Let's talk about pies, baby...

i've probably said far to much about this fine food over the past day or two, so as a way to prevent myself hijacking other threads (especially the sex ones, coz that's just morally and ethically unconscionable when i think about it) and turning them into baked goods discussion fora/perv sessions, i have decided to dedicate an entire thread the glory of pie...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

You guys kept talking about fruit pies and meat pies, but you forgot about the most delicious pie of all - pecan pie. Mmmmmmm.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

ahh back to normal

mmm pie i love pie, i now eat pie, chips, mushy peas and gravy at least once a week, i am intending toget y mum to bake me one of her steak pies and i will feed off of that like a motherly nipple feeds a cub

steak and kidney, chicken and mushroom, steak and ale, steak and mushroom are my fav's

i have never tried a minced beef pie (oops tell a lie i had one in stockport - one of those funny scotch pies - it was dire)

oddly i dont like sweet pies

james (james), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:12 (twenty-two years ago)

My latest pie:

"Margarita" flavored custard (i.e. a key lime type filling, the condensed milk sort, but with a healthy dose of tequila added)
Strawberries and sugar on top
All in a two-crust.

Very popular, very tasty, undoubtedly incredibly bad for you. Good follow-up to spicy food, what with the tequila taste and the creaminess and sweetness (not overpoweringly sweet, which is what I like about it).

This weekend sometime I'm likely making a chicken or beef pot pie, possibly with some radish thrown in because I have radishes to use up.

A good pecan pie does beat all, and I'll take mine a la mode, thank you! Trans-fat is good for you now!

There is no better pie than that made from pork. I think I'm going to have one for my dinner.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the steak, mushroom and Guinness pies they make at Brown's restaurant in Oxford. I eventually managed to get the chef to divulge their special secret recipe, so now I can make them myself, hurrah!

C J (C J), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

in my job i ended up lanmding the best assignment ever - it was cooking eating and reviewing 5 different steak and kidney pies. i ate nothing but meat pies for a whole week and i had the excuse that it was for work. it also resulted in some of my best writing - screw music, pies = where it's at..

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i want to start a magazine deicated to avant-pastry soberly constructing a new culinary canon i will call it The Pier (rhyming with The Wire, not as in seaside jetty thingy). first cover - dizzee and fray bentos...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I live a short way from a cafe, called "my place pie place" you can get any kind of pie you want. From Spagetti-meat to fruit and cream.
My fav is Saskatoon with a scoop of vanilla.

danielle g., Friday, 25 July 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I go through food phases, eating the same thing almost all the time. (At the moment it is lasagne, which is not relevant.) A while ago I was eating eight or ten steak pies a week. They were good, but I've hardly eaten any in a while.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 25 July 2003 20:44 (twenty-two years ago)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Friday, 25 July 2003 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I like Coconut Cream Pie and I like Banana Cream Pie. Why won't someone make a Banana Coconut Cream Pie so I can die a happy man?

oops (Oops), Friday, 25 July 2003 20:52 (twenty-two years ago)

DAMN!
(that doesn't mean I have to die right now though, right?)

oops (Oops), Friday, 25 July 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

and then you could add rum and decorate it with umbrellas and you'd have a fruity drink in PIE form.

tep: the idea of a key lime pie with tequila sounds FANTASTIC.

tep: the idea of a key lime pie with tequila sounds FANTASTIC.

It's really very very good, and so easy -- basically, take the normal recipe for key lime pie filling (condensed milk / lime juice / egg yolk) and just add tequila. I add it before the egg, tasting as I add, and since it loses some flavor when it cooks, because of the egg, you just add it until it's slightly stronger than you want. Hell, it'd be good even without the strawberries on top.

(Next time, though: peaches or apricots.)

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 25 July 2003 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

i was gonna say that it's a shame that i can't find a picture of that legendary mom's apple pie album cover on the web, then kenan posts the pie picture and i know that i needn't search anymore for vaginal-looking pie.
