Dream jobs

This has prolly been done before, but what the hey!
My dream job would be to work with animals. Esp at a wildlife park. I cannot think of anything that would provide more job satisfaction (apart from being a mum) than getting to feed tigers & the like. Getting up close to animals that only live in the wild would be amazing. I would never moan about work again if i could do this. I wouldnt even complain about the low wages or smell of poo!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

*sigh*

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

thats nice - i think the animals would cheer up with you there too. my dream job remains Chief Taster for Walkers Crisps, or superstar DJ

stevem (blueski), Monday, 28 July 2003 09:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I wanna work for Jim Henson's Creature Shop.

smee (smee), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Cartographer

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

well, i'd like to get paid decently for writing abt music, but as this is apparently just about impossible i'd love to be a novelist and divide my time between london, new york and southwold - and be a dad to several naughty little stelfoxes, too.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:03 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not hugely difficult to get that job Pinkpanther. Last time we were at the Cotswold Wildlife Park Isabel asked one of the keepers how he'd got the job and he'd just started off doing voluntary work and kept doing it until a full-time position came up.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:06 (twenty-two years ago)

importer of trainers and a trainer shopkeeper - hopefully this may come true in the next few years

james (james), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i would join you in this venture james - am a bit of a sneaker fiend...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd still be an archivist, but it would be for a really interesting company, either booze or food, and the staff benefits would be fantastic, the salary huge or at least make it affordable for me to work part-time, with copious leave. And I'd have minions to take on all the work I didn't want to do.

Vicky (Vicky), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave, get in line matey! Unless of course you've got loads of capital you'd like to invest?!!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:17 (twenty-two years ago)

well, i may have... you never know...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

yay, then welcome aboard!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i could be an international novelist with really nice shoes ;-)

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

really really nice shoes - that no one else has

james (james), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

aha! elitist shoes!

Matt (Matt), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes! OK, qualifying question, would you spend £200 on a pair or trainers if they were rare & there were only a small amount released in the uk?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:27 (twenty-two years ago)

ahem - yes

james (james), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:36 (twenty-two years ago)

yes i would and have done.
new york kills me as far as sneaker shopping goes...
elitist shoes = the best kind

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:36 (twenty-two years ago)

DAVE STELFOX RULES

i used to have a yearly pilgramige - save up all year and then go and blow all my money on sneakers and clothes

now i am mature and i dont do this anymore but i love a good splurge every now and again

if you dont mind me asking dave - what did you buy??

james (james), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Now this is gonna get very dull for anyone else reading this thread! But yeah dave, what did you buy?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

My dream job would be to get paid for doing Freaky Trigger / moderating ILX / otherwise arsing about on 'online projects'.

Either that or being the kind of teacher who takes his favourite boys on a midsummer hunt for the school ghost.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:46 (twenty-two years ago)

i go about three times a year coz i have friends there and keys to an apartment in brooklyn,. i normally have a pretty cheap time there until i end up buying sneakers. last time i bought two pairs of nike hi-tops, both brown, one old-school airs in natural tan leather and another of which i can't quite remember the name but they have incredibly thin outer soles and an upper than extends almost all the way round the foot, but inside, they're v well padded and comfy. they actually make my feet look abit like baked potatoes, but they're different w/out being toolook-at-me-flash

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:47 (twenty-two years ago)

You do realise that you are my boys god now?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

ahem i have no gods - im just happy that someone else is a mentalist about trainers on ilx

james (james), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Rock star. I suppose that makes me "immature," but screw you, man, I just wanna rock!

NA (Nick A.), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i had a bit of a clear out when i moved house last month and threw abt 12 pairs away... i now only have 13 and it's not enough!!! am off out shoipping this w/end. there's a good, good trainer shop in london already just opposite choci's chewns in soho... anyone wanna come spend money w/ me!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Jst cos he went to your idea of heaven 3 times a year! :-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave - we're going trainer hunting on Sat! yay us!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:53 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, this is the Anti-Lara thread.

My dream job would probably be to work for the company of friends of mine down the road who do physics model stuff for videogames/movies.

A friend works there as product manager, so she gets to go to video games conventions and big companies come up to her to show her what the games we'll be playing next year look like. Sweet.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

oh im sorry hun - yeah def jealous about that

dave is chocci tunes down st annes passage? if not where is it? FP is great so yep we are fof there on saturday and then for a jaunt in to covent garden

james (james), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

serious? if you want to, i'd be in for that - team it with coffee and cakes at some point and i'll be a happy boy :-)

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

there's always room for more people sneaker shopping - and cakes and coffee rule - are you going to the trig brother?

james (james), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

kicks, koffee & kakes! woo hoo!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:08 (twenty-two years ago)

there could be an implied racist comment there my sweet like the Marlboro pack 8-o

james (james), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

no i'm not going to that but i'll send one of you and email w/ my mobile number and we can sort something out from there... yay, this has cheered up my monday morning!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Aww Dave, why not?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

It's kinda like the nice KKK. all good wholesome yummy stuff!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't know what it is!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

erm...

kicks, koffee & kakes! woo hoo!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

My dream job is Writer Of Poems. I wd get paid a regular salary AND I would not have to do readings, teach creative writing, write reviews, do residencies or have anything at all to do with children. Not much to ask for is it?

Archel (Archel), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I am obsessed with T-shirts in the way Dave and James are obsessed with sneakers. I usually get most designs in seasonal collections by Silas, Tonite, PAM, Gimme Five, Good Enough etc.

Nathan W (Nathan Webb), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh Nathan, have you joined the right thread!
James to thread again!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Photographing Jo Guest naked.

spoonered, Monday, 28 July 2003 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

so this is now the obsessive thread

yeah i have a fair few of them tee's - kind of a by product from working in a cool clothes shop a few years ago

james (james), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

i like t-shirts too - go to www.digitalgravel.com for some top designs

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave, the second pair you got sound like Air Mocs. I got a black pair and love them, but no-one else seems to, kind of like bags for your feet, yes? with a drawstring.

chris (chris), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

nah, they're proper boots, but i quite like mocs, had a pair a few years back...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

my best score recently was a couple of KAWS tees from the man himself, before they completely sold out. I find www.beinghunted.com a really good place to keep on top of what's coming out - plus loads of sneaker news for you guys. Does anyone else think BAPE completly overrated?

Nathan W (Nathan Webb), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, uh huh!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 11:49 (twenty-two years ago)

So did i!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

well, shopping is a wonderful thing and shouldn't be confined to womankind.

Nathan W (Nathan Webb), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh no i didn't say it should be!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I know you didn't. I was just responding to Dave's point abt blokes as stereotypical bad shoppers.

Nathan W (Nathan Webb), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

yay! let's all buy stuff!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:15 (twenty-two years ago)

yay!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I was thinking maybe...
http://www.crookedtongues.com/images/news_pics/dnkpnk.jpg

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

they are really cute... i don't know what i want at all, but will prob find something

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

During my shopping trips to London I have taken to wearing two pairs of socks to avoid blisters, and therefore KEEP going.

Going back to the BAPE thing, Nigo has released the new OOIOO album, so I can't be too down on the whole enterprise.

Nathan W (Nathan Webb), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

My boy imported me a pair from japan, very similar to these for xmas, sadly they sent the wrong size & they had to go back! :-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

ah no, that's such a shame... i really want an original pair of red suede adidas jeans, too... remember them?

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I badly want a pair of those woven Etnies Plus trainers. Where can i get them?

Nathan W (Nathan Webb), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

erm, maybe best go onto the Crooked Tongues forum to ask questions such as that one Nathan!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:28 (twenty-two years ago)

cool. Never been there before. I just wondered if anyone had come across them on their travels, since I've never seen them available in any retailer anywhere.

Nathan W (Nathan Webb), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

now these, i love...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 28 July 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Any job where I don't have to go to work until whenever I feel like it (say, 2 pm).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 July 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Seconded! With unlimited ILX access also, obv.

smee (smee), Monday, 28 July 2003 14:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I have my dream job right now. It is fun, challenging, stimulating, it pays reasonably well - not to mention I get to decide my own working hours & I have unlimited ILX access. I have to quit it in 5 months though, and I will never ever EVER get as good a job again. My life can only get worse and more boring from now on. HOW SAD IS THAT!!!

Hanna (Hanna), Monday, 28 July 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

so what is this dream job? my swedish friend had an awesome job getting $40/hour translating american porn websites into swedish.

but my dream job is working at Conde Nast Traveller doing travel writing.. or the editorial staff. or being the commercial face of a product - like "the verizon guy" or "the dell dude" or "the pine-sol woman". i want to be like that

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 28 July 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I work on a radio station where I get do this show every week: www.sr.se/p3/pop. I am also Swedish, so, wow, perhaps I can have your friend's job when I quit then!

Hanna (Hanna), Monday, 28 July 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Are you a longtime lurker now posting, Hanna? Welcome!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 July 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I like being a library assistant, I wouldn't really wanna do any other sort of employed work. If I could make money out of art, music, writing etc, then that'd be nice. Never really had a dream job, or more to the point I often dreamt of avoiding work altogether. This objective of avoidance still plays a fundamental role in my r'ship with work.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 28 July 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Why thankyou Ned. Yes yes, lurked for months and months!

Hanna (Hanna), Monday, 28 July 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Hurrah for Hanna, more people! Next you have to post your AIM handle and then you'll never get any work done ever.

Jel's explanation is seductive and describes me to a certain extent, though not all of it. I seem to be taking the slow road on things, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 July 2003 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

voice talent. make music for video games. write and direct a series on Adult Swim.

Millar (Millar), Monday, 28 July 2003 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

ANY job that didn't involve telemarketing, food, customer service, or manual labor would be a dream job for me at this point

oops (Oops), Monday, 28 July 2003 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd want a job where I would go somewhere for an hour a week, do nothing, and get paid lots of money for it.

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Monday, 28 July 2003 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I want a job as a columnist for a paper where I can rant about my opinions and get paid for it. I spend large amounts of my weekend ranting at columnists and shouting "you know NOTHING!" at the newspaper (kind of). I could so do that and get paid for rattling off nonsensical opinions that irritate the bollocks off people.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 28 July 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

(not that I have bollocks, and that's not because columnists irritated them off me - I'm not Lisa off BB4 you know)

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 28 July 2003 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Hurrah for de-lurked Hanna...I also am in radio and it is indeed the most perfect and fun job. I also have that feeling of 'It only gets worse from here' but maybe I will get a bigger radio job when I move to a big city. I am not exited about working for The Man though.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 28 July 2003 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Combining one or two things mentioned, I have done some photography for a porn site or two.

Ideally, something creative. If it made me rich and got me lots of drugs and sex, even better, so pop star would be good. I suspect being unattractive and old and having a horrible voice makes this unlikely. Closest I came to creative success was as a comic book editor, but I never felt comfortable with a loathsome boss, plus financial and creative constraints. I lack creative talent, but I think I was a good editor, so it's a shame the market shrunk so dramatically, and there is no prospect of my returning to this.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 28 July 2003 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

To eventually succeed, John Peel on Radio 1.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Monday, 28 July 2003 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I like how Martian's comment can be seen as a condition of his success rather than the goal.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 July 2003 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Honestly, sometimes I think it'd be really fun to work in a salon. I like making people pretty.

Mandee, Monday, 28 July 2003 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

what mandee said.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 01:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I would be an incredibly successful standup comedian, like Eddie Izzard but less smug. And I would speak many many languages.

Nellie (nellskies), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 02:37 (twenty-two years ago)

had my dream job once;
I left it after three years;
ergo, I'm stupid

Haikunym, Tuesday, 29 July 2003 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Wizard.

Leee (Leee), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Masked man porn star.

Scaredy cat (Natola), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Revivalist (Revivalist), Monday, 19 July 2004 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

czn, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 14:34 (eighteen years ago)

doubt i'm going to get to be a blade runner any time soon :(

DG, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

games tester, specifically for konami, specifically for pro evolution soccer.

either that or writing from home, about any subject at all as long as the pay was decent.

and third place lecturing in any third level institution. even my crappy local one. which is very realisable, hopefully within the next two years.

darraghmac, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 14:44 (eighteen years ago)

Madcap heiress (rather too late for that)
Editor at Magnet
Clothing designer (making clothes for the professional Washington woman--tailored but slightly offbeat suits, dresses, etc.)

j.lu, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 14:50 (eighteen years ago)

Actually I know it sounds a bit childish to want to become a playtester to most people but I really think I'd be very good at this job, I guess it's the sort of job which is really only part time though.

"I'd like to sell propane and propane accessories"

Ste, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

the problem is there are too many volunteers for playtesting. we should form a professional company offering our services, and then blacklist any playtester offering services below the agreed hourly rate.

darraghmac, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

i think i just want to interview people about things! and sure do the research needed to ask good questions and write a bit but mostly just have conversations. and then be like 'okay bye!'

rrrobyn, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

i want to be one of those people who work for "The Soup" that watch tv all day to find crazy shit because, tbh, by the time friday rolls around ive already seen half of the clips they show anyway.
