My friends and I have a thing we occasionally attempt called "40 40's to Freedom". You get as many people to help out as you can. On a long holiday weekend when you are poor or otherwise have nothing better to do than hole up in somebody's place and get hammered and micturate with a frightening frequency, you and your buddies go out and purchase 40 forty-oz. bottles of malt liquor. It has to be malt liquor, preferably OE or Schlitz, and none of that flavored teenybopper St. Ides shit or regular lager in 40 bottles. Steel Reserve is ROUGH and should be avoided as well since it will cut your normal tolerance in half.

You fill the fridge with the 40 40s g-thing style and start drinking immediately. We have only ever tried this on 4-day weekends in the summertime with about 4 or 5 guys. Unfortunately you will find that lots of people drop out pretty quickly, since multiple 40s in a single sitting is not many people's idea of fun. Last time I tried this we ended up with myself and two other guys running around wearing nothing but 3 socks each on a Saturday evening and about 16 40s still left over on Monday night.

I haven't tried since last year, but my pal Luke (who has never attempted this and only recently heard abt it) keeps bringing it up and saying we should do it. I'm feeling like I might be a little old for these shenanigans, but who knows.

Has anyone tried Side Pocket? It's the cheapest 40 oz. malt liquor at $1.50. Beware, once me and two friends sat in the car and drank these babies and I had to keep from vomiting with every sip. The other friends ended up puking behind a dumpster 3 times. I didn't puke. I wonder why not.

I mean, we kind of did that one night at Hampshire, but I refused entry into it because I didn't want to smell the way the boys were starting to reek. So I just took the bottle of Stoli and did that as penance for not doing the 40s, and let me tell you, I vomited way less and smelled way better.

You can't smell anything because everybody is chainsmoking the entire time, and I usually bring a pack of cheap gas station cigars for extra ghetto. As far as I know none of us has ever vomited from drinking forties.

I remember in college we used to argue about the merits of different kinds of malt liquor. The Blue Bull and OE800 are king, easily, and the rest of it is all basically shit. St. Ides, Hurricane, Colt 45 and Steel Reserve all turn my stomach if I let them get the least bit warm (trick for drinking forties - stick'em in the freezer for a little while before digging in, they have to be as cold as possible when you start or they become almost completely undrinkable by the time you're on ounce 31) and Haffenreffer's isn't much better.

40's always remind me of the time my friend Amnon and I went to the corner store. I brought up two 40's (I think they were King Cobra) and the clerk put them in a bag and handed them to me.

Now my friend Amnon is a very polite person, and he nicely asks the store attendant: "Excuse me sir, could we have two smaller bags please?" This was just about the funniest thing ever.
