Spook!

I have a really vague memory of a comedian in the early 80's who wore a prison-type uniform with arrows on and white gloves. He would move along telling a funny story saying... "It's weird..." and then shout "Spook" and jump back. He may have been called Hither Slither or something but I was only about 3 at the time (around 1980/82) Does anyone remember him or what happened to him? Its been driving me mad!!!!

it was slither, and didn't it advertise a soft drink on TV?

'Slither' was the catchphrase of Roy Jay. I also wondered where he went as he was quite popular in Seaside Special type shows in the 80s. I saw him perform in a dodgy bar in Benidorm a few years ago - a shadow of his former self.

The 'Slither' man was a Scots-Irish Norwegian called Roy Jay. Unfortunately, Roy faded from the scene in the mid-80s after being convicted of indecently exposing himself on stage.

Sorry to hear about his fate, but thanks a lot for the name. Are you certain it's true that he was convicted for exposure, or could it possibly be an urban myth, fitting in nicely with the white gloves, uniform etc.?

he is touring the U.S. as we speak, supporting PJ Proby.
