using, admittedly, only the justin video
as my evidence

i see the hooded top really is back !
i wore them to much derision loooong after any
coolness had worn off
(any time after summer 90 basically) and i'm so so pleased
i can wear them again ! not that i'd wear them just cause
he is, but they'll actually be in the shops again won't they ?
that's my point they're properly back ! back !! back !!!

when did people stop wearing them? ive been wearing them for two decades, see them in shops all the time.

kephm, Wednesday, 30 July 2003 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

when did people stop wearing them?

Doubt if they actually stopped per se, was prolly saving them to wear to the grocery store. Wasn't haute couture enough to pass for fashionable in Milan;>

They were back at least as early as the NY FAP with Momus when I wore a brown wool houndstooth coat and gray hoodie underneath, and actually provided—stunningly for a man in my hung-over condition I might add—a runway sashay down the length of the bar to show it off. Atendees will no doubt recall this moment with some mixture of fondness and horror.

great moments in hooded sweatshirt history:

& when did the style of thumb poked throught the hoodie cuff get so popular?
in my world hoodie means something entirely different!

i should stay away from fashion threads maybe.

i like it when on tv you see quartebacks with the hoodie on & they have their hands hidden in the front pocket.

Oh yes! I remember: it wasn't horrible, though I did giggle a bit.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

OK Paul Barman, wtf do you remember exactly what you were wearing? More importantly, why do I: you had on an I *HEART* NYC t-shirt underneath said hoodie. You also were drinking a lot of tea in the bars.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

we call them bunny-hugs here.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I am like the only person in Portland who doesn't own a hoodie.

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 31 July 2003 05:49 (twenty-two years ago)

My big question is: who in LA needs a head covering? Who's ever cold in LA?

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 31 July 2003 06:02 (twenty-two years ago)

What ever happened to those hideaous Deadhead-style rainbow tie dyed hoodies? They seemed to be fashionable for about 5 minutes in 1991 or thereabouts. I think I still have one in a bag for the Salvos in my wardrobe. It has a washing instructions label that says something like "be good to everyone man" on it. Bloody hippies.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 31 July 2003 06:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Time to make a trip to Goodwill, Trayce. That's homeless clothing now.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 31 July 2003 06:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Thats what I was thinkin'.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 31 July 2003 06:17 (twenty-two years ago)

MOre to the point, what crack was I on when I bought it to start with?

Oh Manchester, so much to answer for...

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 31 July 2003 06:18 (twenty-two years ago)

lol

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 31 July 2003 06:21 (twenty-two years ago)

what, from three years ago? or do you not mean the thin girly ones, but real hooded sweatshirts? I'm thinking we've had enough of the permutations and diffusions - the classic Check Your Head era is next up the pike.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 31 July 2003 06:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn! What he's wearing in that video (except for the stupid hat) is exactly like my winter gear for like the last two years! Just make the jacket brown instead of black and it's totally fucking identical wow.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Thursday, 31 July 2003 06:38 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't know if that's a good thing, but I like hooded sweatshirts i wear my hood up in class even cause I am shy.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Thursday, 31 July 2003 06:38 (twenty-two years ago)

when I was in high school I wanted a tie-dyed hoodie so fucking badly it hurt. it was "baggy" and "raverish" and I wanted to be in England dancing at raves so much...

M Matos (M Matos), Thursday, 31 July 2003 06:55 (twenty-two years ago)

HA! I relate, Matos.

I actually had a nice hoodie, but then never got to wear it beacuse, well, I live in Texas.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 31 July 2003 06:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't mean i put the hoods *up* - no never, not once.
i wore em jus like justin does in the video. "...drums".

piscesboy, Thursday, 31 July 2003 12:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I was going to buy the best hoodie today.. it said pimp and I was going to wear it to dexter tomorrow night, now I will have to wear my current favourite hoodie which has a giant transformer.
I heart them. Big time.

Nellie (nellskies), Thursday, 31 July 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I live in New England, so i wear one almost every day.
The hooded sweatshirt & leather jacket is a rather generic style?
I also wear socks. Is this cutting edge?

Now if justin was wearing a baja!

kephm, Thursday, 31 July 2003 13:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Who's ever cold in LA?

The beach bunnies when they emerge from the surf

is anyone listening to radio 4 right now talking abt this? they are going mental! (they made me take my hood down going into the arcade fire gig last week so cctv could see me in case i decided to trash the joint. dude fuck off i'm 26 and i am not gonna start a ruck, it was freezing cold!)

emsk, Saturday, 14 May 2005 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

"am i to be persecuted if i wear a panama hat with a brim?" i heart radio 4.

emsk, Saturday, 14 May 2005 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

"tribes of young men and young women causing mayhem"... jeebus.

emsk, Saturday, 14 May 2005 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

ooh good point someone just said what if it's women in burquas? (fuk kant spel that)

emsk, Saturday, 14 May 2005 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

A woman mentioned Muslim women dress on Question Time as well. But the obvious difference is that casual hooded tops aren't tied to religious doctrine. I'm not sure it's any worse than dress codes for certain pubs and clubs ultimately.

$V£N! (blueski), Saturday, 14 May 2005 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

true. (and pubs/bars that have dress codes - what kind of horrid ppl want to hang out in those places anyway? ugh.) but some seem to be advocating banning hoodies/baseball caps altogether, even walking down the street in the place you live.

bluewater sounds like HELL ON EARTH anyway.

emsk, Saturday, 14 May 2005 12:48 (twenty-one years ago)

The guy who wrote that article should have grown up in NJ.
