Questions 'bout my new new job

Hello! Did you miss me? I've been gone for a few months - ever since the evil ones at my horrible new job started monitoring every key stroke I make. It's been terrible, ILX withdrawal is a terrible expereince but I am back coz I don't care anymore! Haha! I have a new new job you see but I have a question for you lovely people (I missed you by the way, I’m welling up here…). Given the circumstance of my departure from my last place (you remember, the gossip, the scandal, the newspaper article, me disappearing with 'stress' never to be seen again) I'm kinda worried what they'll say on my reference, I mean, I know they aren’t really allowed to say nasty stuff but what if something they say makes the new place worried? I should really hand my notice in asap coz the new folk want to know my start date, but I know this lot of evil b*stards will make me work every day of my notice so what if the reference causes a problem, what should I do?

welcome back smee! tough dilemma - how much notice do you have to give them?

Welcome back smee! Can you warn your new place that through no fault of your own, the boss is an arse & this might be reflected in your reference?

Hey, Smee. The words "I have a new job, SEE YA!!!" have to be some of the most beautiful words in the English language. Give your notice - IN WRITING so it's all legal like - and don't worry too much about it.

I envy you. Really.

There is some good advice on this thread:
how to apply for jobs when currently in employment

Generally do not worry about it. If new people withdraw job due to a bad reference (which most people will be loath to do since they will have to go through recruitment purposes again on the hearsay of someone who might have a reason to say something nasty) then you can demand to see the reference - and take current place of employ to court for slander. More likely if they express concern you can have a meeting and talk to them about it. Hand in that notice - and use any holiday you have left to get your feet in the door in the new place.

Thank you. I cannot wait to tell my evil, back stabbing, slimy sneaky snitch co-worker to fuck off, just those 2 words, I am counting the hours. I don't care if I'm burning my bridges!

I may just hand in notice at this job even though I don't have another one lined up. For the simple reason that I am too busy, tired, and just downright CRANKY from this job to even look for one, and even if I did get an interview at another job, I'd be so bitter I wouldn't get it.

:-(

Aww Kate, I know how you feel, I've been at this place for 5 months and it's been hell - it's like being back at school they way they monitor your every move (when I tried to stick up for myself I was publicly reprimanded for being "too nippy" I felt like a naughty child!) Something will turn up - I wasn't even applying for jobs coz I reckoned it was too soon to move - then out of the blue a company that interviewed me last year got in touch! Think positive, it'll get better.

Oh well if they are contacting you then go for it. They really want you.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

too nippy = ???

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

"In the Glasgow area an irritable sharp-tongued person may be described as a nippy sweetie.
The term is an extended use of the original meaning, which was a sweet with a relatively sharp or tart flavour."

Har har, Nippy Sweetie, that's me in a nutshell.

kate (kate), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

good luck! maybe you shouldn't tell them to fuck off until after they've sent the reference, though...

then do something totally totally evil to them. ha!

colette (a2lette), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 11:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I have had recurring dreams/fantasiesabout all the nasty horrible things I could say or do but in the end I just settled on telling the evil cow who has made my working life a misery to fuck off, that's all, just fuck off Carol, gonna take great pleasure in it too...
