, Sunday, 20 July 2003 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

According to recent polls, apparently Canadians see America as a bad place...regardless of the UN rankings (89% saying that Canada is a better place to live than the US --Environics poll). Maybe the feeling is mutual??

cybele (cybele), Sunday, 20 July 2003 01:29 (twenty-two years ago)

most americans don't think of canada at all.

keith (keithmcl), Sunday, 20 July 2003 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)

That's all we need - another fucking American puppeteer.

Bryan (Bryan), Sunday, 20 July 2003 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

talk about white flight!

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 20 July 2003 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

The National Post will hate this.

s1utsky (slutsky), Sunday, 20 July 2003 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Pro: Better sense of inclusion, no Bush to worry about
Con: Tragically Hip are really really popular

It's a trade-off.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Sunday, 20 July 2003 03:37 (twenty-two years ago)

ha - no Bush to worry about! sure

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 20 July 2003 03:40 (twenty-two years ago)

The invasion of Saskatoon is going to have to wait at least three years

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Sunday, 20 July 2003 03:44 (twenty-two years ago)

How many Americans would be willing to pay a 14% sales tax if it meant not having Bush or any of his ilk in office right now? (Not trying to be snarky, asking earnestly)

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 20 July 2003 03:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, they could move to Alberta and only pay 7%... Oh! Oh! Same shit, different pile! How many Americans would be willing to pay a 7 to 15% sales tax, 20% or so more for gasoline, more for alcohol, less for pharmaceuticals, not have to pay a bill after going to the doctor, oh fuck it. We're so fucking DULL here. Stay AWAY. We have a weird accent! We can say the fucking 'ou' diphthong properly! We're practically OVERRUN with comedians! Our water's so clean it makes you want to piss in it just so you don't feel bad about yourself. It's COLD!!! SO COLD!!! Stay the fuck AWAY!

Bryan (Bryan), Sunday, 20 July 2003 05:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to move to Canada but I like professional hockey too much to ever leave the bible belt

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 20 July 2003 05:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey--hold on one second....you're talking to a Leafs fan here.

cybele (cybele), Sunday, 20 July 2003 05:41 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, I just look at the number of hockey teams now in places where the lakes never freeze over, and then the number of hockey teams left in canada and think 'god, I bet them fuckers do hate us'.

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 20 July 2003 05:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but we beat you at hockey...so so so there. Yeah.

cybele (cybele), Sunday, 20 July 2003 05:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I could see myself moving to Toronto

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 20 July 2003 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I couldn't.

cybele (cybele), Sunday, 20 July 2003 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

haha!

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 20 July 2003 05:47 (twenty-two years ago)

It's nice there, and you could go here!

Bryan (Bryan), Sunday, 20 July 2003 05:55 (twenty-two years ago)

DB, 14 percent sales tax ain't a huge leap over Washington's 9 percent. And besides, I imagine the good would probably outweigh the bad.

JS Williams (js williams), Sunday, 20 July 2003 06:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey! You could always go hang with Horace where it's only 13%. Regina's gorgeous. You can drive a half hour north of the city and view the planets with the naked eye. And that's where the Mounties train!

Bryan (Bryan), Sunday, 20 July 2003 06:24 (twenty-two years ago)

or you could acquaint yourself with the concept of "language laws"!
