Lego Robotics?

I have always dreamed of owning a robot. Also, I think Lego is perhaps the greatest invention ever. And the other day I discovered there are actually programmable Lego robots! Does anyone own one of these? Are they fun? What can you make them do?

These have been around for a long time. They are very expensive, but LEGO always was.

Lots of links here to what people have done with them:

It's hard to imagine any way in which they possibly not be fun.

"What can you make them do?"

Unspeakably wrong and depraved things, I expect.

They are lovely, but have always been out of my price range. I must content myself with admiring them from afar.

As far as I know, yes. I still see them (and yearn for them) whenever I am in a toy store.

I am really so envious of all of the lovely FAO pics from the NYFAP thread, I think a visit to NY may be called for this reason alone.

three years pass...
The new Lego Mindstorms NXT is supposed to be cool.
But Radio Shack near me is also selling the VEX Robotics kit for half price on clearance.
Which to get? I think the VEX is made of metal, like an erector set.
