What function does Amanda Peet serve in a film?

i had pondered this upon viewing "The Whole Nine Yards" and concluded she was there merely to flash her toothy grin and jubblies. however, i have been forced to reconsider my initial assessment having just seen "Changing Lanes". her scene with affleck in that restaurant was absolutely gripping. she can act!!!!

so yer thoughts on peet's acting chops and does she make a decent pinch hitter? (the ability to nail a part with only a couple of scenes)

?

Chris Radford (Chris Radford), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 02:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Toothy jubblies?

I liked her on Jack and Jill, which is the first thing I saw her in -- but the show itself I only liked for a few episodes. I don't know how much of that should be chalked up to her acting; plot-wise, it was one of those things that's only interesting when it's nowhere near resolved.

I think she'd be more useful as a character actor than screen candy, but I don't find her stunningly attractive, so there you go.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 02:43 (twenty-two years ago)

She made a great heinous bitch in Saving Silverman.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Ohhh yeah, I forgot about that. She was good in that.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 02:46 (twenty-two years ago)

"mendacious beauty-bitch to go"

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 04:31 (twenty-two years ago)

What was that kidnaping movie she was in with Jack Black, that was f'in grate!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 04:33 (twenty-two years ago)

nice one tracer. that sums up her schtick very well!

Chris Radford (Chris Radford), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 04:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Saving Silverman, Tracer

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 04:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha I never knew the name of it, I saw the last 3/4 of it like 200000 times, it got better EACH TIME (and Amanda Peet got exactly what she deserved, EACH TIME!)

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 04:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I also don't find her attractive in ANY WAY so this is not quite Smearing shit in a pretty girl's face: The debasement of women in pop although I think it may be akin to it somehow

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 04:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I have an irrational hatred of Saving Silverman after all those weird "Douglas" voicemails Ramon left me, wtf?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Amanda Peet is a great actress who is in shitty movies.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Igby Goes Down is not shitty.

Sommermute (Wintermute), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I beg to differ. Igby GOes Down is self indulgent claptrap about a poor rich kid which lacks the emotional depth for the Transporter - let alone the Catcher In The Rye heights that it apes..

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that anybody not entirely incompetent could have pulled off Peet's performance in Changing Lanes.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

She's 'the lady' in "beer bong fer m'lady?", and for that she's forgiven for all else.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Pete and Horace both OTM. That's all.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Nah. Igby roxx U R all rockist.

Sommermute (Wintermute), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that anybody not entirely incompetent could have pulled off Peet's performance in Changing Lanes.

You're probably right, but she was perfect for making us understand what kind of pressure Affleck was under, her face demands champagne flutes and expensive sweaters.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

T.H. you should write mystery novels.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

her face demands champagne flutes

Worst euphemism ever.

Sommermute (Wintermute), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Or perhaps worst case of literalism ever? "I demand champagne flutes!"

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Her face is like this sentient creature she struggles to control. It also demands cross-town cab-rides during rush hour. FEED ME, AMANDA!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

she's hot.
but she needs more than a five minute scene to PROVE herself as a playa.
note: I hold to the belief that there's no such thing as GREAT actors, just great roles, great scripts, good direction. For proof, see the career of Bruce Willis.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I like her. I think she's a good actress and pretty attractive, just in that Hollywood sort of way.

I especially liked her in that recent movie with John Cusack.
Did anyone see Whipped? Was it any good?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

ARRGH MY EYES THE GOGGLES DO NOTHING

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

oh yeah, I forgot about Identity. She was pretty good in that.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I kind of think she looks like a dude. I mean a pretty dude with tits but kind of a dude.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I kind of think she looks like a dude. I mean a pretty dude with tits but kind of a dude.
right, that's what I said, she's hot.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

horsey women must be stopped

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

neeeyyyyyyyyy

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Hollywood needs to appeal to the tranny-chasers too, you know.

TMFTML (TMFTML), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

god she is such a tranny

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, she's playing a female rock critic in a new movie produced by none other than Madonna.

Jeanne Fury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm totally gonna see that. It's one of my jobs in life to see every movie about the music industry ever.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

"a world all too real to her" is how some flack describes Madge's interest in the project, as if she regrets her involvement in the music bizz.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Considering that Madge can't act, producing is the obvious next step to audience domination.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)
