1) check jetblue
2) go to orbitz.com and do the "flexible days" search (also there you can search on all the new york city airports at once- just type New York City into the "destination" box & chose "all new york city airports" on the next page)
3) sign up for the expedia.com "flight alert" mails--> they send you a weekly mail with the lowest fares between two cities
I always fly into Newark on Continental, then when I'm going to NYC, grab the airtrain-- which is actually quite fast & picks up right at the terminal, but that's because all my frequent flier miles are on Continental. They're not always the cheapest.
