Me, I liked Veronica better. Yeah, she was a bitch. She was mean. That's why I liked her. Plus I was a kid with straight black hair like Veronica's, and I didn't like the implication that having dark hair automatically made you the bad girl.
Of course, Betty was sweet, good, smart, played sports and knew how to fix cars and so obviously deserved Archie, dolt though he was. But she was so lame. She baked cookies and pies for him, tutored him, knit sweaters, etc. just to get his attention. Then she cried when he stood her up time and again for the "vixen" Veronica. Uh, yeah.
See if the question was, who should Archie choose, obviously Betty. Because he's a dolt. I know it was set up for the reader to root for Betty in all her blonde goodness, but bleh. *I* wanted to be Veronica! She was rich, she wasn't afraid to get angry, and she often did. But she couldn't have been all that snooty if her best friends were all middle class.
What's funny is a girl I grew up with adored Betty and loved all the stories that ended with Betty winning in the end. Consequently she's the bitchiest, most "Veronica" type person I know.

Why not? :-)
Ah then. Ginger or Mary Ann? I choose Mary Ann (this time the "good" one.) Methinks I obviously have an identity thing with the brunettes.
I still like Cheryl Blossom the best, because she was a redhead and hated both Betty and Veronica.
Cheryl was relatively new to the series, no? If not, I wish they made more books on her.

Betty: too much of a doormat. At least, Veronica took chances to go after what she wanted. Even if it was other girls' boyfriends.

And I *heart* "Blondie", most especially when Blondie went and started her catering business. I have over a month's worth of backreading on that comic strip and other comic strips I keep up with, but I still consider that a current fave.

It is funny that Veronica never had any other outrageously wealthy friends. What no one remembers, though, is that in so many strips, Betty was as conniving, selfish, manipulative as Veronica could be - often times in tandem with Veronica - when it came to using her feminine wiles to get someone or something (don't u remember all those girls vs boys strips - if Betty truly was a "good" girl she would have served as a moral, conscience-like voice towards Veronica, but instead she often came up w/ the slickest plans to one-up Archie, Jugs, etc, and relished the subsequet display of female superiority - they won nearly every time!).
Betty was just much more indirect in her bad-girlness than Veronica; it was all disguised under a charade of seemingly selfless behavior, but it was still there nonetheless. Therefore, she is twice as dangerous! Betty was unscrupulous imo, and wanted everything Veronica wanted as well, but just never exhibited it so openly; Veronica was more open and honest and forthright in her diva-dom, and somewhat unfairly criticized for it.
Plus, Betty was always jealous of Veronica's fabulous wardrobe... far from perfect, that dirty blonde!

I seem to remember several plots where Jughead got ahold of some magic pin that he stuck to his hat that made all women fall madly in love with him. He would always get all pissed off because he only wanted to eat. Anyone else remember this?
