I had the pleasure this weekend of experiencing two things that i had never experienced before

1) i saw a huge tiger being fed and it was huge and really informative and just awe inspiring (i must have taken 60 pictures easily)

2) i played football in my first cup final at the Charles Wells inaugural football tournament - we came second but considering the standard of teams we did real well and came back with a smaller runners up trophey - which was nice except for te fact i have twsted my ankle and it has all ballooned up and hurts quite a lot.

tell me about your weekend

james (james), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I experienced a glow of satisfaction from actually tidying and cleaning up bits of the house and not stopping after half an hour for 'a quick break' on the playstation.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Friday nite i watched BB, in yer face Jon!
Sat - I too watched tigers, pumas, lynxs & wolves being fed. Along with stroking capybaras, sheep, donkeys, deer & feeding ponies.
Sun - I spent all day cleaning the house & felt a huge sense of achievement as the house now sparkles!
(but then you already knew all of this!)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I snaffled 4 dining chairs from my sister's house! I can sit at a table again! This was the high point. Oh wait, we also came second in the pub quiz and won a tenner. (I impressed all with my random knowledge of Rossini.)

Archel (Archel), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

1) In the morning I fixed a broken beer pump, had a stern word with my assistant about getting halfway through orders and then losing concentration (felt all managery and grown up, so then went out for ice lollies for all to compensate).

In the evening I ran around like a mad thing making sure 140 covers were happy, at one point actually snapping my corkscrew in half (this corkscrew has been with me for three years, so I was sorry at it's loss) before going home and watching a couple of episodes of Angel that my g/f who had dropped by had brought with before hem hem *a veil is drawn over the rest of the evening at Casa Coastaltown*

2) Sunday was spent mostly reading the Observer whilst watching Vaughn compile his innings. Felt like a couch potato so went out for lengthy run. My housemate got back from London and regaled me with tales of free Stella at a wedding. In the evening watched Small Time Crooks and Topsy Turvy, both of which entertained me greatly, but I felt a bit of a lightweight after so got stuck into some reading.

Matt (Matt), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

on friday i went to the tate modern with lucy to look at a photography exhibition. i didnt like most of it, but the essen in the 30s and the dole offices in the 80s were good. the shore was ok, the egglestone contrived. all in all, too contrived, too black and white, too many people. then lucy went for a meal and i went back to get changed, thinking i might go out for drinks with them afterwards. i didnt, needless to say, they found some pills and went to fortress. damn!

on saturday i bought a black towel and went for a walk, and then in the evening went to the fap at glasshouse stores, then to pollo for food, and then me and stevem ended up at the spanish bar. look is it called bradleys because i really dont like calling it the spanish bar. still, at least it is better than calling it 'spain' whioch really irritates me

sunday i went for another walk to southbank, then up through the city, along to aldgate and then up to brick lane where i met up with charlotte, lucy and jon for a curry which was ok, and then drinks at, er, vibe bar maybe? then i went to sleep

gareth (gareth), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to a motorbike race for the first time. It was like Reading Festival, only with bikes instead of bands. I enjoyed it as much as you might expect.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Bradleys is a different one I think.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth: Bradleys is Bradley's Spanish Bar which is much closer to Oxford St than The Spanish Bar, which is properly called Sevilla Mia or somesuch and is closer to TCR.

My understanding of the usage "Spain" in this regard was not that anyone was actually calling the bar 'Spain', but rather saying "shall we go to Spain?" as a shorthand for "shall we experience the culture and flavour of that proud nation by way of the Spanish Bar?"

This weekend I bought 17 LPs of Brazilian music, which was a first for me.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Took the step sprogs to the shows, spent all day scaring us & them witless on various roller coasters and rides, ate hot doughnuts, got burgers on the way home - great fun.
Yesterday did the garden then slobbed out.

smee (smee), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I also wore women's underwear for the first time this weekend!

Tom (Groke), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I was a bridesmaid on sat. and it was a fab day. Chris watched on in bemusement at the reception, because it was a ceilidh, but I had a fantastic time, fast dancing and bouze is a great combination! Staying up drinking until three when you have to drive from the forth road bridge to London isn't such a good one, but we did get to go to deep sea world, and went on the longest underwater tunnel in europe, complete with moving walkway. Then we spent 9 hours in the car (the longest journey I've ever driven, and I'm never doing it again), feeling like crap and eating lots of junk food.

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Vicky: longer than the chunnel?

Tim (Tim), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Bradley's is only open normal bar hours and has a great if repetitive old style jukebox. 'The Spanish Bar' is further up (as Tim says) and is actually two bars, upstairs and down. Upstairs, they make you look them in the eye and give them the secret signal before you are allowed in.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

yes Tim, longer than the chunnel.

This Ceilidh thing = for mentalists only. I did the only thing I could when faced with such horror. Got very very drunk.

chris (chris), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

ah, maybe longest see through underwater tunnel that you can watch the fishes through. Sharks and eels, and stingrays, and turbot, and cod etc. It was very cool. And they had lots of other tanks with interesting stff in, including a handling tank.

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom 'wins'

stevem (blueski), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I touched a spotted ray!

Vicky wouldn't let me buy a porpoise mask

chris (chris), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Depending on what "touched a spotted ray" means it may be a tie between Tom & Chris for 1st place...

smee (smee), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:56 (twenty-two years ago)

It means a diseased cock.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom - how was it?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:58 (twenty-two years ago)

shut up Dastoor

chris (chris), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:58 (twenty-two years ago)

It was comfortable! I didn't get any kind of secret thrill from it, and the only guilt or shame I felt was shame at being too lazy to go to the launderette for so long that I'd had to borrow Isabel's knickers.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

So was it a silky thong or was it the big monthly knickers that all girls have? (or am i too interested?) heh heh!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I drove around and ended up on top of a mountaintop where there were some amateur astronomers and saw the polar caps of Mars for the first time.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, the big ones. I've worn a man-thong before and have no desire to repeat that experience.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to Kew Gardens for the first time yesterday, and very nice it was too. I also ate swordfish for the first time.

It was not the most rock and roll weekend of my life.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom, are you practising for a trip to New York?

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i went to the geffrye museum in hackney for the first time - what a sweet place, loads of great furniture from the 1600s onwards, but it affirmed my general feeling that i'm glad i've lived in the 20th/21st centuries and that the 1920s were one hell of a stylish decade...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:13 (twenty-two years ago)

on saturday i played in the park with 6 babies and their parents. i got called a poo-monkey.

yesterday i climbed a tree and chopped off some of its branches with a saw.

pete b. (pete b.), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to a friend's stag night. it was the first time i ever went to one.

Tim: that LP name means 'sick and wet'. I remembered my portuguese as I left the pub (and what's the name of that shop you went to get those LPs?).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow Chris b that sounds fantastic - what did they look like - white spots or more details (n.b. i am being serious even tho it sounds a litttle sarcastic)

james (james), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

It was grey, with white spots, and it was sticking it's nose out of the water in a very cheeky way.

chris (chris), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

saturday i went to see a friend of a friend of a friend's band play and was on the guest list for the first time *and* had a song dedicated to me for the first time! (despite dating tons of boys in bands over the years)

sunday i went to wimbledon and ended up drinking cocktails at a thai place and then getting tricked into going to PoNaNa (for the first time). ick. there was a brawl afterwards, though, with girls punching each other and calling each other whores. that was interesting.

colette (a2lette), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i tried morbier cheese for the first time. i wasn't impressed.

kephm, Monday, 28 July 2003 12:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I played a show in Baltimore for the first time. I also stayed at a stranger's house after a show for the first time. Not exactly a stranger, the drummer from the band that we opened for. But it was a very positive experience.

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 28 July 2003 12:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I was on a hen weekend in Paris and we saw the Tour de France live, it was smashing. Also we went on the world's most dangerous ferris wheel operated by lecherous French twins and I went on a carousel with no underwear on. eep.

Emma, Monday, 28 July 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Commando Carousel! Now we know where Tom got those undies from! (Yes yes I know he said he borrowed Isabel's but let's not be pedantic, eh?)

Julio: good old Mr CD.

Tim (Tim), Monday, 28 July 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 28 July 2003 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Tim all I can say is that I am very glad I went to an excellent finishing school where I was taught to mount and dismount fairground rides in a modest fashion.

Emma, Monday, 28 July 2003 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

haha mount

Tim (Tim), Monday, 28 July 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

chris i actually meant the other chris b (i now see my mistake - two chris b's) who saw the mars polar ice caps - but i like rays as well so its all good

james (james), Monday, 28 July 2003 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Friday: Did a realityTV audition in the morning; helped an artist friend hang some art in the afternoon; then dinner--sushi at Omasa in Little Tokyo (downtown LA) followed by wacky karaoke.

Saturday day: Art While You Wait at The Blessing of the Cars; where I discovered an amazing Tiki carver (I will be blogging this with photos a little later today).

Saturday night: Saw a really disturbing movie but it was ok as my host was well stocked with scotch and soda.

Sunday: Recovering.

Monday: all my errands done before noon. Feelin' perky.

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 28 July 2003 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Tom, are you going to be nice to us and post a picture of you in women's underwear? Many of us are curious to see what you looked like!

This weekend, I finished up the first story that I've completed this year. I'm proud of myself. (Watch for it on assm sometime next week, or StoriesOnline in a few days. It's for adults only, of course.) Unfortunatly, I could complete it only because this weekend was the first time in months that I didn't get any work for this weekend. I've just been to the office and was told that they were still looking for work for me for the rest of this week. I'm scared because I have quite a few bills due at the end of this month.

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Monday, 28 July 2003 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I baked cookies, drank cider, vodka, limoncello, beer and wine, hung out on a roof, smoked, threw bottle caps at a boy, danced, met someone who knows an infrequent ILX poster, watched friends get very drunk, went to crappy yard sales, bought 19 books for $3, unsuccessfully tried to buy a cheesesteak, finished the knitting for my bikini, planned some mix cds for another friend's housewarming, watched Pink Lady reruns and Car Wash.

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 28 July 2003 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

On Saturday morning I watched cricket and wrestling. In the afternoon I went to a freinds house and watched "Audition". In the evening I read, and watched Rambo II, it was great. On Sunday, I went to the park. In the afternoon I met another of my pals. I bought a Neil Young CD. I answered questions on the internet and watched more cricket whilst chatting on AIM. In the evening I watched Mystery Science Theater 3000 the movie. It was a nice weekend.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 28 July 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Baseball, Swimfan, Greek food, ribs, writing, put together a D&D game for some friends, considered painting but ended up not doing so cause I couldn't pick a color.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 28 July 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

weekend firsts:

i got waved onto Long Beach without paying for the beach pass, that's never happened before

i took digital pictures of airplanes taking off right above our car

on Sunday i mistook a TV re-run of a May game between the Red Sox and the Yankees for the real thing. it took FOREVER for me to figure it out: Clemens was pitching ("huh, that's odd, did they knuckle under to media pressure or have they totally lost faith in Weaver?"), and Shea Hillenbrand was playing third for Ver Sox ("WTF??? i thought we got rid of him!!"). and then i realized they were somehow mystically playing a night game at 2:05pm

friday i saw "dirty pretty things" which was AMAZING, one of those rare movies that changes your whole mood, that makes you feel paler and less real the further in the past it is because you just don't want to stop thinking about it

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 28 July 2003 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Christine: no. I'm not prejudiced, mind: there are not going to be any pictures online of me in mans' underwear either.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 28 July 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

No? Darn it.

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Monday, 28 July 2003 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I helped my parents move to their new home, involving three entire truckloads of stuff. (And this was a full-size moving truck, and this was after they hired professional movers to transport the "important" stuff.
Then, that Saturday night, I went drinking with my brother and a friend. We ended the weekend off with 18 holes at the local country club and more drinks.
This is the first time I've helped my parents move and the first time I played that particular course.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Monday, 28 July 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

on saturday i played in the park with 6 babies and their parents. i got called a poo-monkey.

I'm still laughing

luna (luna.c), Monday, 28 July 2003 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I played the Sims properly for the first time (I'm slow, ok?) and its horrible and addictive and I spent a lot of Sunday on the damn thing, had to force myself to go to bed at 1am so I wouldnt be a zombie for work.

I also cooked things, tried to save data from a very dead hard drive (I was not succesful) and went to see a hilarious Australian zombie horror film on Saturday nite called "Undead" as part of the Film Festival. It was pretty entertaining, even if the dialogue was Bad (I suppose it was meant to be).
