Perhaps the arrogant bastards here should give it a try!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 12 September 2003 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i got up at noon cos i KNOW i am superior

(part of this is untrue)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Up at 5am everyday. I have friends who get up at 4am to go to work. Two plumbers.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i get up at 6.30 every morning. it doesn't make me feel superior it just makes me feel tired.

angela (angela), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

exactly what Angela said, mind you when I get up early to go fishing I feel absolutely marvellous.

chris (chris), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe it only works if you wake up late the other 99% of your life

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

still trying to adjust to our time tracer.

of course, we sleep and wake up later bcz we have more fun than you.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:08 (twenty-two years ago)

same here, angela. i think this only works like this for me on weekends/days i don't have to get up for anything.

xpost

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

FUCK that. staying in bed till noon, preferably with someone warm, is where it's at, yo.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

When Nick's alarm went off this morning (which is about 30 minutes before I have to get up), I didn't hear it being shut off. I turned off and the bed was empty. It was pitch dark out (it's promising to be a very rainy day). Minutes later, he showed up in the doorway. He had already been online and found a few jobs and applied to one of them.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

staying up all night and being still drunk/out/drinking the next morning has a superior feel to it, especially when people are going to work and you're falling around mocking civilised society with your debauchery. (or they're watching you mock yourself by being a beered up loser)

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

...and then he dropped his towel.....

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

The entire premise of this thread is wrong. It is staying up late that makes you feel superior.

(out - accursed x-post!)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Going to bed when everyone else is getting up feels superior.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

(or just plain stupid!)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

yes there's a real sense of achievement in having been out all night, it's childish but you can't help but think you've cheated something or other and won.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe it only works if you wake up late the other 99% of your life

My research confirms this.

oops (Oops), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan and Matt DC, that doesn't conflict with what I said at all, in your case you're just getting up REALLY (+ 24 hrs) early

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I usually get up at 6:30 but this morning I woke up at 6 to take a piss and then couldn't get back to sleep so I went and applied to jobs. I am so fucking cool.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Staying up late and waking up early -- immeasurably superior. Then you have the joy of an afternoon nap.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I have had this feeling before.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 12 September 2003 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i have found that staying awake all night makes me really productive in the early morning. if i stay up continuosly for more than 2 days, i feel a crazed sense of immortality and superiority. i will crush you sleep-needers!!!!!!!!!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Friday, 12 September 2003 13:06 (twenty-two years ago)

*presents platter*
More coke, luv?

oops (Oops), Friday, 12 September 2003 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to get up
at 5 a.m., scare rabbits
on my solo walk

nothing beats watching
the sun come up while great tunes
play on yr discman

hadn't done that for
several months (too tired)
until this morning:

purple morning sky
robert earl keen's new disc and
the way new days smell

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 12 September 2003 13:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm useless at getting up on time, I usually get out of bed around 8:15am. Lucky that I only live 10 mins from work.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 12 September 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i get up at 7am most days, i don't feel any more superior or inferior than if i got up at 2pm. just more stressed, probably.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 13 September 2003 03:08 (twenty-two years ago)

9 or 10am everyday to go to my job, motherfucker, and I don't feel superior to anyone

M Matos (M Matos), Saturday, 13 September 2003 03:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick why are you getting up at 6.30 if you are UNEMPLOYED. You are very selfish and will cause all of the news services to shut down if there are no bludging stories.
p.s. i got up at 6.30 this morning and went to a job interview and got a job and now i work for the FREEMASONS and he is sooo cute, a true story by me.

Nellie (nellskies), Saturday, 13 September 2003 04:23 (twenty-two years ago)

now that i cant even remember what it feels like to sleep in past 6am, i definately do not feel superior by rising so early everyday,
but it is pretty good to watch the dawn ( even though by 10am it feels like i have already 'done a whole day').

donna (donna), Saturday, 13 September 2003 04:45 (twenty-two years ago)

What Ned said.

My sleeping habits have nothing to do with feeling superior to anyone except my former self. Lately not drinking myself to sleep is making me feel immeasurably superior to myself three weeks ago.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Saturday, 13 September 2003 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

get up around seven
Get outta bed around nine
And I don't worry about nothin' no
Cause worryin's a waste of my... time

Kingfish (Kingfish), Saturday, 13 September 2003 05:12 (twenty-two years ago)

getting enough sleep for once makes me feel highly superior to my usual exhausted self.

Maria (Maria), Saturday, 13 September 2003 05:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I luuuuuuuuv it when I am able to sleep in while everyone else is heading off to work. But this could just be a Washington thing.

Maria: no such thing as "enough sleep."

j.lu (j.lu), Saturday, 13 September 2003 05:22 (twenty-two years ago)

enough sleep = not wanting to cry within two hours of getting up because you're just so tired you can't stand the thought of being awake for an extended period of time.

Maria (Maria), Saturday, 13 September 2003 05:24 (twenty-two years ago)

when you're hella old you need less sleep, throw-in being straight edge and an ex-farmer and i've always felt the superiority of the cock of the morn, i know on tour i was always up before nick and john (of course my own snoring could of awakened me ...blah), 'cept for at donut bitch's house where he beat me to the shower, but then he's a data farmer.

jameslucasakarroland (jameslucasakarroland), Saturday, 13 September 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Sunday, 14 September 2003 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I got up at 6:30 and went (would you believe) to the gym. I would feel superior but my arms hurt.

isadora (isadora), Sunday, 14 September 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

*all* of you people have regular schedules?? even though i intern 5 days a week i still go to bed at different times of night and day all the time, sometimes bypassing sleep altogether, sometimes catching a little nap here and there, sometimes in my car - the only constant is that my need for sleep is inconstant

but maybe this is why i don't even feel like being a part of humanity anymore, forget superiority

eventually my plan is to bel ike those yogis who don't ever sleep but nod off to go into another dimension. i think u need training for this though. you can also learn how to fuck up other peoples' dreams and cool shit, it's very handy stuff

Vic (Vic), Sunday, 14 September 2003 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

On days when I have meetings, I have to get up at 6:30am. Other days, it doesn't really matter, as long as I get to work by noon. I rarely sleep past 10am anymore; I've been weaned off of (RRST) Rock and Roll Standard Time.

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 14 September 2003 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

*all* of you people have regular schedules??

hell no

duane, Sunday, 14 September 2003 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It's 'amusing' to think that at one time I equated staying up all night with a fun night out.

Sean (Sean), Monday, 15 September 2003 02:08 (twenty-two years ago)

if you can wake up that early, then you are clearly superior to me. i have enough trouble getting up by 7:30 AM (to get to work by 9:30 AM).

Tad (llamasfur), Monday, 15 September 2003 02:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I can wake up really early, no problem. It's just the actually going anywhere or doing anything at such an ungodly hour that's the tricky bit.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 15 September 2003 02:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Getting up early actually makes me feel inferior to everyone. When I'm waiting for the bus at 5:30 in the morning, I just look at my building and observe how none of the lights are on, and I think 'All these people have better jobs than I have so they don't have to get up at five in the morning.'

kirsten (kirsten), Monday, 15 September 2003 02:16 (twenty-two years ago)

FUCK getting up early. Nighttime is for living & passion, not for sleeping.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 15 September 2003 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

The happiest I've ever been was the year or so I slept from 5am until whenever I woke up in the afternoon. I feel better or more alive or something after midnight.

I've come to live for the two weekdays I don't have to be ready for work by 7am. No class 'til 11ish, thank God.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 15 September 2003 02:38 (twenty-two years ago)

hm, 9:30, been up for five hours, don't feel superior at all.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 15 September 2003 13:31 (twenty-two years ago)

What about if you just don't go to sleep? I'm feelin' pretty good right now. . .

Texas, Biyatch! (thatgirl), Monday, 15 September 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Everyday I wake up
And I take my medication
And I spend the rest of the day
Waiting for it to wear off

Kingfish (Kingfish), Monday, 15 September 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...

I woke up at 5:30 this morning even though I don't have to leave the house until 9:30 or so. REALLY unusual for me. It feels kind of good - been getting work done and now I'm probably going to be finished with everything by 4pm today.

And falling asleep in front of Emmerdale with drool hanging out your mouth by 7.30

Tom D., Thursday, 10 April 2008 12:20 (eighteen years ago)

I woke up at 6 this morning IN THE FOREST and it was raining and I got freaked out because I knew big rains were on their way and packed up the campsite in 20 minutes and now we are back in civilization. And I feel superiorer than usual.

I've been waking up very early lately (4:30 a.m.) due to insomnia. I can't say my suffering makes me feel superior but I do seem to be more productive when I get to work at 6:30.

Bonita Applebum, Thursday, 10 April 2008 13:16 (eighteen years ago)

i love doing this, but TomD OTFM about the drawback.

i have been waking up at 6 am all week and managing to drink tea and feed the cat and shower and make my lunch and then go to a 1-hr yoga class and then go to work
so yeah yeah i feel superior motherfuckers

rrrobyn, Thursday, 10 April 2008 14:51 (eighteen years ago)

when i was a kid, like maybe 5-10y/o, my parents being all drunk on NYE used to make me so mad that id get up at 6-7am new years day and ride my bike around the neighborhood blowing a whistle as loud as i could so everyone with a hangover would suffer.

sunny successor, Thursday, 10 April 2008 14:53 (eighteen years ago)

bonita, i have the insomnia thing, but it's more that i don't go to sleep at night and then wake up late every freaking day.

i am still 1 hour behind from dst i think.

tehresa, Thursday, 10 April 2008 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

and yes, i feel inferior.

tehresa, Thursday, 10 April 2008 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

getting up really early makes me nauseated.

lauren, Thursday, 10 April 2008 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

staying up late makes me feel edgy and cool, getting up early makes me feel tired, as it's very rarely for any productive purpose.

darraghmac, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:02 (eighteen years ago)

getting up early and hitting the open road, however, is classic

darraghmac, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:02 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, getting up before 5:30 makes me feel like barfing and falling down even if i go to bed early
(also i have been jogging to the yoga class
also i don't actually feel supersuperior and you are not actually all motherfuckers; the tone of the moment i got caught up. i do feel AWESOME tho)

rrrobyn, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:03 (eighteen years ago)

thought yoga was meant to calm a mf down

darraghmac, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

I met this couple in New York who'd get up at 5am every day and cycle really fast round Central Park for an hour or so, then go home, have breakfast and go into work. I've never felt such an inferiority complex in all my life.

Matt DC, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:05 (eighteen years ago)

i am actually really impressed with your am routine, rrrobyn!
i keep telling myself that this summer when i have no class and only have to go to work, i will work in time for all these awesome morning activities before work. my friend used to go to the laundromat before coming into work which seemed insane to me, but in reality is probably do-able.

tehresa, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:10 (eighteen years ago)

but also, like lauren, getting up early makes me nauseated. next week's gonna suck when i have to get up early 2 days in a row to go deal with 2400 kids (and their awful teachers) and try not to fall over in the process.

tehresa, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:11 (eighteen years ago)

staying up late makes me feel edgy and cool, getting up early makes me feel tired

darraghmac otm, qft, etc

I think I've posted this before, but when I got a new job and went from dole-scrounging sleep-until-lunchtime lifestyle to getting up at 7:40, it took me a week to adjust. Then they changed my hours so I was getting up at 6:40, and 9 months later I have still not adjusted to that extra hour. Blggghhh.

a passing spacecadet, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:14 (eighteen years ago)

I get up between 5 and 6 AM on weekdays and it has little or nothing to do w/my feelings of superiority

m coleman, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:16 (eighteen years ago)

i should point out that my job allows me to get up at 9am and still finish before 5.30 most days, which is frankly pulling the p1ss.

darraghmac, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:22 (eighteen years ago)

i'm up 15 minutes before i need to be in work, even if i wake up hours beforehand i can't bring myself to get up and do anything productive.

so instead i just go bed at 3am, this way i'm using myself to full ability. i think.

Ste, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

back in my single days, i would sometimes get up at 5:30am, take some codiene, get breakfast, look at the computer, put in a dvd by 7am and drift off on the couch for the next 5 or so hours. see this way you get up early AND get to sleep in. you can feel superiorly inferior to yourself

sunny successor, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:31 (eighteen years ago)

wake and bake

m coleman, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

waking up early at weekends mind is another story and totally mind blowing in every way

Ste, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, early weekends are the greatest, cos you're not getting up for anybody else.

getting up on sunday at 7 to be at work in tesco at 8 wasn't great, though.

darraghmac, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

i only like this on sundays xp

baaderonixx, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

(except when it's because hangover prevents me from sleeping more than 5-6 hours as is usually the case on most weekends)

baaderonixx, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

i feel superior to everyone whatever time i get up. *shrugs*

banriquit, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

i wld go so crazy so fast, may2005-july2007 rip

rrrobyn, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

the only time i've experienced this is coming back from tour a couple summers ago. i couldn't stay up past 9:30 and i was up at 5:30 every morning. it was kinda awesome...i would go on runs, walk to get coffee, make a decent breakfast, and still get to work super early. looking forward to the same this summer.

Jordan, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

I met this couple in New York who'd get up at 5am every day and cycle really fast round Central Park for an hour or so, then go home, have breakfast and go into work.

the cuttys?

Jordan, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:42 (eighteen years ago)

it would take sooooooo much more than waking up really early to make me feel superior to everyone. at best it would make me feel superior to the me of the previous day. which doesn't take much anyway.

as for that cycling couple mentioned by Matt - while i'm sure they are in many ways delightful people - they can really really really eat a bag of dicks.
