laundry

give me some advice?
why does it have to take so long to wash & dry?
is it a bad idea to drink beer & watch the spin cycle?

hamilton gault, Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

When I did do laundry, me and J** used to go together. There's a bar above the laundromat. 5 or 6 margaritas later, our laundry would be done. Folding would be an exciting adventure.

I don't think I've done the laundry since she moved actually.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

you must own plenty of fresh clothes. i do not.
i usually wait until the drying phase to start drinking.

hamilton gault, Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I own more clothes than pretty much anyone in the world, I admit to that. God, I don't know what I will do with all the clothes when I do the laundry this week. Where will I put them?! Holy shit.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Doing laundry bores me. I SO wish there was a margarita laundry joint around here.

Thus, my huge underwear collection.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, come on, Sarah, your underwear isn't that huge.

(rimshot) Thanks a lot, folks, you've been great.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Grrrr!

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Kick his ass.

(your collection might be huge but can you go since January without doing laundry and still have underwear?)

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i do believe i have pushed the limits of febreeze & not wearing underwear.
you see, they spoke to a lady i work with today. my boss had to ask her if she takes a shower every day. then, he had to ask her if she has heard of soap.

f-it, i will just buy more underwear. i blame sarah.

hamilton gault, Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i payed close to $60 once for 2 two loads of wash & fold.

At college there was a laundromat w/a bar in it. How college is that?

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

perfect for vomiting! ez clean-up

hamilton gault, Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

my thoughts exactly!

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

We went to a laundromat/pizza shop once, but the pizza sucked and so did the washers and driers.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

did they suck a poor, lone sock into a wormhole?

hamilton gault, Tuesday, 29 July 2003 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm doing laundry right now! The washer and dryer are like ten feet away from my room. I think my linens and towels are done! Time to dry my socks and underwear. Then I'll do some shirts! That'll make three loads before dinnertime. Life is a fine thing indeed.

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, rub in your proximity to laundry why don't you, meanwhile I'm gonna be hauling my ass 4 blocks tonight and up and down 4 flights of stairs PLUS the flight of stairs at the laundromat to do some of this shit finally tonight. God I hate life.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

You know what? Fuck this bullshit. I'm gonna just drop it the fuck off and pick it up at lunch tomorrow. TAKE THAT LAUNDRY. It just is not worth all that time and effort.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Since January? Please tell me you're not serious...you look so clean and freshly scrubbed in those FAP photos!

cybele (cybele), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Could be worse Ally. Not that long ago, there were no washing machines even *shudders*

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 21:44 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a bar in Edinburgh called the Lost Sock which is a diner/laundrette. So you can have a beer while you do your laundry This kind of imagination is sadly lacking anywhere else I've been. Unless you count my kitchen which has a washing machine and a wine rack :)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm dead serious, cybele...buying a lot of clothing and lingerie is how I racked up about $10k in credit card debt (this is beside my student loans). SIGH. Bras and certain shirts and skirts are handwash stuff and I have a couple things I dry clean so that's kind of cheating a little when I say I haven't washed clothes since January.

That being said, my life has just been inalterably changed. There are these people--I shall call them "angels"--who want to do my laundry for me. I knew this, right. But the thing is, they only want to charge me $2 more than what it would cost for me to do it MYSELF. This was for like 30lbs of laundry! I've got about 60 more but these wonderful people will be doing all of it, and I kiss them. I never have to do laundry again ever!!!!!!!!!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

This is where I give thanks to God for having a washer and dryer combo in the ground level of our house, and I only have to climb two flights of steps to go from there to my bedroom.

Doing laundry is even easier when I decided to stay down in the den while it's being done. Only one flight of steps and ta-da, to the folding/hanging! Plus the TV in the den has a DVD player, and the den is located next to the kitchen, so if I feel like it, I could whip up a quick snack and watch David Bowie or Pump Up the Volume while I wait!

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 03:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I could tell the stories abt barracks laundry rooms that I have dealt with from Basic Training until last December - for one thing, sharing washers and dryers with 60 other people - for another, all the dryers ran on regular outlets as opposed to the fat gauge outlets wired into normal residential laundry machinery - but it would be worthless. I'll say that I lost a lot of shirts and pants to that shit and that I hated doing laundry for a long time.

I've earned my laundry machinery that I have right now, dammit. I'm gonna go grab my two hawaiian shirts and the soccer jersey out of the dryer now and hang them up and the only thing left to clean is the white dress shirt that needs dry-cleaning anyway. Here's to convenience and the way of riches. Here's to growing old in wrinkle-proof everything and simple linens and canvas pants. I salute the doers of laundry and every man woman and child who has ever had to suffer communal machinery.

FUCKING CAPITALISM MOTHERFUCKERS

TASTE THE LUXURY

Buy your own washing machine. It is SO worth it. Getting one has improved the quality of our lives considerably, you wouldn't believe it! Now we only need a dish washer and one of those cute vacuum cleaning robots and we're all set.

Hanna (Hanna), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 07:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I have my own washing machine & I really don't see what all the fuss is about. Put it on & then hang the clothes out when it's done. It's not the most interesting job of all, but there you go!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 07:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I find it strange to think that so few rental places in the states have washing facilities. I just assume they have all the gagets plus some.

Vicky (Vicky), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 09:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I just bought a washing machine! It will be delivered Friday! I am delirious with joy!

(I bought a digital camera too. Initially I was more excited about the camera but then I looked at our laundry basket.

Tom (Groke), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

You can now take pics of your laundry basket and post them here. Hooray

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

We do not have a laundry basket at the moment, part of it broke, so James kicked it across the room. I think he may have been trying to fix it?!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Just did three loads last Friday (we have three washers and two dryers in the building's basement, only one stop down on the elevator). I finally have clothes again, but the pile of dirty laundry that was on my futon is now a pile of clean laundry. I have nowhere to put it! Le sigh.

Pabst Blue Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

washer/dryer in the closet of my living room. One of the best purchases ever. The cost and the time it took to go to the laundromat was ridiculous.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

we have a washing machine in our kitchen, but no dryer. growing up with fabric-softened machine-dried fluffy towels, this has been a little tough to get used to. not nearly as bad as a lot of people have it, i know, but i miss fluffy towels.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

++But the thing is, they only want to charge me $2 more than what it would cost for me to do it MYSELF.

where? really only $2 more??
would it be wrong if i brought my laundry from boston to nyc ? a whole new level of slackerdom

kephm, Wednesday, 30 July 2003 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Please god someone make a shirt that says "TASTE THE LUXURY" on it.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 12:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a good washer/dryer set for years but the apartment move scuttled that, alas, as there wasn't any hookup for them. At least the overall laundry setup in the complex is good.
