Make the dream real.

Of course, they are more impractical than trucker hats but isn't that a played-out trend?

In five years time, after they're everywhere, Larcole will curse the fates that willed this trend to pass and ask for trucker hats back.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

No! Buster Keaton Style must reign!

I want to see Casey Spooner taking pratfalls off of woodframe buildings in Williamsburg!

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Really, who doesn't?

Larcole (Nicole), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought you meant like Captain (of Captain and Tenille) or Mr. Howell-style boater hats.

maaaaahvelous!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I just want the hat box...

JMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMm, Wednesday, 30 July 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I would totally be into this, but I don't know if a boater would go with my 60"-wide raver pants.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Trust me, it would be classic.

Larcole (Nicole), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Clearly, one of ILx's secondary functions is to make me want to dress in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

We heart you, Mike.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I heart me too, Ned.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

It's just ugly enough to work.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

What about these?

SKIP-PER!

They really do exist, you know.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Clearly, one of ILx's secondary functions is to make me want to dress in the most ridiculous manner possible...

See that instead as being a trendsetter: the return of the 1920's.

Dude, you are adorable;>

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

If someone were to wear one of these hats they would earn my eternal esteem and admiration. Not that that's much of an incentive, I know.

Larcole (Nicole), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

No, but seriously, I've wanted one of these things for ages -- ever since I went to my first St. John's College vs. Navy croquet matches, when all the bright young things would wear all sorts of charmingly retro outfits.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I am being totally serious too. I think there's something very charming about them. The talk of the Dick Van Dyke ensemble on the Paul Morley thread revived my boater hat love.

Larcole (Nicole), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I have some sailor pants. They're kind of like bellbottoms.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Mary! I have a hat like that. I just need to clean it off as Tigger has been wearing it.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

By the wat...isn't Buster wearing a porkpie hat, not a boater?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

They remind me of high school musical productions. I still remember the styrofoam ones from Shakey's.

Marcel Post (Marcel Post), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Just think of the carnie guy in The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies with his straw boater, and reflect on the sadness of things.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I had some old roommates that used to wear them about a decade ago. They wore seersucker suits too, and would drink martinis and sneak onto Chicago Park District property late at night to play croquet. It's kind of dud.
