how big is the intersection? or conversely, how mutually exclusive are they?

(defining "independence" as the propensity to think for one's self and to question things, as opposed to just merely support oneself financially)

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

all my ladies blah blah blah throw your hands up at me!

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

girls I didn't know you could get down like that, Charlie how your Angels get down like that?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

"hrow your hands up at me" sounds better when you sing "on the wings of madness" instead

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Q: how can they be independent ladies when they belong to Charlie?

(sorry for the railroading db, but I think it actually illustrates something)

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

and that something is?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

something about intelligence or the absence of such

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to be intelligent, now I just work. Could never spell though.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm a chip-away boy!
(Frank Black song: "I used to have some fun, me and everyone, now I'm just employed...I'm a chip-away boy!")

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Ahem....

anyway...

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 16 September 2003 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually don't understand the question.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I was just thinking about these two issues the other day because i work for a company that's allegedly one of the biggest brain trusts in the world, yet there are some folks here that just follow along with some of the more obvious propaganda thrown at them.. most of the people I talk to here pretty much dismiss it, but the ones who are the higher eschelon on the brain scale seem more apt to, well, "take orders". The logic there just slightly boggles me.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 16:38 (twenty-two years ago)

well, sometimes it's more intelligent to kiss the ass that feeds you

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

or to realize/accept your place in the division of labor?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I tend to think of it simply in terms of keeping a roof over my head.

Matt (Matt), Wednesday, 17 September 2003 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

db, MS is a brain trust? maybe I'm assuming you were working for them and you're not. . .

when I think "brain trusts" I think The Rand Corporation. MS = big business in my mind.

but yeah, whatever, Noodles OTM.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Thursday, 18 September 2003 04:29 (twenty-two years ago)

seventeen years pass...

how big is the intersection? or conversely, how mutually exclusive are they? (defining "independence" as the propensity to think for one's self and to question things, as opposed to just merely support oneself financially)

I think we've all seen enough of the "I do my own research and come to my own conclusions" crowd by now to know that the propensity to think for oneself is based entirely on self-confidence, which seems to have no meaningful correlation with ability.

Sorted.
