nip/tuck

Anyone watching this? It's getting better. The first few episodes were a little too melodramatic, and a little too willing to show you how far they could go at 9pm on F/X. But the issues that the show raises are getting more defined, the characters are getting more interesting, and the "dark side of plastic surgery" angle might just prove to be important.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 02:03 (twenty-two years ago)

The radio commercial for tonight's episode was great.

"Right now, I'm just a fluffer"
"What's a fluffer do?"
"*porn giggle*"

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Has this started already? Where the hell did I put my summer?

Tep (ktepi), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 02:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Tonight was the fourth episode, I think.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 02:40 (twenty-two years ago)

The porn giggle led, characteristically of the show, to a case of VD.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a surprisingly good show for what it could have been - another network could have made this a lot more graphic or sexual. I'm not sure how long it will last though because the character conflicts that made the first episode interesting are being solved at an alarming rate (rift between Sean and Julia, between Sean and his son).

i lovethis show. i don't take it very seriously though. some of the issues they deal with a little too simplistically eg the M-to-F.

omg it's a whole year old and only now on UKTTV. well, what's the uk feeling? c4 had trailed this as hbo-style 'quality' drama, and being being kind of used to the sopranos/west wing 'slow burn' approach, the first ep moved kind of quickly. now i have to readjust to this being more in the OC realm.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 12 August 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

is this set in the 80s? if it isn't it should be

fcussen (Burger), Thursday, 12 August 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

It's set in Miami Beach, which will always be "in the '80s," really. Anyways, yeah -- the show is a hell of a lot of fun. I like that each episode has some MAJOR revelations this season -- not like "Carnivale" or something, where they don't even hit 1 plot point in a whole season.

Softly Weeping at the Oki Dog (Ben Boyer), Thursday, 12 August 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

It's like the 'Charmed' to '6 Feet Under''s Buffy.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 12 August 2004 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm trying to figure out what that means. I must be blinded by my tv-love of Nip/Tuck.
I just like it. It's unrealistic and hilarious - like the Gilmore Girls goes slick, male and Miami. The last few episodes of the first season are great, really, and the second season has been awesomely over the top so far. I love how each surgery is like a late-90s high-contrast colour "lounge/electronic" music video. I think tv is at its best when utterly ridiculous. (Maybe this is why I can't get into the so-called quality shows, like SixFeetUnder and TheSupranos. I am also lacking those cable channels though.)

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 12 August 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't deal with '6 Feet Under' because of the whole 'quality' sheen, the music on the ads. 'Sopranos' is on the edge of this, but has enough brutality to save itself.

holy shit did anyone see last nights ep?!?

booze'n'pills, the wife's comatose hallucinations of alternate lives, famke jannsen dressed like vanity 6 as the white angel of death (sample dialogue: "i'm not your life coach, i'm the angel of death." later: "would you like to kiss me?")

as MES would say, "FLORID-ah"

I only caught the last 15 mins, but still i feel totally spoiled.

g--ff (gcannon), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

ouch! i don't think the analogy really works in the us, though.

g--ff (gcannon), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure yr right, I live in NZ and they seem so similar someone from SFU should sue, obv that isn't the case for you.

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

well it's mainly where they're placed in the tv spectrum; i don't get hbo (and i don't mean that in a "i don't get the this is where i say threads" way, i mean i don't pay for it and it doesn't come to my television), where SFU sits among the other qual-i-tee shows. it's made by and broadcast on f/x, which is fox's cable dumping ground (home of, well, charmed, in reruns) now turned (via the shield) into well, competitor with hbo. so maybe the analogy does work! but in terms of buffy being good and charmed being out and out shit, i had to say something.

the specter of miami vice hangs heaviest over it, tho.

g--ff (gcannon), Wednesday, 8 September 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

That's actually really interesting! I think I get it a bit better now. Charmed, I know a few fans of it, not so much SHIT to them as something similar and Ok to be doing w/while Buffy wasn't on that night, etc.

Just started watching this cos it just came on 'ordinary' TV.

Don't normally watch non-comedies, but this is so funny I've made an exception.

Don't know how long I'll stick with it cos there's only one character who's not a complete bastard, and he's the complete bastard.

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 03:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Michael Stuchbery (Mikey Bidness), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 03:36 (twenty-one years ago)

i know, i was overwhelmed with drama! i love the gory surgery scenes as well. and the nitrous guy was evil personified!

So Good. SO GOOD. So Good.

Nellie (nellskies), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 03:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, I never watched this show properly before but the last ep of season 2 we just got here, omg. Dramatic. Beautiful use of Garfunkel song at the end. I must rewatch this some time.

i just started watching this. everything on this show is set to 10: the sex, the gore, but I wasn't prepared for it to also be emotionally intense and fucked up.

kyle (akmonday), Monday, 11 September 2006 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

but I wasn't prepared for it to also be emotionally intense and fucked up.

just like plastic surgery in real life ey ey ey?!?!?

dmr, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 20:18 (eighteen years ago)

stuffed bear episode was pretty retardo

dmr, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 20:19 (eighteen years ago)

i just started watching it this season... i cant figure out how they manage to get so much crazy shit in without totally desensitizing you

and what, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 20:19 (eighteen years ago)

It's kind of the anti-"House" in that way.

HI DERE, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 20:20 (eighteen years ago)

did you see the one where meth dude got lit on fire in slow motion while they played "turn around bright eyes"

I was a real-life o_0!!!!! on that one

dmr, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 20:21 (eighteen years ago)

it's awful but watchable

dmr, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 20:22 (eighteen years ago)

Last episode I saw was ridiculous, OTT and off the chain in the most irrelevant, lazy and pathetic way.

carne asada, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

total misogynist crap (even if arch about it) but i heart this show so much. its like a soap opera where they actually try to be shocking.

s.clover, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 17:35 (eighteen years ago)

the whole amnesia thing was so very predictably soap opera

carne asada, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 17:40 (eighteen years ago)

My wife and I are still watching. Hating ourselves for it, but whatever; there's enough nudity and bad language that it's almost like a free HBO show once a week. It'd be worse if any of the characters were worth rooting for or being interested in, but they're not.

Best part of the series so far was Brooke Shields getting "Dr. Christian Troy" tattooed on her ass.

Dimension 5ive, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

i haven't seen it in a few years (when the wife was pregnant with the kid that was going to be deformed)...I wasn't prepared for it to be as kind of gutwrenchingly OTT as it was. I should go back and rewatch the whole series now that I'm desensitized to everything
