my parents just returned from a holiday in australia and called in to see us on their way home from the airport today. guess what dad bought me duty-free!! yep, one huge bottle of RUM.
why? no idea. i do not drink the stuff and never have, but every time he goes through customs he buys me the same thing and presents it with a big smile " here you go, hope you enjoy spoiling yourself"

you gotta love him for trying, but how he got it into his head that i LIKE rum is beyond me.

im having a drink of it now, hahaha. well hey, why not!

so, anyway, do your folks get it 'all wrong' when buying you gifts?

My parents--by which I mean my mom since she does all the shopping--are pretty good at getting me things I'll like. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who has an aunt who you'd swear just runs through stores, grabs things at random, and also decides who to give what to at random. That, or it's just things that are on super sale. When I was about 18 or so she bought me a Florida Marlins wastebasket with matching Florida Marlins plastic clip-over basketball hoop thingee. I have never lived in Florida. I have never watched a Marlins game. I don't even really like baseball.
My friend has this aunt to. A few years ago he got a Michael Bolton cd.

my uncle and aunt get me the most gruesomely inappropriate gifts. when i graduated from college they bought me "tuesdays with morrie" and some book by bill cosby called "congratulations, you graduated!" also they send me weird $4.99 alarm clocks and headphones etc. that they must have seen in the checkout line, presuming i suppose that i have gone this far in life without an alarm clock or a pair of headphones.
