I don't claim to have been subsumed by the troubles or any such, but there's a v complex and intricate relationship that's v much part of the island's psyche, has always been to the forefront of the politics, history, identity, w/e, even in the south (and i grew up not very far from border territory pre good friday).

Used to know a guy from NI, who was a terrible man terrible man. He was a total raging Proddy/Ulster Scot who'd somehow latched on to this insipid middle class English girl and proceeded to leech off her and do little else but drink and argue with people, we used to call him the Shankhill Moocher
