Or is it all such a laugh?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I sometimes wish I had bigger hands, if that's what you mean

Millar (Millar), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Seeing something in the other sex = sexism, no?

Sommermute (Wintermute), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

i understand why people generalise but not sure i respect it

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I hate it when a woman makes a fuss of me for doing something manly. That's all so primitive. It bores me.

thoth (Jake Proudlock), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

If you ask most people things they like in potential partners then they can usually come up with something. I don't think means they are making generalisations.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't know what anyone sees in men frankly

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, I'm not sure if this is a general 'how well can you get into the mindset of a heterosexual man/woman if you're not one?' question, or one about the specifics of what certain people like.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Perhaps understanding it, and playing up to it, is deceiptful.

Judge Mentalist (Judge Mentalist), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm with jim

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I like it when my girlfriend makes a fuss over my being womanly. Like when she says she only trusts me to pick out flowers, that kind of thing.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

She might love it if I worked on the car and watched sports and stuff, but I'll never know.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i couldn't care less what the opposite sex see in women, i care what I see in women.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i couldn't care less what the opposite sex see in men, i care what they see in me.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

you care what men see in you?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Seeing something in the other sex = some sort of infection, no?

Girolamo Savonarola, Wednesday, 30 July 2003 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I have all these ideas and notions as to what the opposite sex looks for in terms of attractiveness for people in my gender, and I compare myself to that and think I fall far short of those expectations or ideals. I think I'm far too ugly for my own good, think I need to lose copious amounts of weight, think my hair is just too unruly, think I look far too "ethnic" to be considered "attractive", etc. All of these shortcomings and, in my eyes, utter genetic failures end up really bumming me out in the end and then I go into a huge mopefest where I feel like just shutting myself away in my house, not bothering to go outside.

Maybe I'd feel differently if I'd had numerous romantic relationships or if I'd had experience with people telling me I'm beautiful or that I don't need to worry about my physical appearance, but I have little experience with relationships, and every time my mother sees me (save for the last month, that is) she launches into a laundry list of things I need to improve about my physical appearance. And no one (IRL) has really come out and even just said I looked "cute".

Really, though. Physical appearance is the one aspect about myself that I am absolutely the most sensitive and pessimistic about.

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh my goodness, I just managed to depress myself.

I think I'll just crawl into a corner somewhere....

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 23:24 (twenty-two years ago)

*hugs* Dee

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

hugs too. i think i saw a photo of you on here...no way yer ugly dee.

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 23:31 (twenty-two years ago)

More like adorable.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Deanna-
Looks don't matter, Really. They only matter to people you wouldn't want to waste your time on.

Orbit (Orbit), Thursday, 31 July 2003 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

dee, you're a cutie.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 31 July 2003 02:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not sure I see it as a gender-specific thing... I mean, I can see what people see in some people, and not what they see in others. And I can see what they see in me. But beyond that...

Layna Andersen (Layna Andersen), Thursday, 31 July 2003 02:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I can see perfectly well what the men I know see in their ladies. What I do not understand, is what some of my lady friends see in their men.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 31 July 2003 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

So we're agreed, then.

ILX women are a weird subset of womankind, mind.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 31 July 2003 22:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Um....

Um....

*can't speak*

whispers:  Wow.

Just Deanna (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 1 August 2003 08:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Hell yeah, I can see what people see in women! Women are yummy.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 1 August 2003 09:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i do not understand.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 1 August 2003 09:09 (twenty-two years ago)

you don't understand what people see in women?

gaz (gaz), Friday, 1 August 2003 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i do not understand the question.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 1 August 2003 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I understand completely what people see in men but I find it near impossible to convey to third parties when asked to do so.

Alex in Rotherham (Alex in Doncaster), Friday, 1 August 2003 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm - intuitively I feel that often women see in men facilitators of some sort, ie. characters that can make life easier and get rid of certain hassles, somehow.. In there you can squeeze in all the old cliches, from the ancient provider thing to the contemporary reassuring manly 'can-do' approach

Fabrice (Fabfunk), Friday, 1 August 2003 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't particularly have an opinion on Men, as a concept. I like most individual men very much indeed though.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 1 August 2003 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

What men see in women = boobs. What women see in men = pockets (so we can have tiny bags and they can carry our stuff).

Emma, Friday, 1 August 2003 09:43 (twenty-two years ago)

men are a concept?!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 1 August 2003 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

For the purposes of this thread they seem to be.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 1 August 2003 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

ILX women are a weird subset of womankind, mind.

Yeah. I was having a discussion with someone about this recently. It's true, they are strange, but in a vague and undefinable way.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 1 August 2003 10:06 (twenty-two years ago)

men are a concept?!

Clearly Julio, you are too young to remember Concept Man.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 1 August 2003 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Completely had it up to here with chicks. Whatever the fuck it is they want, I ain't got it. Even if I do.

dave q, Friday, 1 August 2003 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

What I see in women : pink flesh with reddish capillaries.

Sommermute (Wintermute), Friday, 1 August 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

haha ilx women are weird! at least we don't ask questions like "Do you understand or respect what the opposite sex see in your sex?" on message boards!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 2 August 2003 01:29 (twenty-two years ago)

No, you ask for girlfriends

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Saturday, 2 August 2003 01:48 (twenty-two years ago)

i didn't ask for a girlfriend, i demanded one.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 2 August 2003 01:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i could give a cold shit what anyone else thinks about anything...i hope they all die soon

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Saturday, 2 August 2003 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

nah i'm just kidding, i love you all

unknown or illegal user (doorag), Saturday, 2 August 2003 01:56 (twenty-two years ago)

ILX women are a weird subset of womankind, mind.

Yeah. I was having a discussion with someone about this recently. It's true, they are strange, but in a vague and undefinable way.

Yeah, I wanna know, too.

Mandee, Tuesday, 5 August 2003 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

if men actually knew this, wouldn't joy on earth and happiness prevail, etc? the answer is that there's no answer

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a good thing, as I remember

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

embrace the pee thread Curtis! its time men stopped suffering in silence over pee/urinal issues. and if women think its disgusting, well who cares. its better we free these things up. women are free to talk about how much they masturbate too.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

While we piss all over them.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Bob has killed any affection I once had for mankind.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:07 (twenty-two years ago)

hehe, yeah, but i really think most people think about the things i talk about.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

If by most people you mean "you and Calum" then totally.

LESS CHIT CHAT MORE PROCLAMATIONS OF ASS KICKINGS FOR INFORMATION, THANKS.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I could hire someone from those Soldier of Fortune magazine ads to wipe out the entire ILX Men crew if they refuse to offer an answer to this question.

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

please, calum is clearly below me, id like to think my observations have an undercurrent of wit and intelligence

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:13 (twenty-two years ago)

"Clearly"

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

in all seriousness this brings me to one of the major things i dont get about women, why are they so PC (in general)? and do they all hate non-PC men?

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

We aren't PC, you should hear the shit that comes out of my boyfriend's mouth. It's that we hate people who are patently unfunny.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus, Bob, just shut up.

I could hire someone from those Soldier of Fortune magazine ads to wipe out the entire ILX Men crew if they refuse to offer an answer to this question.

Dude, you could hire the Proclaimers to wipe us out. Have you seen us?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I have heard that all of those mercenaries are elderly and overweight, this claim is not as scary as it might initially sound.

However, they can still get the job done so just answer the question!

Larcole (Nicole), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, bye

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

The Proclaimers'd stab us in the throat with their glasses.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Bob, don't go.

I don't think women are esp. PC but I do get kind of freaked out when women say women-deprecating things or put up with men saying them.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, you could hire the Proclaimers to wipe us out. Have you seen us?

A definite clue for some of you lot to exercise, pronto!

why are they so PC (in general)? and do they all hate non-PC men?

Hell, I don't think I'm PC at all: my vocabulary hides mucho sins. I don't think I hate non-PC men: if you are being non-PC to try and shock me, that's when I lose interest (since your actions wouldn't have a point behind them)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry N., im just actually a bit tired of this board, although some of you are hilarious like yourself N. and you look like my hero Neil young too which is a bonus, it just takes up too much time, and i sense the general attitudes on this board are against the things i say and the way i talk. i'll probably still read it though, from time to time.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

are you the robert shaw?

i am a robert shaw, but im not the guy from jaws. of course my PE/games teacher used this coincidence throughout my school career to mock me. anyway, maybe i'll be back someday, i mean if someone posts a really funny thread and i see it, i may be drawn back in.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

So, anyway, about this weirdness thing, no?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

ok, bye

-- Bob Shaw (bob_001...), August 5th, 2003.

- hey bob, u don't have to leave...people can be rude around here, but don't take it personally

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't see how any claim that ilx women are weird can be a good thing.

i want to know bob shaw's definition of PC.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Weird can definitely be a good thing. Eccentricity (when not bordering on being psycho) is HOTT.

But, uh, I have no idea what they're talking about. There doesn't seem to be a defining group characteristic of ILX wimmen. Except, possibly, a heightened sense of taste in regards to culture, compared to the norm.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

see that is exactly the kind of thing i'm talking about. its supposed to be a compliment, but i do not take it as a compliment to be considered an exception to the rule.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

My statement would be just as fair about ILX men, I should add.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

thats better. < / PC police >

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

ILX women are a 'weird' set of girls the same way ILX men are a weird set of boys. I mean look at us. LOOK THE FUCK AT US. WHAT THE HELL ARE WE DOING ON THIS THREAD. IF YOU ARE POSTING HERE AND YOU THINK YOU ARE NOT OUTSIDE THE BELL CURVE IN SOME WAY YOU HAVE CLEARLY NEVER LOOKED AT THE RELEVANT STATISTICS.

I think that explains everything then.

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha ha - yeah. As I said, you are all freaks.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean FAP photos people, look at this crowd

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Which is why I can't leave this board alone for the life of me.

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

There, there, Millar.

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, judging by the photos from my workplace parties, the ILX shit is nothing, so either every single person I know ever is a freak or we aren't THAT weird.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

every single person I know ever is a freak

Well, yeah.

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Every single person I've ever known? That's ridiculous, do you know how many people I've met?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

known != met

Millar (Millar), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait, are we talking "known" in luna's biblical sense from the other thread? Then yeah, you're totally right.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 5 August 2003 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Well obv it applies equally to men, how couldn't it? Anyway the "WEIRD" thing, Di were you meaning it's not a good thing to fall outside those cruel social normatives and thus be considered an exception/wrong/misguided or something and in an ideal world there'd be no such problem and we'd all be "normal"?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

firstly, if it applies to men too, why did you all say "ilx WOMEN are a weird lot"?

Di were you meaning it's not a good thing to fall outside those cruel social normatives and thus be considered an exception/wrong/misguided or something and in an ideal world there'd be no such problem and we'd all be "normal"?no andrew, i just can't stand it when people say things like "women are this/that/whatever" and then look over at me and say "oh i didn't mean you" as if that means i won't pull them up for making crass generalisations about women and as if i am supposed to be flattered for not being considered to have the usual "womanly flaws", whatever they might be.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 04:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i guess thats two sides of the same coin.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 04:06 (twenty-two years ago)

strange and indefinable=beyond diagnosis.

I think the generalisations point was based on the fact that it's hard to take "what women see in men" as a huge idea when most relationships are fairly different. But if we are having a go at that generalisation then I think it's just companionship, love, etc, kind of a non starter as far as discussion goes.

Physically? Much more interesting area, I think my idea of a good looking guy is only learned from womens ideas, so no I don't really understand the physical attraction. I really don't want to start saying why women might want to spend time with men, without being snarky it's ploughing a lonely furrow around here.
